There is a video of Jim Wangers telling the reason that production was cancelled and only 1 year. Something to do with molding the rear spoiler and they were going to need a new mold and GM said no. I guess the introduction of the 1978 greatly reduced in size mid-size cars.

I still own the '73 Firebird Formula that I bought new. It is red with black interior. 455 ( not a SD ) 4 speed PS PB radio. That's it. I ordered it that way. I should have spent the extra $ for the SD as it is much more valuable. I just barely had enough $ to buy the one I did as I was only 21.

Back in high school 1979, I worked after school at the local hospital, the receptionist lady had one of these, but it had a factory tach on the hood and my memory remembers she had bought it new. I thought she was the coolest old lady, but back then she was probably only in her late thirties.

Love the Trans Am. I've never seen one with the ivory interior, any TA I've seen in grey has always had a burgundy interior, or black. The Formula on the top of the lift is a gorgeous car too, wish you'd showed more of that one. Terrific car collection and Mark is a very gracious host.

If the sale's of the LeMans were so bad, why did they continue making it in 78,79,80,81?? Those were very good looking cars as well. I found one a 78 with a chevy 350 in it. That was a fun car. Didnt they go more luxury in 78 for the LeMans?. I think if I am not mistaken that the Lemans took on the Bonneville name in the early 80s.v

The fuel door was correct for 1981. The 1980 was same as 1979. I know this because I had a 1980 pace car Trans Am and I had to order the fuel door from parts. I had ordered a 1981 Turbo Trans Am and the turbo engine was put on hold and after 2 months of waiting (eternity for a 18 year old that had a new trans am on order) I saw a pace car on a different dealership lot and my dealership tracked down a pace car about 40 miles away. All pace cars had the turbo engine. And a lot of neat details that were unique to pace cars and 10th anniversary models from 1979.

I bought one brand new as a teenager with no money but a good job, the sales guy said did you see those guys around the car and took me to his office. he said do you have 20 dollars and its about all i had on me. $20.00 was my deposit for my brand new Can Am, my sister loaned me the 400 dollars for the down payment at our credit union. That was a time in life that can't be repeated. I had one with the red buckets and console, floor shifter. Found it the night before in the drizzling rain here in Dallas. never thought by the time i got up and got my shower to think it would still be on the lot. It was meant to be, After i sold it in 1982 many years later I looked for years for the car after owning it till 1982 but never found it even on the Can Am face book web site. they said it's not on their Can Am register of cars. I got new car fever for the new 1982 Z28. now those Z's were a POS, they never could get the rear end to stop making noises in the 1982 and up Z28's. thanks for the memories.

@@CarsShopsAndCollections Thank you, there are some pretty good collectors on the Facebook site that looked for me but hopefully it didn't get totaled over the years. A young kid bought it OR should i say his mom bought it for him back in 1982. Funny thing is i was going to purchase a new Trans Am, black of course because it was the same year 1977 that Burt drove his all over the country in Smokey and the Bandit, but 6 months before the Can Am came out a buddy of mine brought a magazine over to me to show me the test drive on the Can Am, every pic had white interiors and i was SO shocked to find mine that rainy night at R.O. Evan Pontiac in Dallas with the RED interior. SO we knew what we were looking at and it being special before i bought mine. COOL time in life for sure!!!

Gas door on the Trans Am is from an 81 Trans Am and if you remove the original engine out of the Trans Am, that car will be worth nothing. Go get a Trans Am that already has a 400 please. The 4.9 is a 301, the 5.0 would be a 305 which came with a 4 spd and very rare. I have an 81 Turbo Trans Am and I also have a Can Am on my channel. Great job on this video..
