This was an event where the weather really did affect her game and recovery. Not only was it cold and wet, but she was always behind schedule having to play the final four rounds without a day off. Gabby played her quarterfinal the same day Serena played her fourth round. Garbine got Thursday off to recover some. But with the damp conditions, Serena ended up sustaining a minor shoulder injury in the semis. Had she had at least one day to recover and heal, the outcome may have been different.

It’s insane how there isn’t even a single “clay courter” in Iga’s generation. Literally not one. No wonder it’s so easy for her.

Serena's overall level here was better than 2015 French Open, but surprisingly she won that one. Her performance in the 4th round was incredible. Some of her drop shots were exquisite. It's disappointing Muguruza couldn't maintain this level for a few more.

@@piper998877Serena was carrying an adductor injury since the 3rd round. It got really bad in the quarters and onward. Serena and her team tried to keep it a secret, but Marion Bartoli was telling people during the matches she commentated. It was actually a big deal at the time because she was blurring the lines between player and media.

Sadly that’s what started her downfall, I mean losing to players she normally would never lose to, I mean even here at the 16 French she coulda beat garbine it was a difference of a few pts, She had Kerber at the Aussie open that year to and just beat herself that match, happy she won Wimbledon at least, but it was such a shitty ending that year to the US open ending on a double fault to that giraffe pilskova uh 😢

You're absolutely right. That loss to Roberta Vinci damaged her mental strength. She used to be so clutch in semi finals and finals of slams. She shouldn't have lost the 2016 Australia open finals and the Indian wells finals where she wasted so many break points chances against Azarenka.

Uh... Zverev is 6-10 inches taller than everyone else. Isner was 12-16 inches taller than everyone else. Sharapova and Azaranka are both 3-4 taller than even Serena, so, maybe not fair, pound-for-pound, but tennis isn't boxing.
