Bible Prophecy # 3: Has the Most Foundational Prophecy of the Bible Failed?

- In this third episode of my new series I begin exploring the most important text in the Hebrew Bible--The book of Daniel with its five different prophetic visions. Daniel is also the main inspiration for the book of Revelation in the N.T. It has generated more schemes and interpretations through the centuries than any other single text.

Thank YOU, Dr. Tabor! Making it much easier for me to understand the visions in the book of Daniel!
I just watched it for the second time. It's amazing how much can be missed the first time around. I recommend everyone view it twice:-) 🧚♀
absolutely loved it. one of the best videos on Daniel that everyone is confused about
Love your teachings- so much food for thought. You've opened my mind to answers to questions I've had many, many years.
Im listening, studying, making my way with YaH's guidance through your studies. Thank you for sharing.
You've also given me new questions.
I appreciate your experience, your knowledge and your wisdom.
What is the picture behind you on the wall, Please, Dr Tabor? Courtesy of Mrs Tabor? 😊
Shabbat Shalom to both of you. 🕎⛰️🕊️
One of the best videos! I have learned so much from you over the years. Thank you so much ❤
This is how I learned it. That said, I wonder if it’s correct, then I view these videos and see no Hope in the interpretations. It’s like my discussions with my atheist brother. Perhaps I’m blind or misled, but a life without faith is a sad one.
My friend, we should never built our faith on a prophecy (of what the future may hold). We are to build our faith on the knowledge of God- who He is and what does He want us to do. To have faith is not about what goodies you can get from God- that's manipulation, not faith. To have faith is an active word in Hebrew and it really means "to act our faith out". We are to serve the LORD, first and foremost- and serve Him because we understand how great and how beautiful our God is! To keep His Law (in its entirety). To keep His feasts and ordinances and statutes. That is love: when you give and you do not expect anything in return. Love God with all your heart and all your soul and all your might- without any expectations- and you will live a good life. I wish you a peaceful time (full of introspection) of the upcoming feasts: the Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah, The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) and the Feast of the Tabernacles.
Daniel's other numbers fit Antiochus. From Shavuot 167 BCE to Hanukkah 164 BCE is exactly 1290 days.
A day is a year

Absolutely loving this series so far
So sorry to hear about the tragedy at UNC Chapel Hill Dr. Tabor💜Thank you for another wonderful video 💜
I’m enjoying following your series, but just a minor point of fact: the woodcut on the first slide isn’t by William Blake but by Hans Holbein from his Icones veteris testamenti (Images of the Old Testament) published in the 1520s and in a number of later editions.
Any artist or Art Historian can see obviously it is Holbein , not Blake !!!! Totally different time periods and Style . Holbein was a tremendous Artist , Blake is very crude and Mannered.
This might be my favorite lecture of all, Dr. Tabor. I love Bible prophecy and how it correlates to our day. The interpretations of Daniel and the Book of Revelation. Clarence Larkin had an extensive take on it in his book Dispensational Truth, and JWs have an interesting take on it too among others. I'd love for you to dissect some of these modern day interpretations:-) I find this series absolutely fascinating:-) 🧚♀
Thanks Dr. Tabor!
"I love Bible prophecy and how it correlates to our day." Didn't you hear Dr Tabor's view? He completely disagrees that it DOES have any correlation to our day or that it was even genuinely pronounced by a guy called Daniel in the 6th century BCE. Now you can appreciate his frank views all the same, but the way you commented makes it seem as though he shares at least some of your futurist views.
Of course I heard his views. I listened to every word most carefully. I most definitely picked up on him saying that. It doesn't mean it's my current perspective or hope. In saying that, I'm very open-minded and it's always subject to change if indisputable facts are laid out before me. He's just beginning this series. If he can take down some of the modern day philosophies on this subject and show why they are wrong then I will reconsider my current position. Of the two I mentioned, I feel that Clarence Larkin's book although extremely impressive in terms of illustration and in depth explanation is more than likely flawed in some way. I would really like Dr. Tabor to delve into the JW perspective because it seems rather intriguing. They say the broken horn mentioned in the Book of Daniel represents the League of Nations that was only in existence for a short time and then it evolved into the United Nations which they imply fits Bible prophecy regarding the last days. I'd love to see Dr. Tabor dissect this perspective and see if there is any validity to it. I don't belong to a religious organization because I don't believe one needs a middleman (meaning a church) to be saved by God, but I especially find End Times prophecy especially intriguing because it could affect us in our day, and I don't know about you, but I would actually welcome an intervention by God if it would mean we never had to face death. The Bible indicates there will be some survivors who won't see death. Why not us? lol🧚♀@@nonomnismoriar9051
Wow this was exceptional! Thanks!
Maybe someone can clarify this for me: Where in the prophecy does it say that the length of the legs represents a specific period of time? The prophecy uses metals to describe the empires, not physical dimensions to represent time. I see no indication that length or width has anything to do with a specific period of time. But if someone does-whether Dr. James Tabor or anyone else-please show it to me. If the legs were meant to represent 2,000 years, shouldn’t the prophecy state that explicitly? Thank you.
Your presentations merit a screen shot behind to simulate a Study with filled Bookcases - similar to that of Jonathan Turley, PHD. also on You Tube.
The description of Daniel's dream vision interpretation of the statue of gold, silver, bronze, and iron sounds like the description of the four ages of the Kali Yuga the last age being the Iron age which we are currently in and its the most corrupt and evil that will eventually crumble and we go back again to the golden age.
Love these close readings!
Playing in the background while I arrange music for my Jazz Band!?!?!
Thank you for all your work.
Maybe I missed it- but nothing in this video made the point as to why the forth kingdoms “must be” the Seleucid Kingdom or why the little horn “must” refer to Antiochus IV.
The prophecy focuses of World Empires in the Then known world starting with Babylon.
The Seleucid’s were a continuation of Greek Rule not a new Kingdom or Beast.
Rather dismissive of other interpretations and tied to the Antiochus view.
Can’t wait for more. Was never excited about prophecy until this series.

Hello James Tabor and thanks a lot for your efforts.
------
I bet the good old patriarchal and literate Jewish priests, and later secular power holders - didn´t mind authoritatively and mentally to put all direct spiritual personal experiences of “god and cosmos” on the last pages in the canonized and published scriptures.
All in purpose to hold the powers for themselves.
Thank you Dr. Tabor. The video is loaded with interesting information and analysis. I would like to add that when examining ancient biblical prophec,, it occurs to me that they apply to more than one time and event. And more importantly, that the Prophet intended it as such. Just a thought.
Correct, the more vague, the more people find fulfillment. Very smart.
@@cmk1964 Except this one is not vague at all. Credit where credit's due, the forger of Daniel did put their money where his mouth was. The only problem was that it completely failed, although it presumably did serve its purpose in the rebellion against Antiochus. But afterwards, since it became such a dear piece of literature, Jews (and then Christians) have reintepreted this pro-Maccabean/Hasmonean approved propaganda ever since and tried to fit it with whatever political reality of their times, focusing on the same vague themes of good vs bad guys while completely ignoring the plain context it refered to, and which was made obsolete and demonstrably false by the 160's BCE. In fact, Antiochus Epiphanes didn't even die the way he was supposed to die.
Great video. Thank you for your time.
If the stone is from God, has it already been thrown? Could it of started at the head of gold- and how near is it now to the feet of clay and iron?🔚
I'm sure james will absolutely adore the new Chinese bible and the soon to come Yuval Noah Harari AI bible too! Perhaps they will be much more straight forward, for him, no more difficult interpretations anymore......
Do not add or subtract to this book applies to the book of revelation. I believe that that phrase also exists in the book of Deuteronomy as well. Deuteronomy however is a separate book just as Revelations is.
The thing that most people don't realize about the Book of Revelations is it is a book of signs and symbols about your personal struggles to become at one with god, it is not talking about physical and great things that occur amongst masses of people.
That is an interesting perspective. I'm going to see if that perspective opens any new understanding. Thank you for posting your thoughts. 🙋
why would you put Antiochus as the fourth in Daniel 2? DAniel 7 and 2 are both written in Aramaic afterall!
As historian Mary Beard has said, "the real heir of the Roman Empire was Christendom...an empire without limit'. Which fits with Daniel.
How does it fit with Daniel?
Thanks for Posting !!
Issue with Rome is they never conquered Persia
As much as we try to fix our view on Bible prophesies, I perceive the Revealer of the prophecies knows how and when He fulfills them perfectly in History.
The only question is, Is He Able to Make them Happened for His Glory?
Peace unto All.
how and when He fulfills them perfectly in History.
No, he doesn't, which is why bullshit arbitrary apologetics tracts like the forged 2Peter have to be created. In this case of Daniel the Kingdom of God should have come in the 160's BCE or soon thererafter. Cognitive dissonance just keeps making excuses every generation, when the time to save them has already passed by thousands of years.
What makes sense to me: Brother Daniel is writing around 164-165, writing as if he's writing prophecy, but doesn't have a clue about what will happen next. So his answer is "we're going to win big because we're so much better (I.e. righteous) than all these others who don't have the right god." And if it doesn't work, there's always later. Later solves a lot of problems. Still works.
God is outside of time and His decrees not subject to human perceptions. The "good guys" win, but not on our time schedule.
@@thumbstruck So what's the point of prophecy if it is always reinterpreted from its original meaning and shifted to the eternal "later"?
@@davida.taylor8444 The "good guys" win. The Creator's perspective does not rely on human time perception, but the outcome will be realized, if not in our lifetime, then on another plane.
@@thumbstruck If the prophecy doesn't communicate anything other than that "the good guys win," why do these prophecies contain all these details? What's the point of the details if the details mean different things at different times and don't matter if theyre fulfilled in their original intention and in the end, really can't mean or point to anything specific because they're always changing and being reinterpreted? Why not just rather say these prophecies proved to be wrong and move on?
@@davida.taylor8444 looks like you've moved on.
But th end of the age was in year 70??
Jehovah's Witnesses Interpret the vision of the Image like the person who made the diagram at the 31:00 timestamp. They explain Rome as the legs of Iron and that because the "Anglo-American world power" is a civilizational descendant of Rome that they are Represented by the feet of Iron and Clay.
Hahahahaha
Why is the Ottoman Empire never mentioned.? It lasted longer than the Roman Empire, and stretched wider than the Roman Empire.
But the only Bible teacher that mentions this fact is Joel Richardson
I don't understand why some people are so offended by the concept that prophecy doesn't have to be fulfilled. If we didn't have free will and the power to change our outcomes, our existence would be pointless. There would be no reason for God to say, "Stop sinning and return to me."
Good stuff. Thanks!
Thank you so so much Professor!
The answer is in Rev.17
As I’m listening to this, it very much describes Christianity. I am of Sephardic Jewish ancestry, my people practiced as crypto Jews after being forced out of Spain during the Inquisition, and now have completely lost their Jewish identity and worship in the Catholic Church. I also come from Pima Indian ancestry, and let us not forget, indigenous children were forced into schools run by the Catholic Church, and forced to forget their religion. There is evidence the Hohokam Indians brought the Name of God to this land in 300 BC, they too have disappeared. It appears to me, the Hebrew identity and faith has been entirely erased by the 4th kingdom (Christianity, created by Paul) that continues to this day. My humble opinion…
Another possible understanding of Daniel 2 if the Roman Empire as the legs with East/West split.
The feet of iron and clay is a fifth kingdom which is Christianity that 'conquered' the Roman Empire between 325 and 390 ... the (fragments of) iron represent the clergy (the bishops) and the clay is the laity ... clay has always represented God's people.
Christianity has ruled the earth from 390 to recent times but Christianity is crashing before our eyes.
The stone strikes the fifth kingdom.
It is unlikely but I have heard it said the Romans were the kingdom of God in the sense they reigned under the approval of God as a means to punish the Jews as a penalty for not obeying God.
My exposure to Bible Prophecy was through being in Church Universal and Triumphant, led by Elizabeth Clare Prophet. I suppose her primary emphasis was on Revelation (yoked to astrology and politics), but she used Daniel and other Prophets, too. Fortunately her prophetic apocalypticism didn't end up in a violent encounter like Waco (though the Feds were watching it closely and nervously because they weren't sure where things were going due to the group's secrecy and misleading public relations.).
I think this is all so very interesting. I've observed that virtually everything we get out of the world has been established such that we would reject the scriptures, beginning with heliocentrism, which is an absurd fairy tale that doesn't match up with reality or common sense in any way, shape or form. I also see evidence of at least two major cataclysms since the New Testament was written that are as obvious as the day is long but are entirely missing from the Scaligerian chronology that has been crammed down our throats all the days of our lives. We have burnt, melted buildings and landscapes all across the face of this place that experienced a super heated event that is beyond our ability to comprehend that matches up with the great and terrible day of the Lord. We also have another world wide event that buried all the old world buildings in anywhere from 12 to 30+ feet of mud, all over the world which I believe was associated to Satan being released at the end of the thousand year reign. We have images of massive empty cities from one end of the world to the other from just a couple hundred years ago. We have massive structures that any idiot can see we absolutely did not build with wood carts, donkeys, hemp rope and pulleys everywhere and also we have found evidence showing that a thousand years was literally manufactured and added into our timeline since the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed by changing the i and j from the Year of the Lord dating system to a 1.
I think Jesus did come back for the people he was speaking to in the flesh, exactly as he promised he would over and over and over again throughout the New Testament. One thing is for sure, if he didn't return according to his word, then he was never the son of God and there is no reason we should still be waiting on his to return a couple thousand years after he promised that he would. I think we are living between the 7th and 10th verses of the 20th chapter of Revelation today, after the thousand year reign had ended, when Satan was loosed from his chains and set out to deceive the nations of the world one final time just prior to judgement. I think the second coming and millennial reign have been scrubbed from our history by the same mystery school magicians who are lying to us about everything of any importance under the sun, including the sun itself. I think we are those who lived not Again until the thousand years were finished as stated in Rev. 20:5. I think the camp of the Saints is in the middle of the map below the throne of Yah.
Wonderful
DId I miss the part where you explain you are arguing the dating of Daniel being just before Antiochus and not in the time specified within the text?
Eccl would call Dan vanities so Imaginations have states of flesh minds dreams will dead words till you exsperince and reminded no books can record Imaginations a fact if your I AM sprouts from repeated flesh and bloods impossible limits.
Ecclesiastes 3:15: “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.” The “natural man” cannot grasp that, for to him reality is based only on the evidence of the senses. The man of reason could justify the verse’s end, saying if it has any meaning then the writer must mean recurrence. The sun comes every day and the moon completes its cycle and the seasons come and go. If we took a picture of the universe today, the scientists can compute how long it will take to return to this point in the picture. So the intellectual man could justify the verse; but that is not what is meant, for it is addressed not to the man of reason or the man of sense, but to the man of Imagination. What is it all about? “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been, and God seeks what has been driven away.”
🙏🧡💚👍that always fall!.... Daniel is the one I need to know the exact origin. Yesterday I listened about the Assyrian Ur, which is related to Sun, and astronomy, from where comes Abram and his tribe, Harran where he chosen for one of his Son, his wife, on his way to the promise land. Ancients were knowing Earth micronova and megaflares are cycles, so what was known by past will return, as the cycle is accomplished. This region of the Earth is where memory of the previous events were taken in memory and counted, this the region of the flood, known by Niniveh library.
The Rabbis didn't want Daniel in the Tanach but it was so popular with the people they had to include it, so they chose the shortest version of Daniel.

10 Horns:
Daniels vision saw 4 kingdoms, total: Babylon, Medes & Persians, Greeks, and finally Rome. Daniel chapter 2 verse 44 makes it crystal clear that Rome would be in power when the Kingdom of God would be established. Daniel chapter 7 is the exact same prophecy, verse 14 makes it crystal clear that the Kingdom would be established when Rome was in power. Rome had 10 Caesars (10 horns) Julius, Augustus, Tiberias, Gaius, Claudius, Nero, Galba, Otho, Vitellius, and lastly Vespasian.
Daniels time frame of the great tribulation is three and a half years (Daniel 12:7) and is identical to Revelation, which repeats this time frame no less than 3 times, Revelation 11:2,12:6,13:5 (written circa 65 A.D. fulfilled 66 - 70 A.D.) per Daniel 9:24-27. Daniel chapter 8 elaborates on these 4 kingdoms.
3 Horns:
The 3 horns were of the 10, which were all part of Rome, the 4th beast/empire. The 3 horns that fell were Galba (12/3/68 A.D. - 1/15/69) Otho (1/15/69 - 4/16/69) Vitellius (4/16/69 - 12/22/69) these men were all assassinated, fell. Vespasian was the 10th horn and finished the siege of Jerusalem, as prophesied by the law & prophets. Christ said the temple would be destroyed. The disciples asked when? The answer was in their lifetime. In Revelation 17, the woman is apostate Jerusalem/priesthood and the beast she sits on is Rome.
The little horn in Daniel 7:8 is the same horn in 7:11 is the same horn in 7:20 is the same horn in 7:25. It is called a little horn, because it could not wield the power of Rome. It was politically subservient to Rome. This horn is apostate Jerusalem. Elohim warned his children over and over through the prophets, all of them, leave your idols, return to me. The song of Moses (Deuteronomy 32 is a song of judgment, sung in Revelation 15 for the "latter days"). The "last/latter days" is defined as the last days of the Mt. Sinai/ Mosaic covenant. Hebrews 8:13 tells the reader that the old covenant was ready to vanish away, it did. Christ said the temple would be destroyed and they would see it, the "last day" of the last days that Peter said he was living in, Acts 2. this message is sent in love, your friend
Garbage. It's all about the Macedonian empire and the kingdoms resulting from its split. Daniel ch.11 explicitly mentions Persia and Greece, nothing mentioned about Rome, nor anything mentioned about the Maccabees/Hasmoneans in the middle!! There are no serious academics that disputes this. Furthermore, the kingdom of God would be as real a kingdom as any of the other evil powers. It was supposed to establish universal judgement and God's perfect rule on earth, and not be a mere metaphorical reinterpretation as "the church".
Some commentators suggest that the last 2 chapters were commentary on the earliers chapters. Humans have trouble adjusting their view to a promise that involves other dimensions.
Daniel was written after the Maccabean revolt because the comet omen (as in Enuma Anu Enlil) seemed to be in favor of the Maccabees. The 66 ce and Bar Kochba (son of star) revolts were failures, and so, the rabbis writing the Talmud wrote a proscription against following the "star" that returns every "70" years. Daniel was the product of having witnessed this sign and the subsequent victory of the Maccabees.
The one like a son of man, kbar enosh, was almost certainly derived from 𒌉𒍑, IBILA, which mean's "heir" but it is composed of the sign for "son" and the sign for "man." The sign for man is both nita and ŋeš. The sign ŋeš is the source of the name Enosh. The one "like" the son of man, seen in the sky, is probably related to the similarity between ibila and ibilu, which was a sort of celestial donkey that pulled the astral vehicles of the deities. This is why the Hebrews were accused of keeping a gilded donkey's head.
No sources though 😬

Yes, but not for the reasons you mentioned. After Antiochus 4 was ejected from Israel, Israel become an independent, sovereign nation and kingdom. The relevant question at and shortly after that time is obvious: is this the kingdom we have been waiting for? Is this the kingdom of God? Daniel answers that question in the negative: "it [the time of the end] it still awaits the appointed time" (Dan. 11:35). The 70 sevens makes it clear that the Maccabees and their kingdom is not the kingdom of God. Rather, after the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple and Israel's political institutions, there is an extremely long period which is "a troubled time" of 62 sevens (Dan. 9:25). Doing the maths puts the end of the 62 sevens generations after the Maccabees. This is what we see in Dan. 11. Israel's position after Antiochus 4 is ejected is:
"the [Jewish] people who know their God shall stand firm and take action [evicting Antiochus 4]. And the wise among the people shall make many understand, though for some days they shall stumble by sword and flame, by captivity and plunder. When they stumble, they shall receive a little help. And many shall join themselves to them with flattery, and some of the wise shall stumble, so that they may be refined, purified, and made white, until the time of the end, for it still awaits the appointed time."
In other words, the Maccabees are not the heroes. Nothing good is said about them in the entire book. Their works in repelling Antiochus 4 are basically glossed over: after they do their works, the wise do no dominate, rather, they are dominated by their fellow Jews, the foolish, until the time of the end. At the time of the end, these foolish Jews (or some other foolish Jews) rise up in rebellion, and this triggers the end of the 62 sevens, when "an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing" (Dan. 9:26). The anointed one is the successor of the original anointed one received when Israel's political system was rebuilt at the end of the seven sevens (Dan. 9:25). That anointed one cannot live and rule for 62 sevens, because that is well beyond the time-span of an individual governor of Second Temple Israel. The anointed ones are a series of governors or governments of Second Temple Israel in this context. At the time of the end comes not the King of the North, not the King of the South, but instead "the king shall do as he wills. He shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak astonishing things against the God of gods" (Dan. 11:36). This is a king of Israel, he does not come from North or South, he comes from Israel herself. This is the little horn that arises from the Fourth Beast, Second Temple Israel, and is not to be confused with the little horn that previously arose from the Third Beast, the Greek, Antiochus 4, as explained in Dan. 8. This Greek little horn defiles the Second Temple, and sets up the Abomination of Desolation and stops the sacrifices for 2300 mornings and evenings. But desolation is averted: "For 2,300 evenings and mornings. Then the sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful state." (Dan. 8:14). The little horn that arises from the Fourth Beast comes from Israel, as the Fourth Beast is Second Temple Israel. From her comes the rebellion of Dan. 12:2 which triggers the end of the 62 sevens, and ushers in the 70th seven, the time of the end. The rebellion and the rebel government also set up an Abomination of Desolation, this time, however "Its end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war. Desolations are decreed" (Dan. 9:26). "it would be for a time, times, and half a time, and that when the shattering of the power of the holy people comes to an end all these things would be finished" (Dan. 12:7).
It follows that the Maccabee kingdom was not the Kingdom of God, according to Daniel in its original context and sense and message. Rather, the point of the book is that Second Temple Israel would continue for generations after that and it would become the Fourth Beast, the divided kingdom, which would be destroyed after being taken over by a rebel government, which would set up another Abomination of Desolation, cease the sacrifices, and usher in the end, when the power of the holy people (Second Temple Israel) would be completely shattered, and when the Second Temple itself would be destroyed along with Second Temple Israel and the rebel government. This is exactly what the New Testament writers affirm and how they apply the book: it is Israel of their generation that would be destroyed when the Kingdom of God came in power.
USA and rome have the same eagle, german mustache guy claimed to be the 3rd reich of the holy roman empire
Yup. It's so ridiculously obvious: 1st Babylon, 2nd Medes (the Persians were in NO WAY "lesser" than the Babylonians, either from a secular or a Jewish religious point of view, and the author somewhat mistakenly thought the Medes conquered Babylon, only partly true as they were already under Persian sovereignty), 3rd Persians and 4th Greeks (splitting into the degenerate Greek feuding kingdoms that will eventually try to merge by marriage of dynasties and fail). Daniel ch.11 explicitly says that four more Persian kings will come, then Alexander will come, then his empire is broken up, fights over itself, and eventually the little horn, Antiochus IV, the heir of the bigger slice of the Greek empire, after also oppressing the faithful Jews for a while, will be annihilated and the Kingdom of God will follow this destruction. A failed prophecy within a forged book!! Any reinterpretation of this would only prove that, even * IF * that reinterpretation turned out to be the true one from the start, that God is a deceiver and worthy of contempt, since he mapped everything to "superficially" (supposedly) coincide with what we know from independent history of the Near East and Mediterranean from the 500s to the 100s BCE, and not events from the 100's, 1000's or 2000's AD in a completely arbitrary way that any fool can and has tried to fit their current political reality for the past 2000+ years
It’s funny how you deliberately choose to ignore certain text while also saying let the scriptures speak for themselves.

How are you band from TikTok?
I know where you were going with this in terms of building a framework, for discussing visions and prophecy based upon the given framework.
But the problem is that the given framework in Daniel is riddled with holes and fractures. You cannot even read through Daniel 1:1 and run into problems.
"Daniel (Dn'il, or Danel) is also the name of a figure in the Aqhat legend from Ugarit. (Ugarit was a Canaanite city destroyed around 1200 BCE - the tablet containing the story is dated c. 1360 BCE.) This legendary Daniel is known for his righteousness and wisdom and a follower of the god El (hence his name), who made the god’s will known through dreams and visions."
The first problem is this, Jerusalem had terrible leadership under the Yosiah and his sons. Yosiah runs out to block Egypt on their advance to defend The last assyrian king, who at that point was a king in name only. And its not clear why because as a vassal under the Assyrians Jerusalem did not fair as badly as the 11 kings that tried to block assyria in the 9th century. Yosiah was killed, and he himself was not that old and his oldest son was appointed. Having been utterly humiliated by the Chaldeans, the Egyptians come back, steal the first son of Yosiah and appoint the 'unfit to serve son' Jehoichim which among other things. He then agrees to pay tribute then flips loyalty back to Egypt.
Long story short after he flip flops a couple of times Babylon puts an end to him and Jerusalem and essentially enfs the Davidic line.
The first fact here is that Nabo-kadurri-usar II (heb:Nebuchadnezzar) did not begin the conflict, that was his father Nabu-apla-asar (Nabopolassar). He reigned from 626 until his death in 605 BCE. The fate that would befall Jerusalem begins in 607 BCE with the death of Psamtik I and the rise of Necho II, on his way to Carcemish kills Yosiah at Meggido, Meggido was the seat of a small territory split off from israel by assyria during the 9th century. By 606 BCE Egypt had expanded some of its gains, but in 605, Nebuchadnezzar had taken over from his ailing father and basically sent NechoII running back to Egypt, defeated.
That year his father died and Nebuchadnezzar became the undisputed king and one of the longest reigning kings up to that point, reigning 43 years. Moreover Nebuchadnezzar II was made high priest of the temple of Ishtar, Eanna, in 626 BCE, indicating that he was in his middle 80s when he died. And the king who lost his mind for a decade was not something attributed to that king, but something that the jews of arabia would have known about a later ruler Nabonidus in his decade long search for a just deity to rule under.
Between 603 and 602, having failed to crush Egypt, having recieved little respect up and down the levant, the king campaigned to extract booty and tribute.
"By 601 BC, Judah's king, Jehoiakim, had begun to openly challenge Babylonian authority, counting on that Egypt would lend support to his cause. Nebuchadnezzar's first, 598-597 BC, assault on Jerusalem is recorded in the Bible, but also in the Babylonian Chronicle, which describes it as follows:"
" In the month of Addaru [early in 597 BC], the second day, he took the city and captured the king. He installed there a king of his choice. He colle[cted] its massive tribute and went back to Babylon."
"Jehoiakim had died during Nebuchadnezzar's siege and been replaced by his son, Jeconiah, who was captured and taken to Babylon"
"In 589 BC, Zedekiah refused to pay tribute to Nebuchadnezzar, and he was closely followed in this by Ithobaal III, the king of Tyre. In response to Zedekiah's uprising, Nebuchadnezzar conquered and destroyed the Kingdom of Judah in 586 BC"
Couple of things to note here is that the duration of babylonian captivity was until 539, lasting only 47 years, even if we add 9 years its still 56 years.
Daniel 1:1 "In the third year of his reign Jehoiakim". 605 BCE - 3 = 602 BCE, but as a matter of history, the neobabylonians attack jerusalem seven years into Jehoiakin's reign.
"came Nebuchadnezzar, king of babylon to Jerusalem and besieged it"
Dan 2:2 "And in the year second of reign of Nebuchadnezzar, had Nebuchadnezzar dreams and was so troubled that his sleep left him."
Nebuchadnezzars reign year
0 - 605
1 - 604 campaign against askalon
2 - 603 campaign in an unknown place, Isqalanu and Hazzatu (possibly gaza)
3 - 602/601 campaign in the levant.
4 - 601 Egyptian campaign .
5 - 600 Rebuilding his Army
6 - 599 the campaign against Syrian nomads
7 - 598 the campaign against Jehoiakim.
So daniel was unlikely in the custody of Babylon in the second year of his reign.
Daniel 4:24
"his is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree that the Most High has issued against my lord the king: 25 You will be driven away from mankind, and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will feed on grass like an ox and be drenched with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes. 26As for the command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots, your kingdom will be restored to you as soon as you acknowledge that Heaven rules.…"
This never happened.
"31While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven: “It is decreed to you, King Nebuchadnezzar, that the kingdom has departed from you. 32You will be driven away from mankind to live with the beasts of the field, and you will feed on grass like an ox. And seven times will pass you by, until you acknowledge that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.” 33At that moment the sentence against Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from mankind. He ate grass like an ox, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.…"
Ahhh, no, didnt happen.
Daniel 5:2 - Belshazzar - Son of king Nabonidus, the last king of Babylon r. 556-539 BC, Nebuchadnezzar died in 562, Belshazzar was unlikely his son.
"20But when his heart became arrogant and his spirit was hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne, and his glory was taken from him.…"
Nebuchadnezzar died at a ripe old age a the typical maximum life expectancy. One of the longest serving kings.
"22But you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, even though you knew all this."
Belshazzar was not his son and was never the king. Nebuchadnezzir was the same generation as his great or great-great grandfather.
Dan5:30 "That very night Belshazzar king of the Chaldeans was slain,…"
"Belshazzar's fate is not known, since none of the sources record it. It is often assumed that Belshazzar was killed by the Persians at Babylon when the city fell, on 12 October. He may have alternatively been killed already at the battle of Opis,"
Also there was no Darius the Mede. Darius the great was a Usurper who assumed control 100 years after the persians took over. Cyrus conquered babylon and allowed the Jews to return (some) 10-15 years later.
Why make this point, any person who was of age (15 years old at tge time of 605 BCE) would kniw the precise history of the fall of Assyria to the rise of Persia.
Very basic facts of the history the book of Daniel gets wrong, in fact charcters are njected into the text anachronistically.
Daniel is not just a forged text, its a very poor forgery. The sooner we start dealing with that the sooner we can put an end to the messianic insanity.
More to your point... the author of Daniel is so bad a recording history (which is exactly what the author is attempting to do, while actually presenting history as if it were written a few hundred years prior as a series of prophetic stories) he actually claims that king Xerxes was the father of king Darius. We know that Darius was actually the father of Xerxes.
The book of Esther also makes a false claim about Esther allegedly being the wife of Xerxes but that's a correction for a video on Esther.

Remember the angel told Daniel to seal up the vision until the time of the end. There is a scroll somewhere with more details.
James, I´m sure you´re aware that dreams and visions (and myths in general) can be interpreted on several levels?
I have Daniel to interpret Nebuchadnezzars dream just to please him and is kingdom, where in fact his dream was mythologically to fit the creation story from clay and the stages of cosmic consciousness symbolized by iron, bronze, silver, and gold.
So, IMO Nebuchadnezzar got a genuine religious spiritual dream - but he didn´t care as he went on wars instead - hence his frightening feeling in his dream. He was in fact warned that the real kingdom isn´t the material and secular powers at all, but the spiritual and social one was/is the real kingdom..
If correctly so, this solves the later several scholarly historians interpretation attempts of having a geographic historic cultural importance of “successive cultural power holders”.
Likewise, I have Daniels dreams and visions to be of cosmological and conscious importance as well, describing the creative powers of creation, in where “the Stone” making “an Earth covering mountain” really resembles the very Milky Way itself and its mythical Central Mound, from where the natural wisdom can be learned, just like Moses did on the mountain”.
Well, what do you say to this take on it all?
No black t? This must be symbolism of some sort! That you for the video. Keep up the good work!
Wait, what are these comments? These videos show these prophesies are failed. lol
Are you a Christian? I do like your break down connected to history.
The closer you get to the end of the world, the more sense these prophecies will make. They'll only make total sense when you're in a bomb shelter with the air raid sirens blaring.
So, did they make sense in WW2 when people actually did hace to shelter from bombings? Obviously WW2 was enormous and to have lived it would have seemed like the end of the world. How do these prophecies apply there if sucha large scale war still didn't lead to the eschaton?
No your understanding seems to intentionally avoid the obvious answer that the New Testament explains the Old not our modernist ideas. Jesus Christ confirmed more about Daniel than textual criticism will ever get you - When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Matt 24:15. Paul in Acts 28:23 had no reason to think this prophecy had failed when ‘he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets’. Any interpretation of Daniel has to bear Acts 1:7 in mind ‘It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power’. Also Daniel 12:9,10 says ‘the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end…and none of the wicked shall understand’, no scholar who believes in the documentary hypothesis would have a chance of understanding Daniel but they would go ‘deceiving and being deceived’ 2 Tim 3:13

Why are you assuming Daniel 2 and 7 are talking about the same 4 kingdoms? It doesn't read that way to me. Daniel 2 talks about Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome, and then it all got swept away with the wind. Christ came during the Roman period. The most common interpretation of Daniel 7 is the lion is England with the eagle wings being the U.S., and the bear is Russia. The leopard is yet to come, possibly India, and the fourth beast, unlike the others, a future one world government. Time will tell, but it's pretty bold to declare Daniel a failed profit because you can't come up with an answer you like.
Because they are the same kingdoms. There is absolutely zero reason to assume they're not, particularly when, for example, the fourth kingdom is described in exactly the same way in both chapters. It was Alexander's empire that was exceedingly strong but broken up after his death. In Daniel 8 only Persia and Greece are mentioned, and the little hornt that eventually springs out of the Greek goat is Antiochus IV. Then in Daniel 11, being supposedly given another vision now at the middle of the Persian empire, it goes on to describe in METICULOUS detail the career of Antiochus IV that other ancient sources agree with, until it loses accuracy at the end of his life. This is when the book was written, and the forger of Daniel expected - or at least wanted the readers to believe - that the Kingdom of God would come right after his destruction. If God DID intend to inspire this to mean your particular interpretation of England, America, Russia and whatever else, or whatever other random combination of bullshit guesses people have come up with for the past 2000 years (Islam, Protestants/Catholics, Nazis, USSR, whatever), God would be a total deceiver or miscommunicator to have it actually fit - sometimes to a tee - the events of the 500's to 100's BCE, and not give any hint of other stuff hundreds or thousands of years away.
Prophesy should not be interpreted as though it is fortune-telling. When Daniel was writing, there was no England, no U.S., no Russia. The book of Daniel only contains messages on what the author was familiar with. And btw, a "failed profit" is when your financial investment goes bust. Daniel is a failed prophet. Not a failed fortune teller. Learn the difference.

That was one of the better episodes, not tainted by Tabors own biases.
If you can't look past one's own bias to see the information he's presenting to make your own hypothesis. It's a you problem, not Tabor problem.
It was still riddled with bias his selecting reading of some text and ignoring of others is clear bias meant to shape thoughts on the matter.
@lemnisgate8809 I don't understand how people go to someone else's research page and expect not to find a bias. 🫥 It's literally meant to give his opinion why his hypothesis is correct. You can not expect a human to ever present a case based on unbiased works. Especially on works of such manner. Sure, one could try to provide as unbiased opinion as possible, but try being the key word here. Think for yourself, and create your own beliefs based on information you collect. Humanity needs individual think, not group think.

Tabor is doing far more than presenting information. You know that, and if you don't then so be it.
@iwilldi what is he doing, lol? Making you question things? Jesus isn't God, nor is Allah, or Jove, or Jehovih or Yhvh. Point is, peoples mental fortitude needs to be better in the current battlefield. The pastors and popes and rabbis all go to the same seminary schools. But they can tell you about God because they went to the school? Find a God for yourselves, and it won't matter what Tabor does.
I have never once heard a Christian interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's Giant, where the two Legs were not the Imperialist Divide and Rule of Rome.
Not Peace but Division
Luke 12:49 “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! 51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
I DISagree that the "Book of Daniel" is in the back of the Hebrew "Bible" for the same reason the "Apocalypsis of John" is in the back of the Christian one. The Christian text is composed, like that of the Hebrew prophets (EXCEPT "Jonah" and "Daniel") as an actual "vision" of "revelation" from God to the author. The books of Jonah and Daniel are STORIES about prophets and their "divine revelations". That indicates these characters are no more than "folk hero" types and DIDN'T actually exist.
This is a classic example of the exaggeratedly "poetic" or "romantic" character of PSEUDO-prophecy. Nebuchadnezzar was NOT the most powerful king in the World! He had NOT conquered the Chinese Empire.
The succeeding Persian Empire was BIGGER and STRONGER than the Chaldean/Babylonian Empire, since it stretched FARTHER East into western India and FARTHER North into the Median-Persian homeland of Armenia.
Alexander's Macedonian Greek Empire also DID NOT comprise the "whole World" and was actually only AS BIG AS the Median-Persian Empire. What it lacked of Armenia it gained by its European territories in Greece and eastern Europe.
The fourth empire of IRON would of course be the Roman. Pro. Tabor apparently misses the pun on this identity, that the Latin word for iron is "FERRUS""; similar in sound to the Egyptian word for the Egyptian ruler the "PHaRaH"; which the Roman emperors were worshipped as "gods" like. The image of the mixture of iron and clay in it refers to its unity against NON-Italianus peeples but its divisiveness among themselves..... as evidenced in their famous and NUMEROUS "civil wars".
The "stone" or 🪨 which would come knock the statue of the Kingdoms down is also a play on words: the Hebrew word "HBeN" for "🪨" being very similar to the Hebrew word "BeN" for "son". So it would be the "Messianic Son of God" who would do this...... most probably the Archangel MiCHAEL, the Heavenly Prince-patron of Israel. THIS is yet ANOTHER Hebrew word pun: MiCHaeL will become the Ruler of Israel representing Yahwah and superseding the human Aaronic chief priest on the mountain plateau of Zion making it greater than the temple-tower or "ziggurat" of Marduk at the center of the CHALdean capital of Babylon; which Alexander the Great's army had destroyed!
The "Iron Kingdom's" TWO legs represented NOT a schizion of it into East-West or any other factions, but its dual positions of "standing" on both the Sea and the Land as the GREATEST maritime empire up to that time. And Rome of course DOMINATED not only the Mediterranean Sea but the Euxine Pontus as well. It was practically the ONLY mainland-based maritime empire of the ancient world.
Actually, the description of the first Beast fits better the large l
🦁-bodied, 🦅-winged, 🧔-headed statues called "lammashtu" standing at the gates of ASSYRIAN cities.
The image of the second Beast as a 🐻 would fit the PERSian Empire as a pun on the Latin word "URSUS" meaning "🐻". The three ribs in its mouth could be either representations of the names of its three greatest kings (Cyrus, Darius, and Xerxes), OR (MORE fittingly) the three great land masses it partially conquered or attempted to conquer: Asia, Africa, and Europe.
The leopard with the FOUR wings on its back and the FOUR heads would represent the Greek Tetrarchic Empire of Alexander divided up into FOUR Kingdoms between his FOUR chief commanders, who created FOUR dynasties.
The FOURTH and terrible "Beast" would of course be that of the Roman Empire. The "ten horns" are ten emperors: Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus who FIRST brought the Judes into Roman subjection; Julius Caesar; Gaius Octavianus Augustus, Tiberius; Gaius Caligula; Claudius; Nero; Galba; Otho; and Vitellius. The OTHER "little horn" having numerous 👁️s like the 👁️s of a man which "plucked up" the previous three would be VESPASIAN, the founder of the Flavian Dynasty which replaced the last three emperors of one of Rome's infamous "civil war" periods lasting through the brief reigns after Nero's suicide, of Galba, Otho, and Vitellius. The age-old enigma of the meaning of the "little horn with 👁️s" that has perpetually perplexed interpretors is yet ANOTHER punning allusion: it refers to "VESPASIAN's" name, which in Latin can mean "the ASIAN WASP ("VESPA")"!! Wasps build hanging nests roughly shaped like a beast's horn with numerous 🕳️s in it resembling the shape of 👁️s and thus termed "👁️🕳️ s"!!
THIS particularity of name identifies not only the person VESPAsian as the "little horn with the 👁️s", but places the timing of the ACTUAL composition of the textual PSEUDO-prophecy of Daniel as being soon after VESPASIAN's coming out of his victorious ASIAN campaign in Palestine against the Judish revolt that his son TITUS finished by destroying Jerusalem and the 🏛️!!
IRONICALLY, THIS is the SAME period for the "END of the World" that the "Apocalypsis of John" refers to!!
"Revelation" OR ........ Inspiration?? 🤔😁
The "One like to a Son of Man" that comes to the "Ancient of Days" to receive the World Dominion of Sovereign Power and Glory is NOT Jesus Christ; it is the "Messiah Prince of Israel" the Archangel MICHAEL. It it a symbolic or allegorical allusion to the JUDES eventually DOMINATING the World..... as their god Yahwah Kana promised to Abraham in the book of "Genesis" would eventually happen. They would FILL IT and SUBDUE IT when they OUTNUMBERED the sands of the seashore and the ✨ of heaven and ALL nations would call their Patriarch Abraham "Blessed". THIS is what is known as "The Judish Agenda of the Great Work"!! 😎😮
The "Time, Times, and a Half a Time" would refer to the THREE and HALF YEARS remaining after Vespasian's conquest of Galilee, Samaria, and Judea: from the following year of 70 AC with the destruction of Jerusalem and the 🏛️ to the middle of 73 AC with the fall of the LAST Judean fortress to hold out against the Romans...... MASADA. THEN,....... THE END!!
Of the 🌍? OR of Israel?? 🤔
It SURE WASN'T the end of the first thing, AND it was ONLY the BEGINNING of the Flavian Dynasty!! 😁
So the "Second Book of Ezra" had to EXTEND the 🌍's time to the reign of the "Twelfth King": Vespasian's second son and last emperor of the Dynasty: Domitian.STILL DIDN'T happen. BUUUUUUUUUTTTT ....... CHRISTIANITY BEGAN SOON AFTER!!!!!! Even WORSE news for the Judes!! 😁
Dr. Tabor, the amazing thing is that while you speak of Preterism and Futurism as methods of prophetic interpretation, you NEVER MENTION HISTORICISM, which is exactly what the traditional method, going back to 700BC was! Why not mention it? It is precisely what you and everyone else is missing!. Historicism was used by the Magi (three kings) to learn about the birth of Jesus from Daniel's prophecy! and they got it right! The whole world has been deceived by Preterism and Futurism, two exactly opposite "methods of interpretation" created by the Jesuits, which were immediately accepted by the Catholic Church (how does it make sense?) to distort the truth discovered by the Reformation in the 1500's, and pointing the prophetic finger of truth revealing who the Antichrist was and continues to be!
I am very disappointed at your inexpert way of dealing with this and unfortunately, you are helping to lead people astray!

If you are looking for a linear interpretation of the statue, it doesn’t make sense for the Medes & Persians to be one kingdom and the Greek empires to be divided into two separate kingdoms.
The simplest explanation is that the Greek empire is the third kingdom, the fourth one being the kingdom of the Romans, and the feet of clay and iron are the divided Roman empire. By default, that would make the rock the Islamic kingdom that broke the divided empire.
If you are looking for a logical, linear explanation of the vision, it’s pretty hard to find an internally consistent explanation that doesn’t have the rock be Islam. If you don’t want to see that interpretation, then you have to understand the vision to be nonlinear.
My Guess:
Head = Nebuchadnezzar
Chest = Persian (Medians were Persians too)
Bronze = Alexander + the whole Bronze age
Iron = Roman(Current day UN Alliance)
Iron + Sand = Roman + Islam (It just means like a tussle between both with no clear winner)
The Roman Christian Empire & The Muslim Empire have been at tug of war over the region from sometime now.
The fireball is the breaking of the foundation of all these Kingdom style ideas in which people make monuments of themselves like as if they were in control of anything to begin with. The new kingdom will be devoid of false Idolization.

Dr James Tabor that's amazing‼️ that indeed does not apply to Jesus. Jesus cannot be the sin of man because Xristians consider Jesus "the son of God" or "God." People may disagree with us what we Muslims must say thatwe clearly understand "the kingdom that shall not be destroyed", "saints of the most high" and "Alif X Alif" meaning "10,000 X 10,000, people served him" "dominion" "being presented in the heavenly court" "forever". The Jews already lost their kingdom so their proof is finished after the destruction of the second temple so they don't qualify. Like I say we Muslims understand clearly to whom that's applying.
