  • A Conversation on Race and Privilege with Angela Davis and Jane Elliott is the latest installment of the student-led Social Justice Solutions series. Each year, we invite activists, thought leaders, and the community to explore action-oriented strategies to affect social change. This year we are honored to host two luminaries who have long been on the front lines of pushing the national conversation on race and racial justice forward.

I can't and won't apologize for what they did, but I can and WILL apologize that it took so long for me to understand and accept my own part. I had a lot to unlearn and even more to learn the real truth of. My silence was the equivalent of complacency and it will not ever happen again.

Some people are still go Angela or go Jane...when neither of the two should be dismissed. There is no ignorance that comes from either but I can place money on a bet that it has much to do with the color of their skin. Jane Elliott is a monster. She ain't effin around. Her and Angela should tour the country together. We gotta stop identifying as opposites. Not only is it not accurate its counterproductive to the overall growth of a country we claim to all have a stake in. Jane mentioned changing the language. This starts with the White vs Black, us vs them paradigm. Furthermore, Black and White are both neutrals not colors. Point being, that they are more similar than different. Mutual respect and social integrity can be found in Nationality. Stop identifying as Black and White. The most clear message to send the coming generations.

I am a 71 yr old white woman. Grew up and raised my 3 children in Philadelphia. We had little money and always lived in diverse neighborhoods. Color, religion, other cultures was never a problem always a positive. I think trump and the old white men (republicans) in government are trying to make race an issue again. We are losing our rights e.g. women’s rights and making it more difficult for black and brown people to vote. Everyone I know especially my grandchildren( in college) do not see color. I just want you to know mostly all white people feel and believe we are all equal and fight for all. Please don’t allow the Congress make race an issue. We all have the same hoes, dreams and yes disappointments. We are all Americans. Let’s fight for our democracy together🔵🔷🟦

I honour The work of DR Elliot...she has broken so many boundaries. But there is some internal issues that even she cannot address....She literally brought Angela Davis on. This was a black female opportunity to speak on light skin privilege from which herself and ms Kathleen Cleaver benefited, within the movement. ASSATA Shakur is still without country but her black contemporaries are powerfully equipped with platform, influence and law degrees...law professors, in fact...ANGELA DAVIS is a mixed female. ASSATA Shakur is black...although both may have experienced racism...the degree of it matters...what also matters to black females is our true black image...including our unique Afro...DR JANE ELLIOT gets it...she is a true ally. Not ANGELA DAVIS...these Mixed females stole the black image causing confusion when a true black person attempt to claim their identity. Mixed race opportunists like ANGELA DAVIS helped in distorting the optics of the BLACK AFRO....thus the black female revolutionary....not all in your skin is your kin.....Alicia Keys, Lena Horne, Halle Berry, Zendya....they wear our identity when it is convenient which is always is a world that would rather not deal with PURE BLACKS....so closer to Europeans..has its benefits. Mixed females are different from the Kelly Rowlands of this world, and they have always been conscious of it....ask LENA HORNE....we forgive so much betrayal.....

I'm 71 and as I watch my son and daughter wave goodbye from the train of life, I pray the part of the track that I laid down helps carry them safely through the America I left to them. As a white male I've had had a great ride. I have never felt compelled to make the sacrifices that Angela Davis has in her devotion to truth and freedom, the real promise of America.. A couple of days after the most recent murder of a black man, George Floyd, by a white police officer, I regret that I have avoided facing the desperate needs of America. Jane Elliott says it's never too late.

Frank, I applaud you. To be a 71 year old White man and understand what was being said and that you've been privileged all of your life compared to people of color is commendable. Just teach your kids and grand-kids what's right and that skin color is the only difference between people.

Always wondered why Jane Elliott never got the Nobel Prize for peace. You cannot change what you do not acknowledge -- Elliott's persistent conversations on race demonstrate what the world needs to acknowledge -- that racism will always subvert any real peace in the world... Sad. Period!

Angela Davis is wise and genteel, but I love how direct Jane Elliott is. The lady takes no prisoners. I would pay good money to watch her give Donald Trump a piece of her mind.
