I have a great example of this topic going on in my tank right now. My Red Empress was colored up until I put a few larger fish into my tank. For example, a Taiwan Reef and Livingstonii. I also have a very aggressive OB peacock who likes to pick on folks. The Red Empress has colored down to basic silver. Looks like a giant juvenile. I don't have any expectations for him to color up anytime soon. I always enjoy your videos, keep up the good work Jay.

I'm glad you guys had this video because the first time I ever noticed my Jack Dempsey color down and it turned out to be my parrot fish was bullying him so I went into the kitchen and got me some blood worms which is his favorite and gave him a good piece it seem like after a few minutes his color was coming back and there was either two reasons one I knew that he would fight for that and feel better about himself or it was the blood worms that started making him feel better let's say this he's the kind of fish that he'll grab the whole piece and run around with it until he engulfs the whole thing

Jay, you are the man. No lie...I did my first water change on my newly cycled tank about a week or so ago.., well, ever since, the water has been milky looking. I kept the lights off today for the first time (I had been keeping them on for like 8-10 hours prior) and after one day of limited light (outside of indirect window light), the water is back crystal clear, and the fish are brighter than ever. Also, just got my first thing of Krill Pro in the mail today and the fish love it. Thanks for putting me on game!

Believe it or not some PetSmart stores have plane Jane Haps that not showing color , I've bought a silver red empress that didn't color up yet from PetSmart and a few water changes , and food it turning purple, red, turquoise it better to let them color up naturally
Little cichlid places like PetSmart can sometime have diamonds in the ruff

I am from India.. and i can confirm that here most of the local shops have juiced fishes.. even 1 inch fish shows full color. The problem is that even reputed fish stores have juiced fish 😔. There is no other option rather than buying juiced fish. Can someone suggest how to keep juiced fish for longterm.

I usually find when purchasing a new fish (as a little tip) when the seller puts the net in the tank, catches the fish and puts it in a bag that nine times out of ten the fishes colours change within minutes (usually dies down and goes pailer) however with a hormoned fish it retains the same *amazing colour throughout the process and still keeps it even when introduced to your tank and for the next 2 weeks! In my past experience that's a thing to look out for to.

There's a lot of juiced cichlids here in Los Angeles. Many fish stores are Asian imported cichlids. I've had many juiced fish when I was starting out. I'd go to these fish stores and get all excited with these 2 inch peacocks with a full blue face and colored body, only to find out after about 2 or 3 weeks in they're juiced. There might not be many juiced fish across the country but there are in big cities.

Informative video. Logic and experience has taught me that new arrivals will color down merely from change in environment or feelings of uncertainty. For past years my joy comes from watching my tankbred fry grow to mature fish with full color. That's my fun.. Lol did my comment spark ⚡️ something on sec channel? Or is this a coincidence, anyway I've had juiced fish for sure, 2 inch bengas and eureka reds turned silver in weeks after getting them from the store. But the question I ask is where is the scientific evidence of this? I'm talking completely silver not a shred of color at any angle of light which you should see. Idk maybe I should vent them lol anyway great video, much respect, just an interesting subject.
