With writer-director Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix opening in theaters this weekend, I recently sat down with Michael Fassbender & James McAvoy to talk about the film. Since I knew going in that I didn’t want to ask questions that would spoil the movie, I decided to have some fun and ask a number of fan-submitted questions that I got on Twitter and also talk about the Game of Thrones finale which had aired a few nights before. Thankfully, they were both in a great mood and willing to play along. Some of the others things they talked about were each of their favorite performances by the other person, which movie they have watched the most, if they have any sort of pre-shooting ritual, what it was like working with Simon Kinberg, and more. If you’re a fan of Fassbender & McAvoy, I’m confident you’ll enjoy this one.
As most of you know, Dark Phoenix is most likely the last X-Men film with the current cast and adapts the famous "Dark Phoenix Saga" comics arc, with Sophie Turner filling the role of Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix while Jessica Chastain plays a mysterious and otherworldly character. The film also sees Michael Fassbender return as Magneto alongside Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Red Lotus (Andrew Stehlin), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Selene (Kota Eberhardt). Main players Charles Xavier (McAvoy), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Quicksilver (Evan Peters), and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) return.

I love them and appreciate them so much as actors. Both so insanely talented... and have great chemistry!! Definitely both Fassbender and McAvoy are top of the list of my favorite actors ever!
Pretty sure Shameless if a long running British comedy. I watched 10-12 episodes, James was only there first season. Free on Prime, at least it was last summer.
I have a thing about Fassbender, just got into him. McAvoy totally awesome. I watched his SNL appearance, he wore a kilt, was funny, Think it was on youtube TV at that time (they are going to hell now, charging for lots of movies I am dying to see including 2 X-man movies!!!!!
The best thing about the X men movies was the professor Xaviers and the Magnetos. All 4 of them!!!
I just love how Michael was in a movie called Shame and James was in a movie called Shameless....But I have to say, I really hopethat if the MCU decides to integrate Xmen into the upcoming movies, that James and Michael will reprise their roles. I became a fan of them both as a result of their portrayals of Prof. X and Magneto. They made the movies for me.
Shameless was a TV show, not a movie.
The only thing that'll really, genuinely upset me about Disney rebooting X-Men into the MCU is that these two incredibly talented guys won't retain their roles.
There’s plenty of other talented actors who’s every bit good if not better than those two. They can be recast.

alexh4319 don’t really think they were saying that there aren’t good actors out there that can’t play the role as good as them. I think they were trying to say that now that we have associated these characters with these two it’s gonna be hard to picture anyone else playing Charles and Erik.
Always interesting to hear talented actors who can mimic accents so well, speak in their natural voices

I’m happy for their friendship and chemistry but also sad they were contractually obligated to make this movie.
They weren't contractually obligated. They were only signed on, as with Jennifer Lawrence, for 3 films only: First Class, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse. They came back BECAUSE Jennifer Lawrence convinced the studio to let Simon Kingberg direct..which was a mistake. A BIG mistake.

The characters behave way off their characteristics and the story line lacks novelty. It's adorable how these two actors try to make it sound good by adding meaning to the movie.
Only good thing is that it's very character driven and lack of the costume but could have done a better job.

Brilliant film split and 12 years a slave is hard to watch but again powerful acting 😊
The first movie I ever saw Michael in was 12 years a Slave and I didn't even realize it till months later when I heard he played in the film. I did a double take when I saw that. His acting is insane! (In a good way)
My favorite scene of x men is wolverine and magneto on the airplane!! Wolverine tells magneto hes a survivor and how hes spent years trying to take him down ! Magneto says , HOW'S THAT WORKIN FOR YA!😄 , THEN WOLVERINE IS PISSED SO HE SAYS YA WANNA PICK UP ALL THAT SHIT YOU MADE A MESS OF??"😄

Yeah, Darkphoenix is Jean Grey movie so, the directer wants to focus on her character, that’s what I think is the best about this movie. However, Xmen working together is great too.
