We really just have one goal - to make your food life better. Ok that, and be entertained at the same time. And have you learn a few things along the way. So let’s make it 3 goals then.
If you only want the steps to make something, like those vids shot from above with no people, no conversation no nuthin - then we are absolutely not for you. But if you wanna a little fun while you learn, then this is the place.
Cooking doesn’t have to be hard, it just has to be delicious.

THANK YOU ❗️
Max, your editing and production quality skills have gone through the stratosphere. Good job, man
It's all Chance. 😂
@@krissolson7043😂😂😂
Btw, I have a suggestion for a future video:
Make your favourite filet mignon 🥩+sauce recipes (3 ways) !
Cheers from San Diego California
Retired Writer, Producer, Editor here. Couldn’t agree more! Well done, and it just keeps getting better Max! Chance, you too. Now, Polish up your Dad… Not! B
Agreed 👍
Long time subscriber here - never ceases to impress me when you leave in little mistakes, like the bacon, in your videos. We can't be perfect all the time!
Exactly. Perfection is neither expected or achieved. Well, other than the mostly pesky bacon, which goes from 'not quite' to 'grrrnt' in 49.5 nanoseconds! If ya make it ya eat it > Luckily everything else was in fact done perfectly!
I'm glad you showed the burnt bacon. the best laid plans, the best of the best at the helm and pewp still happens! Thanks for keeping it real! Still looking delicious!
That outdoor kitchen is incredible! Looks like a fun crowd to hang out with also
Hey Sam! You ask for suggestions on what to make next. Here's one. When I was on active duty years ago, I was stationed near St Louis, MO. This is where I learned about Toasted Ravioli. It was on the menu in restaurants as an appetizer and you could even get them in the frozen food section of grocery stores. They were always meat based and served with a marinara sauce. I think that would be a great munchy/ appetizer video and you could also put your spin on it and mix it up a bit with different versions.
I know I could look it up, but what is Toasted Ravioli? I know what ravioli is, but I'm wondering how you get them toasted. Thanks.
Didn't he already do something like that?
Oh my….yes please!!!
Garlic Brothers in CA used to make a deep fried ravioli that was breaded and spaghetti sauce for dipping. Was a fantastic appetizer!
I grill exclusively over charcoal, and I always use cedar planks for salmon. Best salmon I've ever had.
Remember everyone. A smoker means there’s smoke inside the grill. You can smoke on almost anything. You don’t need a thousand dollar traeger. Weber kettle can smoke like a beast. You just lose the convenience of auto temp control. Imo it’s even better because of charcoal and wood flavor combining 👌 this channel is awesome.
I do some fantastic smoking with nothing but the lid from a Weber.. paired with a nice hole in the ground and wood from the- erm- woods
I smoked ribs on my flat top. I put wet wood chips in a foil dish on the flat top and the ribs on a rack next to the wood chips. However, I think this is a much better method!
The cedar plank salmon you did few years ago is still one of the favorite recipes of my family, and all the friends I cooked it on several occasions. No better recipe around. The mix of cedar, mayonnaise, sugar and Sriracha is just next level. thanks Sam, you’re a hero
I'm doing the same recipe too
This works with juniper too.
Including our ash juniper in Texas.
Sam, I have used this method many times, but soaked the planks in an apple cider or juice and bourbon. Always had great success with it.
Great video. Great idea.
Sam, your cooking with love is so inspirational and the video footage is superb. I have a boyhood memory of my nanny (Grandmother) cooking southern fried hoecakes and fish cakes. The hoecakes were a really dense bread with cracklings in it, fried in an iron skillet. The bread was about an inch thick, denser than biscuits and was flour based, not cornmeal. Salmon was to expensive so she used canned mackerel. Thanks for all your recipes and I'm definitely going to be using some cedar planks on the griddle soon.
Like an answer to this. Could u use the wood planks to cook food on but inside a smoker? I have a Traeger.
Suggesting an awesome pizza that came from a bar & grill that I would go to after work, that unfortunately closed earlier this year and was replaced with an "Italian Steakhouse."
It was called a Sweet Caroline, after the song. It had a Memphis sweet red BBQ marinara sauce, smoked chopped pork, smoked gouda cheese, and green onion.
I love your sense of humour
are the cedar planks reuseable or are the a one time thing
One of the best episodes ever.❤
Great video!! In a similar frame of techniques, yall should do a video cooking with salt blocks!
Excellent. Loved this one. I virtually tasted all these in my imagination and they were amazing!!
That reminds me, I need more BFF...Thanks Sam!
Planks for the memories!
Im actually glad i saw this... good stuff...
What do we think about smoking and carcinogens?
Love smoke and this is a great idea... Gonna have to try this
Another brilliant add to the back yard arsenal ❤🇨🇦
Max - would you consider making some dishes that are good for dropping off for a family with a new baby? Too many casseroles and not enough variety.
Objective: including vegetable, protein, carb options in same dish that is easy to make and ideally can appeal to a whole family. Maybe a green bean, potato, and chicken in a pan? Any great takes on how you’d do that?
Thanks for the consideration
I would think sheet pan dinners would be ideal for this. Protein like chicken or pork then add some veggies. Easy and not much to clean up. Deliver on the pan.
Absolutely delicious!
Where are you finding this music... i love it?
Awesome sauce
Sam and boys ! Excellent content once again. Can you guys come up with some more salmon dishes? Love salmon but no clue how to cook it. Thanks guys keep it up!!
Trager says not to cook with the lid closed, glad to know I can... definitely will try this.
As well with my Blackstone instructions, they say OK to cook (hood, not cover ) with it down, but no more than 10 minutes..
I’m definitely doing this next time I have a nice piece of fish.
Mmm cedar plank salmon, cream cheese, and a artesian cracker. One of my favorite treats
I'm wondering, would this work on an open flame/charcoal grill? I would assume not because it's on an open flame but if I'm wrong please let me know.
I moved to the PNW about 6 yrs ago and had never heard of cedar plank salmon before until then. Told my friends from TX and NY and they didn't believe it made a difference or would even work lol. UNTIL they tried it.
Sam: "Don't write anything down, the recipe is below."
Me: The recipe is never down below.
I've used planks a few times and keep forgetting to pick up more. Thanks for the reminder!
Got to try this!
Sam, can you throw together some Papa Rellenos sometime? I’m sure yours will be the best, thus ours will be the best when we do it your way!
Thank you, eh.
Btw, I have a suggestion for a future video:
Make your favourite filet mignon 🥩+sauce recipes (3 ways) !
Cheers from San Diego California
Looks delicious.😁
Finally a flat top recipe Sam! I'm always looking for a good flat top idea and it seems like you never use yours! Keep the great videos coming guys!
They sell Salmon with the plank included
I really enjoyed the episode. Seeing the grilled salmon, made me think of a salmon dish my husband used to make. Joe died in April and I really miss his cooking. I have no idea what the ingredients are. The salmon was marinated in an Orange poppy seed marinate. I do not know what else is it. He then would make a chili mayonnaise sauce. If you could come up with something I would appreciate it. He did use cedar planks on the grill
Great video. Why did you not flip the burger? Just curious.
Hey hey amigos. Can we see some carnitas in a Dutch oven? Also can you go over Dutch oven info / recipes to use it for? I went to sir La table in fashion valley and they have a assortment not sure what kind to get!! Thanks love the videos always.
Hey there Sam, came across your cooking show and LOVE it. Couple of questions.
1. What is the big black cooking top thing call (absolutely mesmerized by it) and how much did it cost?
2. Can you do a remake of the Red Lobster Seaside Shrimp Trio. It’s one of my favorite seafood dishes of all time!
The round cooktop is a Evo
That salmon is calling my name!!
What is the black cutting board Sam uses made of?
The flat top definitely works with the cedar plank! 😎
Please tell me WHY I have to download the SHOP app to track my purchase? I don’t use that app so why should I download it now?
Sam, can you do an episode on using a Himalayan Salt slab to cook on if you haven't already?
Again! Love the intro music!
Where did you get those big cedar planks?
Sam, you say the recipe is in the notes BUT it isn’t. Last thing is Chicken Karange. Why didn’t I think of this when I didn’t have a grill?? Great idea. Got to try this on my flat top.
could you spatchcock and cook a whole turkey on planks?
Cedar planks are a fantastic "cheat" love em on all of my outdoor cookers
Can these go in the oven since I don’t have a grill in my apt :(
Video idea: loaded ultimate grilled cheese
Sam you outdid yourself this time!
I made a maple and ginger cedar planked salmon once and put kewpie on top and ate the whole thing myself 😅
Fabulous Chef!! I just have to say, this is EXACTLY how I like my bacon! 💕🙏🙏
All redwoods are toxic. Yes cedar is redwood. I would like to do this with fruit tree woods and even hickory. Nice idea with safe wood.
I no expert, but I don’t think Weber would be selling something that was toxic and I know that Cedar has been used for cooking salmon for just about forever! But I could be completely wrong about that and according to California proposition 65, just about everything is toxic.
Hey Sam
Try alder wood next time. Cedar to strong. Not that safe to cook on..
Kinda wish he mentioned where he got the cedar planks from! I think I saw a Weber logo 🤷🏻♂️
6:46…add 4 wheels and you got some tasty pinewood derby cars
Make sure to purchase cedar planks made in USA or Canada. You don’t want the chemicals used in cheap planks from other countries like. Could be hazardous to your health.
EXCELLENT episode!
More fish please 😁
Do smash burgers on cedar planks so that it counteracts the baseball effect. Could be delicious.
lol!
Make like a Tree
Do I need to go to Home Depot to get those planks? I have a Camp Chef griddle that I love.
I wonder if you could do ribs on the plank?
You can use and wood species with that
Man that intro was good
The new theme song sounds like‘ Amazing Grace’. Lol
I love the sam the cooking guy
I've been using cedar planks all wrong Sam - Thanks! - Cheers!
Soak the planks in apple cider and then do the salmon. Magic.
Dear Chef Sam,
You said the recipe link below can't locate it. Can you help?
A Fan,
Jack
I’ve been doing salmon this way for years. Would not do it any other way. Thanks for leaving the burnt bacon in. All good cooks and air their eyes off of food at some point😅
Mmmm pretreated lumber for my tuna steaks lol no im KIDDING!!! looks fantastic.
You normally cremate bacon, but oh boy, you took that cremation to the next level! No way I could have eaten that. That bloody salmon looked good though. REALLY good!
For those looking for szechuan peppercorns, they often labeled as prickly ash and they come in red and green.
thats why i am still using chaco
Nice method. What was that juicy stuff dripping out the chicken? rBHT?
Ok I got one for you!
Remake of "Tater Tot Hot Dish" or "Hamburger Hot Dish" or "Teenagers Delight" depending on where you make it.
350 Degree oven
Cooked Ground Beef
Tater Tots
Cream of "something" soup. Onion, Mushroom, Celery, it all works.
Top with Cheese of your choosing, we like shredded cheddar. Bake for 10 more minutes to melt it. Add Fried Onions on top bake 5-10 more minutes (broiler helps here briefly)
The effect is a Cheeseburger in a Casserole with French Fries and Onion Rings. It's absolutely delicious. Wife and I have added corn, because it works. But please play with it!
People have been grilling salmon on cedar planks in Cascadia for thousands of years, likely tens of thousands of years.
Happy Friday
Can you do sea food like a captain platter clams shrimp cod or halibut
Why do you have a second flat top in addition to the EVO?
I was wondering same. When you own that many restaurants, you could probably afford it😊
Yeah, what he said Sammy my Man! Alder is the wood that most, if not all, the Pacific Northwest Tribes have used for hundreds of years.
Would you guys get a whole pig or a whole lamb and cook it slowly on a spit. Stuff it, baste it, beverages etc we'd watch for hours!! The meat could then be given to a local food kitchen or homeless shelter etc. I know it may sound boring but if the Sons of Sam were there as well... sounds like a hell of an afternoon to me!
Sam... Make a Fritoe Pie. Cheese, Fritos and whatever meat ensemble we can come up with...
Question: does the Cedar plank end up causing flat top to smell smokey for future use without the Cedar plank?
I need that shirt
Looks good to me, despite all the naysayers about cedar planks. ❤❤❤❤
Gumbo 🙏
ayye ayye i saw that fly on the piece of bacon!
Day 685!! Please make chicken cordon bleu!!
Haaa Yas my Friend Sam 👌
