I'll also tell you the requirements T-Mobile has in place before they'll unlock your phone so you don't run into any surprises along the way.
Why Do You Want to Unlock Your Phone in the First Place?
First, you can take it to a new carrier! With a new carrier you can:
- Have better coverage
- Save some money
- Get good BYOD switching deals
- Here are the best BYOD deals: bit.ly/BYODdeals
- Save money not having to buy a new phone when you switch
- (FYI Newer phones can generally be taken to any carrier)
- If it’s an older phone (older than 5 years) Sprint phones can generally be used just fine with Verizon (CDMA) and AT&T phones and generally be used with T-Mobile (GSM) and vice versa
- If you know the carrier you want to switch you can check your phone's compatibility on that carriers site.
- Sell it
- Take it on vacation and use a foreign SIM
Check List For Unlock Requirements
✅ Must be a t-mobile phone
✅ Phone can’t be reported lost or stolen, so if you’re a robber watching this, sorry.
✅ Your account must be in good standing with T-Mobile (Ex: all bills paid)
✅ You haven’t requested more than two device unlocks on your line (Can’t unlock your smart watch, tablet AND phone in same 12 month period)
FOR POSTPAID ACCOUNTS
✅ Device must be active for at least 40 days on your line
✅ Device must be fully paid off
FOR PREPAID ACCOUNTS
✅ Device must be active on your T-Mobile account for 1 year
OR
✅ Your prepaid account must have more than $100 in refills since you first activated it
MILITARY EXCEPTIONS
✅ Deployed military can have device unlocked anytime IF: your account is in good standing, and you show proof of deployment papers
ONCE YOU MEET THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS YOU CAN UNLOCK YOUR PHONE!
ANDROID
1. May be able to access the T-Mobile Device Unlock app.
2. It’s not an app you can download but is pre-installed on your supported smart phone
You can look for it in “my apps and games" then "installed”
3. Once you’re in the app, scroll down to How To's and tap Security
Tap “Mobile Device Unlock”
4. Follow the following instructions on the screen
5. If that doesn’t work, call customer support (1-877-746-0909 )
IPHONE
1. If you have an iPhone, you can’t use the app because there isn’t one for iPhones, you just need to call T-Mobile customer service for their help. When you call you should have a few pieces of information handy:
✅ You account number associated with the phone you want to unlock
✅ The account password OR last 4 digits of your social security number
✅ The IMEI or MEID number of your device
✅ iPhones found on back of device, inside the settings, or dial *#06#
✅ The number will be 14-15 digits long
✅ Your phone number
✅ (deployment papers if in the military)
it may take 24-48 hours to be fully unlocked.

The problem with GSM phones today that can be unlocked are that they only have full GSM capabilities and struggle on any CDMA carrier. Verizon phones can be unlocked and have full CDMA and GSM capabilities. I use an unlocked Verizon galaxy note 9 on AT&T and all services work. WiFi calling, video calling, volte all work. Once you put a sim card into a Verizon unlocked phone it restarts and the new carrier software, firmware loads onto the phone. A Verizon unlocked phone is basically an international version as well. Not exactly. Most Verizon phones radio modem lack certain bands especially for T-Mobiles hspa+ aka 4g, lte, and 5g signals. And Verizon also likes to lock their bootloader's down which you never find on an international variant. Now they're starting to just lock the entire phone to their network again like they used to. There was a point a few years ago that Verizon was the best phone to unlock tho
Verizon unlocked phones are annoying because there's always a big pop-up in red letters saying “SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless” that's why I only get either tmobile or AT&T unlocked phones.

According to the FCC website, carriers cannot refuse to unlock devices, regardless of account balance (2015 law). Complaints must be answered w/in 30 days.

magneta or magenta is the retail mode password, they can't block your signal in Philippines they can only block the Sim card

So if I bought the phone second hand . There’s no way I can unlock it ?
Try to contact the phone's carrier and they will tell you why it is locked and what you can do, but if the phone was reported lost or stolen don't wasted your time and use a rsim card
Just take phone to Walmart cell phone center. They will check this for free. I did this 2 days ago with a phone. Oh and they are not Walmart employees they are outside company

This channel constantly gives out incorrect information, and or incomplete information. First most android devices aside from the Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup are made carrier specific. Meaning they are designed specifically for each network’s different different LTE networks and often don’t work interchangeably and don’t support all of the same LTE bands. Verizon has their own model with for their 700MHZ C block LTE network, T-Mobile band 12 700MHZ block A, band 71 600MHZ. The only thing exception to this is if you’re buying a Pixel 3 or newer as they are universal. Also older iPhones older than X don’t have as much LTE antenna support for newer networks like like sprint or T-Mobile and not all are universally cross compatible depending if u have an iPhone X or older u should have stayed if they have have an Qualcomm or intel model to see if their device will support CDMA and LTE or just LTE. U should be more clear and precise before giving out inaccurate and misleading information. By the way Verizon devices are automatically unlocked after 60 days due to an FCC regulation from the acquiring the 700MHZ C block on band 13 in the 2007 low band spectrum auction. U should also verify your facts before lying.

Only one thing did I discover that was missing. For iPhone unlocks, you need an email address. Otherwise, 100%correct in this video.
Certain Android phones don't require unlock or don't have the app.
