i enjoyed a lot of games from back then. I miss hearing "NINE EIGHT NINE...STUdiooss". I mean...i still do, as I play emulators, but I miss hearing it as a youngin lol
I actually found that 989 sports games were at one point on par with EA's sports games. In some ways better as the canned commentary would actually match what was/had happened, unlike EA's announcers. Never played much else other than Syphon Filter 1&2, one was ok but two was a better step in the right direction. It's always nice to fall down memory hill.
There were definitely some solid sports games put out by 989 during the Playstation era. Always seemed like they were best suited for that genre. Thank for watching!
Cool boarders 1/2 and syphon filter 1/2 ... 4 of the best games i have ever played. Back then we didnt care about reviews..i was just buying games and enjoyed playing almost the 99% of them
Syphon Filter 1 and 2 were some of 989's best games for sure. They weren't involved in the Cool Boarders series until number 3 though. The first two entries were handled by UEP Systems...and I'd agree, were fantastic! At the end of the day, good or bad, its all relative...as long as you enjoy a game...thats all that matters. Thanks for watching!
I loved Jet Moto and and Cool Boarders and never forgave 989 for ruining them. Thats how i found this video by googling 989 studios ruins game just to make sure there where other people out there that felt the same way.
The comparison of Syphon Filter vs Metal Gear is not too accurate. Syphon Filter being a 3 person action shooter with a decent story line, for its time it was brilliant. Metal Gear in the other hand is a master piece- still find the comparison a bit far off.
Ahhh, the childhood sound of "NIGHT EIGHT NINE.... STUDiooohhss." memories. I always thought 989 Studios was THQ before they got closed down lol Soon I found out that 989 Studios got closed down, I been seeing THQ alot more since THQ started dropping alot of games. The first game i even heard about from THQ was this game that they did called Hot Wheels Volicity X. What's even crazier is that, Hot Wheels Volicity X played just like Twisted Metal but with Hot Wheels Cars & WAY better Story & WAY better looking Characters. Then i found out that THQ did this Anime Racing Game that i played back before i even knew it was them called Ray Tracers. That was also for the PlayStation. & I didn't even know that THQ was even around while 989 Studios was still develiping their own games. & Let me tell you. That NFL Xtreme Intro was the most ciringiest, the most hilarious thing that i ever seen.
THQ did their fair share of licensed deals and lazy ports back in the day for sure. However, I’d still hold them in higher regard than 989 but that’s just me. Realistically both studios had their ups and downs but man...those downs lol.
@@WeekendRental Yeah, I can't agree with you more buddy. EA was the king of gaming back in the day. I had all the Need For Speed's that you can name besides Need For Speed Porshe Unleashed. I had that for my Windows 98. But now they're falling down hill just as bad. They're nearly almost bad as 989 Studios now. Most 989 games were absolute garbage lol but I'd be danged if we ending up getting Jet Moto back & Twisted Metal or even Bust'a Groove as a remake for the next gen consoles like the PS5 & Xbox Series X including for PC's. When I was little, i was just trashing & rosting Bust'a Groove from left to right thinking how bad the game was. but when i went back & look at some gameplays to Bust'a Groove while i was looking at the character models & the graphics/animations i'm like "You know what? this game might be actually alright." lol so i don't mind having that as a remake also. but they gotta have to add dubstep, hip-hop, & technos in that game. Not no 1970's to 80's mess lol. That's not my kinda taste. Unless they have it in a way to set the music optional from 1970's all the way up to 2020's lol & have the music that's coming to 2021 as cheap DLC's or something lol.
the devs from twisted metal 1 and 2 seriously hated how they ruined their game on twisted metal 3 and 4 so the original devs worked on twisted metal black.
These graphics were the best look at this !! Why did they stop , why can't the remake the TMB Revamped , or the series , even the midnight clubs especially the NFSU 1 +2 😢😢😢
I've never played any of the games under the 989 Studios development, most of the PS1 games that i've been playing back then were from companies like SCEA, Eidos, Midway, Acclaim, Disney Interactive, EA and Psygnosis
There were certainly a lot of quality games being put out in the PS1 era. Which made the subpar 989 releases all too easy to overlook. Psygnosis and Eidos were at the top of their game back then for sure. Thanks for watching!
They were ok with Twisted Metal They were ehh with Syphon Filter And the only good sports games they made were MLB and Coolboarders Luckily they got absolved and made MLB The Show
While three is at least playable, it’s easily the worst game in the series. A better direction would have been to make improvements to the twisted metal formula, instead of breaking the game entirely.

Yup, that jingle is still burnt into our brains as well lol.

I remembered 989 Studios but now San Diego Studio is the successor to 989 Studios/Sports.
rally cross2 is good i also liked alot of their games

They always seem to jump in on the third sequel and be like, here, let me destroy and poop on your beloved franchise for you.

Couldn’t agree with you more. You’re not alone my friend!

Completely agree. It did draw a lot of comparisons back in the day though.

4:13 well cool boarders 2 did have an arcade port called cool boarders arcade jam

Well syphon filter 3 was pretty good but you can't beat the original two.
Totally agree, the first two were solid games. Sony was really pushing 3 though...kinda felt like their last blockbuster release on the good ol PS1.
Thre was more of a prequel of the events before the first game.
These graphics were the best look at this !! Why did they stop , why can't the remake the TMB Revamped , or the series , even the midnight clubs especially the NFSU 1 +2 😢😢😢
Mark of Kri - one of the best games ever.
Underrated gem.
Totally agree! It’s overlooked far too often. Still dirt cheap to pick up.
Their only good games were syphon filter.
Syphon filter 2 multiple player was kinda fun
989 Studios was the Bethesda of the late 90's.
unnamed715 their like Ljn
No way, Bestheda has put out many great games. 989 put out one decent game franchise, out of the dozens they ruined.
Don't touch Syphon Filter 1 and Syphon Filter 2, they are great games still today. The third was the worst in the series IMO

989 Studios ruined my childhood while I was in the middle of experiencing my childhood.
Nhl Faceoff and NFL gameday were awesome and best around for a while. 989 was known for sports games. How dare you compare them to LJN.
And here I thought I was old enough to know 989 studios
Syphon filter was my favorite
and my favorite racing game EVER..Jet Moto
Excellent game. It’s crazy there hasn’t been some sort of modern reboot of the series.
@@WeekendRental 3Xtreme too
Syphon Filter - Twisted Metal.
I play and beat 1 2 3 syphon filter Gabe Logan the worst syphon filter I played is omaga strain on the ps2 and yes cool borders was good
War halk was sweet af
3xtreme was awesome
They were ok with Twisted Metal
They were ehh with Syphon Filter
And the only good sports games they made were MLB and Coolboarders
Luckily they got absolved and made MLB The Show
Twisted metal three was good what else are they going to do with the series
While three is at least playable, it’s easily the worst game in the series. A better direction would have been to make improvements to the twisted metal formula, instead of breaking the game entirely.
RC car twisted metal is worse
Ah yes, always forget about Small Brawl.
What are your thoughts on _Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012_ ?
@@That_Handle You will never know what he thinks about Rouge Trip: Vacation 2012. Ever.
I missed out on a number of good games listening to gamespot reviews growing up
I loved there games on ps1
Cool boarders 4
lmao dude said sports games and then formula one, even racing games as if racing isnt also a sport lmaoooo
Lol fair enough. In terms of video games most tend to view sports and driving games as two separate genres.
Every time 989 took over my favorite series I quit playing them. The worst studio ever.
Cheers to that! Thanks for listening!
Nine eight nine
Studios!
