FANTASTIC REVIEW!! I’ve owned two: Radius 4 Premium Edition and the Radius 4V. Sold the former after I bought the latter-with supreme delight. My friend is ecstatic with the Radius 4 and I couldn’t be more pleased with my Radius 4V even though it’s the first iteration.
With regard to your question for the comments I’d say the Technics 1200/1210, Isonoe420 and my Mastersounds bespoke icy white 4V flanked by heavily modded icy white Mastersounds 1210s are the prettiest kit I’ve deejayed on. Gotta give props to my Condesa Lucia Firecracker Edition rotary mixer. It’s also of thing of beauty. Keep the stellar reviews coming!!! ✌🏽

The flexible cross fader brings an incredible amount of flexibility to the very rigid rotary mixer options out there. It and the cue system in the 4V were the reasons I upgraded from my Radius 4. Thx for another great review!!!

Great review. Always appreciate your perspective. One note to add that is less than fair, the orbit 6 can easily be adapted to a table top type of setup. I can share a pic for anyone considering. These 2 mixers are separate market segments only by need for the additional functional channels and budget. Otherwise, one shouldn’t pass on the orbit simply due to lack of simple wood working skills. I created a table top version of the 6 in

I first came across that rather unique way of routing the cue on my 1603, and I always wondered why this wasnt waaaay more common. the only thing that the mastersounds is missing is a split option for the vu-meter, so that side by side metering is possible even without having to use split cue all the time.

I had a Xone - 92 Dark Bahamas Edition. Man that was a beautiful mod to the 92. And the summing was something else.
I play mostly in headphones and A & H mixers are dreadful for that so I ended up selling, but would definitely still have it if it wasn't for that.
Definitely tempted to sell my Rane 2015 and pick this up. Although that pfl workflow gives me A & H mixer vibes, lol!

Yeah, Xone 92 and headphones is a thing to work around with to have the quality. Really curious about this four valve one though, very cool. It seems rotary knobs is and american thing, let's say, and faders a european thing. Funny to see the differences.

  • @TheSakuraGumiLTD
    @TheSakuraGumiLTD 11 месяцев назад +4

I love this and might get one.
I defiantly think it should just be set as a short cut fader, maybe with adjustment of short length so all tastes are covered.
I was first glad you can select it to not touch the cross fader at all as it's such a easy thing to knock, but liked the fact I could engage it to scratch.
I guess you might want the full cross fade so you can cut track out quicker than a rotary, but they could make it a shorter fade without that being compromised where the short cross fade is too noticeable not being short enough... just favour that... you'd only want it for cutting tracks quicker so a full slow fad is pointless anyway

In terms of construction and craftsmanship, the Shure SM58 mic is up there with the SL1200. They can take a beating, dropping, screaming and they work every time. There’s a reason they dominated the live music industry for so long. Not perfect for studio work, there are more subtle and warmer mics, but every DJ booth has one somewhere, next to the mini fridge, a pile of jackets and hand scribbled requests.

talking about 'sound quality' Mastersounds is the best I ever played, powerful but smooth, frequencies are so well mixed.. (just behind it's Xone 96)

It would be great to see you do a review of an Alpha Recording System mixer. If I was to splash out on a boutique rotary, I would be conflicted about whether to get a Mastersounds or an Alpha. Best of both worlds with rotaries and a crossfader on the Mastersounds though. I have a vintage Vestax MW-3000 which also has both options and I love that flexibility.

    • @DanielRivera-wn7ne
      @DanielRivera-wn7ne 11 месяцев назад +3

I'll chime in on this one since I have owned the following mixers. 1-The MasterSounds 4v 2- The ARS 9000s 3- (Current Mixer) MasterSounds 4V Mk2. This might be a little long so bare with me.
The Original MS 4V was an amazing sounding and feeling mixer. It had almost all the bells and whistles I ever wanted including per channel sends! BUT for my style of mixing, I longed for more aggressive EQs. I was always wanting more when I used the channel EQs and because of that, I always felt I was not achieving the mixes I truly wanted.
Additionally the main stereo Iso was not the best for performance in my opinion. (I'm a NYC bred DJ. I play my ISO).
Now back to the good. We must talk about customer service. MasterSounds is beyond reproach! They truly care for their customers. I once had a power surge and needed it serviced. After some detailed but fast trouble shooting, they sent me a label, fixed it in a weeks time and shipped it right back. Super fast considering they are in the UK. VERY IMPRESIVE.
So, because of my desire for different style EQs, I decided to give the ARS a go. It had the hybrid EQs/Isolators on each channel which I was curious about. It had the sends which is a MUST for me. A full ISO. Seemed great.
I hooked it up and BOOM! What a sound!! Punchy as hell. Loved it! EQ's were NICE! ISO? NICE!!
So I sold my MS4V. (I lost NO money on it which was a plus! MS holds it value. So does ARS, but more on that later).
So, I did discover a flaw with the ARS. The send/ return system has some very low level bleed that would never go away. It was as if my effect unit was always on in the back ground. (MS FX box I did not sell). No one else noticed but me but I'm and engineer and I'm sensitive to these things. Actually I did find another person with the same exact issue on Reddit. This confirmed that it was not just MY mixer, but was probably a design flaw.
I immediately contacted ARS and what a nightmare. It took WEEKS for them to respond, and when they finally did, they gave me some lame answer about mismatched impedances. I have worked on many studio consoles with send return systems and never had this issue they were asking me (and the other guy on Reddit) to live with. I was not happy but could not loose the features and that great sound (ruined by the bleed).
Finally, MasterSounds announces the Mk2 and I feel like Santa read my wish list! lol. I ordered the mixer and fell in love INSTANTLY. Everything I wished the original 4V had was added to this mixer and them some. The filter was just a cherry on top, but I use it the most now. The sounds is better than the original IMHO and I can't say enough about the headphone amp. Yes the headphone amp catches attention for it clean and engaging sound. Truly exceptional, audiophile quality.
So, in conclusion, MS wins hands down. ARS has a great following and if it was not for the defect, I'm sure I would still own it. Just hope it never breaks down because they could care less about their customers.
      Hope this helps!

@@DanielRivera-wn7ne That helps a lot! I did come across a comment somewhere else about the bleed issue with the effects send and return on the Alphas. What a shame. I have the 2 channel version and I do use the crossfader primarily to do long smooth blends. I bought it mainly for the sound quality of the valves and the crossfader. As many people have said, it does sound amazing.
But…. The dead zone on mine is about 1cm on each side and drops off immediately on any other setting than hard left. In this 'linear' mode, the volume really drops off in the middle I can’t get a good linear curve from end to end, like my Rane TTM57, and as such, am unable to gently bring in the incoming track.

I am pleasantly surprised that with the Radius Mk2 Valve there are no issues with send return on Pioneer EFX and RMX units unlike previous Mastersounds mixers and Xone mixers where phasing is an issue and master insert was the only way to remedy this problem?

    • @Mojaxx

No, there will still be an issue with the RMX units. That's a Pioneer problem, not anyone elses - they only work with inserts.

Say what you want, but this mixer will hold its value. When I sold my first 4V, I lost like $200. Bucks. Can’t say that about the budget mixers.
      But to each his own.
Some people appreciate, audiophile quality and are willing to pay for it.

If you want the best sound quality then you have to pay the money and these sound so much better than anything from Pioneer etc
