How To Create Ducked Delays In Cubase | Cubase Secrets with Dom

- Dom Sigalas shows you how to create ducked delays in Cubase for vocals. He demonstrates the traditional way for ducked delays, using the ping pong delay set to fully wet and creating a wide delay, but using the Cubase compressor and triggering this compressor as a sidechain input so, when there’s sound not present the delays come up and the vocals are not blurred. Dom also shows a different way of adding ducked delays by using the multi-tap delay to create a really clean delay sound which is even more controllable. Cubase ducked delay creation is effective, fast and can bring a real professional shine to your music production.

EXTRA TIP:
Cubase's "Ping Pong Delay" and "Mono Delay" and "Stereo Delay" have a Sidechain Button!! You can directly send audio signal into this plugins as sidechain, ducking is included and run automatically! you don't need a compressor. ♥️
Cool to know! Wouldnt u have a bit less control on how the delay reacts tho?
@@joederbyshire_ Both of you are right! If one is unsatisfied how the auto side-chain responds, you can add the compressor plugin.
Great stuff as always. Thanks Dom.
Excellent tutorial ! Many thanks
Excellent explanation! 👍

When Dom first added that delay I was like... "WHOOAAA! listen ten to that sound!"
Hi Dom. This was a wonderful video as usual but, I wish you had show us how this would have worked if we had the musical instruments joining in the track so that we could here how the vocal track would sound with the rest of the music in the entire composition.
Best lessons, thanks Dom!
A well put together, informative and very inspirational video. Thank you.
Excellent 🙏
that Multitap Delay is to die for haha! I'm gonna abuse that thing now! :D
Multi tap delay: "Please please please please use use use use me me me me nicely nicely nicely nicely" LOL
I have to say that buying cubase has been awesome. These tutorials are so helpful in learning this software and the software is packed with loads of features. Admittedly it does come at a very high cost but I feel that it is worth it if you love to mix and make music
Very impressive.

Thanks my brother, I forget about the tap delay. What a great plugin that Steinberg has given us to use. I will for sure be using this plugin.
SO loaded with info Dom and clearly articulated, I am going to have to bookmark and play it over & over again. Never used Multitap, must check this out. 😲
i try this and wow me alot. No kidding it's changing your delayed promise ☺️
Thank you
Thank you Dom
Thanks a lot again for this great Cubase tutorial. Used Multi Tap delay because of it's build-in ducking quite often but didn't consider using the two buttons FB and DL. Thanks to your video now I know how useful they are :)
Thanks.
Very helpful video ! thank you Dom !

GOLD DOM!!!
Beautiful tutorial!
Excellent and thanks
Thanks Dom, never-ending info from you , strangely I watched your video on Multi-Tap last night , question came up with Gregs audience as well
Thanks again. This will help my productions a lot, so I can reduce automation 😎
Amazing!!
Nice
I actually used the Multi Tap Delay in my last project purely for the ducking facility. Superior, compared to other delay plugins like Audio Thing's Outer Space (which I like very much).
Nice one, Dom.
СПАСИБО!!!
WOW!!!!
so coool~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another great vid Dom. There are a number of delays and reverbs out now that have built in ducking (so you can use them as inserts), the problem is that you may prefer the sound of your go-to reverb - solution 1 works perfectly for this.
Maybe you could do us another video, but focusing on reverb tricks with ducking? Maybe on drums or a solo instrument?
Clever :)
Wow, that's life changer! Dom just curious what did you put in post effect in Tap delay itself?
Ultimately it's easier for me to manually control and automate the delay than spend hours trying to get the settings just right with a side chain.
signal chain to record this great vocal please????great videos
Hi Dom, Excellent tutorial! Very helpful. Where do you get those great female vocals you often feature? Do you live record them in-studio or are they available as a VST?
Hi Dom, thanks for these videos, always very useful. Can a guitar be built using the same technique to have a long reverb tail and keep the sound clean? I would like to get as close as possible to shoegaze/dreampop sounds🙂
I no more have to struggle with delay. Can we have tutorial on duck reverbs
❤❤

Is this possible to do in cubasis 3.3 on iPad?
Can this be done in cubasis 3 ?
I'm using cunase 5 . There is a noise in the background. How can I remove it. Your help would be very appreciated .
Strange but I don't have Add Fx channel after pressing on SEND.
You need to add the FX channel first separately and then it will show up when you send to it.
Dom I'm using cubase 11 pro just updated. my multi tap delay is not showing the top section saturation, freq, width etc. how do I fix that? Thanks in advance!
Hello. Question please.
How would you do the oposite of duck delay?
Example. I am have a typical 8dot delay on guitar that i want to hear when playing but when i change chord i want to cut that tail cause it muds up, or sounds off key with nect chord. How can this be done?
Thank you
Did you get the solution somewhere?
@@JanEkbom no
For some reason this doesn't work for me it makes the vocal quieter not the reverb
..but at what cost?!
i know a Much simpler way.
