- Rappers Trying Too Hard To Be Clever. In this video I will be highlighting 5 lyrics where an artist says a simile/metaphor and then followed it up with "GET IT?" or "I bet you didn't catch that last line", or any iteration of that. Artists doing this in songs doesn't automatically make a lyric bad, but personally for me it can knock a Good line to just "okay, or make a bad line even worse.

the "Get it" era was one of the worst times for punchlines and double entendre. . . Big Sean, Lil Wayne, Fabulous, Tyga are some of the worst offenders

i remember when a rapper saying "get it" actually worked for me in the past. and it was quadeca's line on the RUclips cypher volume 2 when he said "instead i toy with the top charts but they heard of me, and emergin mc but you aint got the Ms so you just an emergin c" the bar was so complex and calculated and it took me a while to process it. but when he said get it it definitely brought me back to it. his whole verse was hard as hell though so ill give him that 💀💀
Nah, it's clever but not complex. Shoulda let it do it's own work. They end up sounding like used car salesmen overselling a decent car as Amazing making it impossible to believe anything they say.

I feel like this is ok in battle rap bc they rely on crowd participation so if a bar does fly over someone’s head they can bring them all back. Worse case scenario it’s a whack bar and explaining it just fills up space so they can keep going.

Although Sean saying "get it" was too much, I will say that I thought the bar was cool. The biblical reference does fit in the overall theme. As you mentioned, he was speaking about not getting involved with violence and drugs to be successful, so he was saying that because he didnt have a Cain (one who used violence to kill his brother) to deter him, he was able to succeed in a good life (Abel was the brother who did what was right in the sight of God). Seems like a dope double to me.
