I don't think its fair to hold them to a higher standard, but I do think that they have to be aware that they are in the public eye and what they say will almost certainly be taken out of context and placed under a microscope. I think there should be an observed difference between the things they publish themselves socially (tweets, insta posts, etc etc), and the things they say outside of their own control (chased by tmz, pressed into statements by talk show hosts, harassed by paparazzi, etc etc). If we take a step back and look at the differences of the context around their statements, you can usually understand and give them the benefit of the doubt. That is, if it's in your nature to forgive.
Honestly who hasn't accidentally made a joke in poor taste or had a moment of embarrassing word association? If we held the common person to the same standards many hold celebrities to we wouldn't get anything done. We would be too busy policing each other and trying to be righteous when really all we're doing is wasting our own attention that could be paid to things that matter more.
I understand the appeal of reading gossip columns and watching call-out videos or whatever, and I've done it myself before many many times. It's mindless media, it's fun. But if we think about WHY it's fun it becomes less so. We realize that innate human need to say "well maybe i'm not so bad, look at this person doing so much worse!" all in an effort to feel more valuable. But does it matter? You could be doing the exact same things but if you hold yourself to a lower standard, you won't ever measure up. There's no room for progress if we never look inwardly.
If you mess up, there's only a small circle of people who would witness and punish you. To scale that to the degree of a celebrity is too much to imagine, so we don't imagine it. We punish them ourselves alongside others because we feel that familiar feeling of "this person is worse than me, and everyone around me doesn't even see me in comparison" Its a feeling of safety. Another innate human need is safety in community. Do what everyone else is doing, be agreeable, shun those that are being shunned, obey, and don't think about why.
    Anyway,..... mad cringe lollll
    Love you Xtian!!!!! and Gucci!!!!!!!!!

These parasocial obsessions (or however you wanna call them) are ridiculous! Sophia is obsessed with Millie Bobby Brown! It’s like the new generation (my kid’s generation) has no ACTUAL life! Lol they live in this virtual lala land and NOT in reality! It’s sad because when I was their age we didn’t even have internet lol (yes I know, I’m ancient) 😂 But, I much rather it be like that for kids! I spent my childhood OUTSIDE! I feel sorry for them!

i feel like for people our age, we kind of grew up as the technology grew up. when we were born-i was born at the very tail end of this era, in 97- all we had really were tvs. and maybe one computer that everyone in the house shared. the virtual world was a very small part of our lives, and the virtual world for kids didn’t extend any further than the game they were playing. there was no internet content or social media apps. i think that is a blessing because we were able to grow up, knowing that the virtual world was not as cool and fun and important as the real world! our relationships weren’t para-social, they were SOCIAL lol. i don’t think things will ever go back to the way they were. and i genuinely believe that people born between 1980-2000 got the very last of “the good old days”
