The generation today will never experience the struggles of being unable to progress through the game because of these CGIs when the discs have scratches, wiping the discs, blowing the laser censor, and even turning my console to its side or upside down or even buying a new set of discs. 🥵
3 fucking copies of the game before I could play it all the way through. I hated that shit lolz. Luckily for me I got my hands on the code breakers disk, so I could just use the debug mode to go where I needed to progress.
In the final shot with Balamb Garden in front of the moon, you can see the image outline of Griever on the moon surface. Griever is the GF on Squall’s ring. Nice touch at the very end
I'm still here lol I actually tried 8 and gave up around 2011 but I tried again in 2018 .I get lost sometimes and it's frustrating. My faves to play multiple times over are. Ff13, ff13 lightning returns, ff10, and ff9 . I only beat 8 onces
What's crazy is that now FF16 on PS5 does not use any pre-rendered cutscenes. FF8 on PS1 was cool in that the pre-rendered characters were to me how they "actually" look and the realtime graphics were the best approximation the PS1 could do. There seems to be a conscious effort when you see the primary characters for the first time that it's pre-rendered.
finally just the cutscenes without a dumbass soundtrack dubbed over it. It is impossible to just find cutscenes for a game anymore without someone trying to turn it into a movie version and adding a soundtrack over it,
The re-release of the game uses the blurry PS1 videos as base upscaled poorly. On the Internet Archive you can find the "Final Fantasy VIII PC 2000 FMVs", which are 640x448 and higher quality than the re-release and the PS1 FMVs. Only the audio track is lower quality compared to the PS1 audio. It would be cool if someone would AI upscale the PC 2000 FMVs to 1440p (1920x1344 with 48px black bars top and bottom) and put them on RUclips, while changing the PC audio to the PS1 .pcm audio. So many details are lost in the re-release, for example the wavy turqoise water pattern on the walls in the sick bay when Quistis walks in to see Squall.

I used to think Galbadia was so cool and Balamb was just a Highschool Garden until I seen Esther. Never finished this game. By the time I got to the last disc, it was already scratched and dust ridden. The only FF I didn’t beat, yet the story was so fascinating.

FF8 was highly under appreciated... It was the first title to dive deeper into more mature themes like responsibility vs love and do it with a sense of immersion unlike earlier titles. FF tactics came before this title and was another deep one dealing with real life history of the Church having more power than the king, and having its own dark secrets to hide. It's these more mature titles I tend to gravitate towards. FFX was a good title for trying to accomplish duty vs death as well, but by that time I was kinda done with newer FF titles. I did however enjoy FFXII for its return to Ivalice.
I remember hating this game in the beginning. It doesnot feel like final fantasy due to battle system. And then card mod and u get crazy op and then you play other final fantasy game and you miss one shoting everyone with squall. And then When laguna start to appear , the game goes different pacing and start to get good. I have only played 4 , 6 and 9 and 8 . 8 was the funniest final fantasy. All the corny dialouges. All the laguna funny moment and the way he throws his friend like ragdoll from the cliffs and he slowly fall in funny way😂. All the grandma jokes. Zell being the best boy entire series.He even has his own gf side quest. Squall get sis zoned by quistis. Quistis : I thought i was getting jealous due to Rinoa but it was just sistery love.😂 (Talk to wall scene.) The way Rinoa kicks Irvine from the stairs when he is trying to walk cool in military base mission. Headmaster CID getting baddie Edea as his wife.😳 And then getting lost in the Lunar city. And when scientist explain how to beat Ultimecia. Head goes round and round cuz cannot understand anything. He says let adel posses .And then use power and send adel somewhere and then lets ultimacia do this and that and use magic to send ultimecia here and there and use power of love to return back to your time. And Ultima weapon boss.😡beating the shit out of you. And then Ultimecia transform into different form one after another.Like Mf cmon. Tonberry the knify boi being the best guardian boi. Mf odin comes randomly out of nowhere. I felt so empty after completing the game.

The Lunar Cry and Attacking Lunatic Pandora with Ragnarok, blasting a hole and the ship literally dragging itself in. I was 18 when I first played this and my god was I invested in the story. Ha ha loved this so much more than 7.
If they ever do a remake of final fantasy 8 griever should be squall primarily guardian force because I always liked griever but I hated that it ended up being the guardian force for the last boss when it should have been squall primarily guardian force they should have had a quest for squall to obtain griever in the game I would have liked that very much if they had done it like that

You're missing some cutscenes here dude. Like some of the train hijacking bit and the Garden fight when Squall is fighting the other SeeD soldier dangling off the hovercraft.

FF8 is so great ! It has flaws and after disc 3 its a bit boring but with remaster it's ok !!! Game to play/finish before you die. I'll never regret playing that game.

Instead of the movie or movies they made they need to get back to their roots a little. Ff8 would be a great movie ff7 advent was good. last was good but could've been better. Honestly could've made these all anime series without cgi or whatever they do and all them would bang hard-core. I'd love to see ff7,ff8,ff9 even,ff10 and ff12 never really got into ff11 but upward it's been good and I feel like they could make a lot I understand though but I just think true die hards know you know

20 odd years later the computer graphics are still brilliant. It was groundbreaking at the time.
