      have you done this yet? if so was it hard?

    • @bvandme
      @bvandme 5 лет назад +1

      Yes I did Pedro and no it wasn't that hard, just take your time. I followed the videos instruction pretty much. One thing thou is I used 194 bulbs, like OEM and they are just too dim so I think I will order the LED from Amazon (Sealight 194 LED) as they get good reviews and are very bright. There's a video review of them on RUclips also.

    Found out what the wire was for. It is attached from transmission pointer (R,P,N,D,2,1) to steering column. So simple.... Thank you... btw. successful in changing bulbs following your video..

    I positive this can be done on any vehicle. The type of bulb will be the only difference. I pretty sure the 2004 takes the same type bulbs that I used. They are a 194 wedge bulbs. They come in all colors and configurations. If you buy from ebay, type in 194 led, and the color you are looking for.

    I'm in the middle of replacing the 194's with LED's in my 90 GMC Sierra, however, I didn't remove the entire unit out of the dash, only the covers exposing the gauges. Pulled the gauges to reach the bulbs. Careful with LED's. If they don't light, turn 180, however, the "idiot" lights or warning lights are a different story. Since they only come on as reqd., you don't know if they are working so LED's turning 180 is a guess. A solution to that would help this old man. I guess leaving the 194's in would work. I also found that the forceps (found mine @ Harbor Freight) work well for grabbing those small screws. I also found a very valuable little tool to pull bulbs from Mill pinball company. www.thepinballcompany.com I use it for all the bulbs including the dome 211-2 bulb. Please offer suggestions via Facebook....or email: bohicarrl@netzero.com

    I have a 1990 Chevrolet Silverado. I watched another video on replacing the dashlights (because the whole leftside of mine is out) and they were talking about having to unsolder the old bulb and solder in the new bulb, in addition to reseting all the gages, etc. Do you know if that is the case? I really didn't want to mess with it after watching that video, but if it is no more complicated than replacing the lights in your 1991 GMC, I think I can handle that. Thanks for posting the video.

      +David Carraway There is no soldering involved and nothing needs to be reset. These bulbs just pop out with a twist of the socket. Put the new one in the hole, twist it to lock in place and you're done :-)

    when you do change to led can you still keep the same socket that it already has in the dash?

    I have 1991 sierra. I tried to pull out the cluster unit but there seems to be a 'steel' wire at the bottom above steering column that holds cluster from being pulled out. do you know what that wire is for? how detach it?? thx..

    • @dannybrown4681
      @dannybrown4681 5 лет назад

      That is a cable for Gear Indication (PRND12) attaches by a clip to panel below and to the right of steering column

    Has anyone attempted to do red LEDs? I have just put some in on mine but its so dark i can barely see the gauges. They are the correct bulbs an they light up when they're not in the casing. Is there a film or something i need to remove? Thanks! (same model, and have verified they are on because i can see the glow from underneath the cluster but not through the gauges)

    • @ffemtx47
      @ffemtx47 3 года назад

      I did the same. Red doesn't show up. I found out that the back of each gauge (oil, speedo, temp, battery, fuel) has a thick, clear, dark green plastic mounting piece attached. It takes some surgery to strategically cut holes in the plastic adjacent to the bulbs placement on the board. Do not cut through mounting holes!!!! It worked, although there are a few dark spots.

      Check that all the connections for the speedo are firmly inserted when putting the unit back together.

    • @jeffeverde1
      @jeffeverde1 3 года назад

      @@danielsherrill8630 type 194 - but the poster made his own LED replacements using the socket for a 194 and bare LED's (this was back before LED replacement bulbs were trendy).
      For a standard incandescent bulb, use Sylvania Long Life 194. You can get a 10-pack on Amazon for about $10 (vs 2pack for $5-6 at the parts store). For LED replacements, you need a 194 compatible - but check the reviews. There are a lot of crappy LED bulbs out there that fail quickly.
