Why was this lady invited to UHD? This is unbelievable.

Why is it unbelievable? Maybe you are not her intended audience. It's ok, really. You and your values and your identity are not the center of the world--I know that may be unbelievable to you, but it's ok. This is America. There are a lot of different types of humans in this country. Thank god we live in a free country and we have this idea called free speech. If you don't like what she has to say, you don't have to listen or pay attention. It'll be ok!!

@@alexandriawhite2226 I actually agree with you. I didn't phrase it correctly then; she can express her opinion. One of the many great things about our country that is ingrained in our constitution is free speech.

    A theory is not factual.

Facts without a theory, a story or a narrative are meaningless. Facts can never stand on their own!!! Water is wet. Ice is cold. 1+1 = 2....so what??? lol.

How oppressed can you be to get paid to talk and thrive in this country with a PhD?

I'm asumming you haven't read We Want to do More Than Survive by Dr. Bettina Love in which she explains how she got to where she is today but not without immense struggle and oppression. Part of the reason she is successful is because as a child she had her entire community supporting her. It took a village for her to get out of Rochester NY. As a black woman she had to overcome so much more than a white person from the same place. So just because she is thriving doesn't mean she isn't oppressed, it just means she had an insane amount of grit.

How can you be privileged and not use your privilege to improve the lives of those less fortunate than you? Do you care about Black people? If you actually cared about the struggles of the Black community, you would understand the role of the Black academic and Black scholarship in improving the conditions of the Black community. We live in a capitalistic society, so yeah we need to get paid for our scholarship. We need to get paid in order to continue to help the vast majority of our people still stuck in poverty, violence and trauma. Did you even listen to what she actually said? No you didn't because you don't really care about us or our experiences. Our struggle is different from your struggle, and that's ok because we have each other. You can buy into the myth of individuality, and pulling yourself up by your boostrap-ism, and being self-made, or whatever narrative you tell yourself about why you deserve the success and privilege you have. All of the rights, freedoms and justice that Black folks have achieved has been done because we collectively organized, fought and worked together as a critical mass. We have each other and we need people like Bettina Love to continue advocating for our most vulnerable people--yes and she deserves to get paid for her labor!!

Amazing. I knew as soon as it started she'd have to tell us she's a lesbian and it took just 4 minutes.
Also, her dad liked james brown and her bother liked hip hop. Now you know.
Is being expelled a racial injustice? What if they we expelled because of their behaviour or character? Hmm.
Wow - this is total nonsense. She doesn't even know what she's talking about.

Yeah it's crazy that she would tell people about her identity after being asked who she was.

Is being expelled a racial injustice? Is it possible that *some* of the white teachers responsible for expelling large amounts of Black students could be biased against students who don't conform to whiteness? Do you think that Black kids need exposure to their culture from the people responsible for educating them? Do you even care about Black people?
