Great video. Ridiculous that these 2016-2021 Civics are not recalled. Ive been a loyal Honda customer for a very long time, but this is enough to make a change. Hello Toyota Camry.
Just wanted to say thank you for this video. This really helped me from taking the car to the dealership. And I don’t want anyone touching my car. Much appreciated Sir 🤙🏽
Piotr, thanks to your video tutorial I completed the job today on our 2018 Civic that lost AC due to faulty condenser. Back in business. Much appreciated your time and effort! Excellent job!
Thanks for putting this video together, very helpful! Road debris damaged my factory condenser. I just finished the job on my '17 Civic EX-T, I got my AC back! All the steps except for a couple things were different with mine. The first, my Civic has fog lights, when the bumper is disconnected, just unplug the fog lights. The second thing, my car had stupid, annoying plastic pieces around the condenser that made it very hard to get the condenser in and out. I was able to loosen the plastic on the left by removing two plastic clips (similar to the ones used everywhere). The plastic was still annoying/in the way. I bumped some of the fins on the new condenser against the hood latch trying to deal with the annoying plastic pieces, fortunately it did not damage the condenser and cause a leak. Anyone dealing with the EX-T models, just be prepared to run into that, and be very weary not to bump your condenser on the hood latch. Also some more generalized advice, I put masking tape on my bumper around the headlights where you have to wedge the plastic bumper removal tools in the remove the whole bumper off the car. Last thing for others out there, I put r134a pag oil as well as 134a refrigerant into my system. The '17+ models now all use r1234yf refrigerant. r1234yf and r134a are essentially interchangeable. r1234yf is (literally) 1000x more better for the environment and care companies (especially in Europe) are being forced to use it by default now. I'm all for greener solutions, but one 12 ounce can of the new stuff runs $45-60 dollars. Way overpriced IMO and not mainstream enough (yet). I charged it with a $5 can of r134a from Walmart!
Thank you for this video!! I praise your wrenching skills. I would trust you, and I trust very few people to touch my cars. You did it by the book!! Great work man!!
Today I went to Honda dealer because my AC is not cooling at all. It is a 2021 Honda civic Touring. They checked the car and said the condensor is leaking and has to be replaced. A new one is ordered and I have to go there in a week to replace it. It is great that everything is covered by warranty.
Boy Honda use to be reliable car, I have a 2009 CRV and had not major problems and the AC is still real cool. Bought a used 2018 Clarity with 25k and now have AC problem. I'm screwed now learning about these AC issues.
Yep. Unfortunately Honda are not what they used to be. Toyota on the other hand, they still pride on quality - I hope no greedy exec takes over that company and ruins that.
I have the same car (2016 EX-T) I bought it new. I received a letter from Honda last year about the extended warranty. last week the AC stopped cooling I called Honda about the issue and they asked me to take it to the dealer for diagnosis. If the dealer ask for more than $50 for diagnosis, I will replace it myself. After market condenser ~ $50 + oil + O Ring + Refrigerant probably around $120 max. Plus, I don't trust the guy at the dealer removing and breaking some of these too many clips and screws In 2007 I replaced a condenser and rebuilt the cracked compressor for my friend 2004 Infinity coupe. Dealer wanted couple thousands dollar to do it. I fixed the crack with J-B Weld $7 from Walmart (yes believe it) . AC was still working flawlessly the day he sold the car in 2015 Well, I went to the dealer today, and he wants $250 just for diagnosis. I'm shopping for parts
I called Honda today about that. First she quoted me $130 for diagnosis. Then she put me on hold for about 2 minutes and came back with a $180 diagnosis. Boy do I hate stealership!
Went to Honda with this issue a little over a week ago and they told me it would be a minimum of $1800 for everything, LOL. They're wild at the dealership.
Did you manage to replace it yourself? Dealer is quoting me almost $1900 for the replacement. Did you go with an oem condenser? Did you find any differences in this video versus ex-t?
Wesley Chapel Honda in Florida just quoted me $2800 to replace condenser and compressor. The car has 44k miles on it and blows cool air out of the drivers vents, not cold. I mentioned this 19-091 recall and was told my car did not qualify. I think they were trying to scam me so I picked up the car and complained to corporate. At the end of the day, I'm screwed. Will just shoot it with some refrigerant and see how long it lasts. Never going to a dealership again.
Funny you said that. I was on vacation last week in FL and stayed on the Best Western in front of Sleep Inn in Wesley Chapel (just a couple of blocks away from that stealership) and I actually planned on stopping by to inquire about my AC... Glad I didn’t. My ‘17 civic HB just hit 44k miles on that trip.
@@Joey-yq5se been 3 weeks for me and it’s held up. I read someone in a Civic forum having lasted 1 year and counting on a charge after discovering this problem.
I got a letter in the mail last year and thankfully my 2016 was under the extended warranty because it stopped cooling this year. I just got it back from Honda, they had it over a week because the condenser was on back order but they replaced it free of charge, hope that fixes the problem and there is not another part in the AC system that leaks.
Were the fins on your condenser bad by any means? I have a 2016 civic too, and I have booked an appointment for diagnosis but I am pretty sure it’s condenser based on so many people with same issue. But my condenser’s fins seem quite messed up maybe from road debris. Not sure if it’s worth paying couple hundred for diagnosis at a dealership, they might just say it’s not a bad condenser, it’s just damaged so they can’t fix it under warranty.
@@harrysaini2379 Don't go to dealer. A lot of people has faced the same issue. Dealer will say that it won't be covered under warranty if the fins are badly damaged. You will get all the condenser related parts for the same diagnosis fee.
Vivekananda Reddy thanks for the reply, actually I have been to dealer already and apparently even though my condenser’s fins were in pretty bad condition the actual coil was not damaged, so they agreed to do it under warranty. I saw the letter Honda published for this warranty and in that they had a couple pictures of what kind of damage voids warranty and what kind doesn’t, I checked and I took the risk. It was well worth it. :)
@@jacksonsilva6335 yeah it takes about 10-15 minutes on a hot day to start blowing ice cold air, which I think is normal, but I can immediately feel that it’s working when I turn it on. The mechanic should have checked before finalizing the repair, I don’t know what else to say but If it doesn’t feel cold after a few minutes then I suggest you go back to them.
hi, thanks for the video. I replaced my condenser and put oil directly from the condenser (top inlet) only now it seems the system is clogged. The system worked fine (apart from the condenser leak) before the replacement, now only warm air comes out. The compressor works. High pressure and low pressure are the same, so I think the condenser is clogged with oil. What do you think? Thank you
I believe that 2016 - 2018 have a recall on condenser, check your Vin to see if qualifies , you maybe qualify for refund on expenses , I received letter with this info , and it says unlimited miles. Good luck.
Hello. If I accidentally unscrewed a bolt of my ac line and let my refrigerant out, do I need to add oil to the system, or do I just pull the vacuum and add refrigerant, thank you!
Honda has put a 10 year extended warranty on these AC compressors in Canada .Mine was just blowing warm air a few days ago...Took it to the Honda dealer outside Toronto Ontario Canada and they replaced the condenser for free.....This is an extended warranty not a recall.....In addition to the condenser they replaced the piping to the condenser...I can not see why they would not do it in the US...check with your dealer...
Working on me Ex-t model as I type this. Ex is same procedure! I have the fog lights and the only extra step was unplugging them. The intercooler is also out of the way so no extra work getting at the condenser. Hope this helps you and others with Ex and turbo models!
Thanks for tutorial. I found I gap in your tutorial. Maybe you can explain it. Once you are ready to recharge and you connected refrigerant can to a yellow tube. After that you purged air from yellow tube. I assume after that you opened valve on your can to fill yellow tube with refrigerant after that. Started your car and then you mentioned opening blue valve. What about the red one? Does it remain closed all the way till finished filling all refrigerant? Much thanks

hi, my 2007 Honda civic's ac is not working. it is blowing hot air. when i took it to the local dealership, they told me there is a stone chip on my condenser and the give me quote for $1050 to fix it. i just noticed that my ac compressor is not spinning. will the compressor stop working if there is a chip on the condenser?
For the a/c compressor to turn on, there needs to be a certain amount of pressure in the system. If the pressure is too low or too high, the compressor will not turn on. If there is a chip in the condenser, then most likely the a/c system lost refrigerant and there is not enough pressure. There is always the possibility that the compressor went out, blown fuse, wire disconnected, etc.
Bought a salvage car and need to know which wires i need to splice into as i got the connector off ebay.......but i see 3 bare wires.......red.....green ....purple that are suppose to go to the harness of the high limit switch......
I knew there was something but I did not want to deal with the dealer. If they claim foreign object damage, then I am out $300 USD (a/c diagnostic fee). I would rather take that $300 and buy the things I need to fix my car. And besides, I like picking up a wrench and doing it myself. I still have the bumper to bumper warranty from Honda till Feb 2021 since it was a certified preowned when i bought it.
Most likely yes (assuming it is a US/Canada production model) USA/Canada production models - 50 mL (1 2/3 fl oz) Except US/Canada production models - 25 mL (5/6 fl oz) Si - 50 mL (1 2/3 fl oz) Type-R - 25 mL (5/6 fl oz) Hope this helps. Do this at your own risk.
Orion Motor Tech 5CFM Vacuum Pump Got it from Amazon, link below www.amazon.com/OrionMotorTech-Refrigeration-Evacuation-Recharging-Diagnostic/dp/B07GBMYH24
It depends on your vehicle. If you use the wrong oil, it will cause problems. Find the ac sticker on the hood and that should tell you what refrigerant it uses. For US models, it will also have the type of oil. If the system uses HFO-1234yf (R-1234yf), then the oil it uses is RL85HM (POE oil). The part number for RL85HM is 38899-RLV-A01. If the system uses HFC-134a (R-134a), then the oil it uses is DENSO ND-OIL 8 (PAG oil). The part number for DENSO ND-OIL 8 is 38897-PR7-A01AH. If you have a US/Canada production model, then you are adding 50mL (1 2/3 fl-oz). If you have anything other than a US/Canada production model, then you are adding 25mL (5/6 fl-oz). For my civic, I used 50mL of RL85HM (POE oil). I bought the oil from Right Honda. The link is below. www.righthonda.com/order-parts/?path=%2Fsearch%3Fsearch_str%3D38899rlva01 Do this at your own risk. I will not be held liable for anyone/anything.
@@PiotrBilek I am just curious where do you get the 50ml from because from honda civic user manual it states between 4.7 to 6.3 cu-in (77 - 103cm3) so 50 ml is a little low. Also the vacuum part is just to insure it's not leaking, right? thanks.
@@Btu555 I was replacing the a/c condenser and since I have a U.S. production model, I have to add 50mL of RL85HM. If I was replacing the a/c compressor, then I would make sure that the new compressor has the same amount of oil as the oil compressor. It should be somewhere between 77-103mL. I am pulling a vacuum to make sure there are no leaks and that there is no air and/or water in my system.
I used an aftermarket condenser. The part number is below. keep in mind, my civic has a 2.0L engine. Make sure it is compatible for your vehicle. Murray Climate Control A/C Condenser With Drier Part #7-30007

How long does this charge last? 4-5 years??
Did you buy an OEM replacement condenser? Have you had any problems since you replaced it?
I used an aftermarket condenser. No issues to this day.
@@PiotrBilek what aftermarket condenser ?
hi, my 2007 Honda civic's ac is not working. it is blowing hot air. when i took it to the local dealership, they told me there is a stone chip on my condenser and the give me quote for $1050 to fix it. i just noticed that my ac compressor is not spinning. will the compressor stop working if there is a chip on the condenser?
For the a/c compressor to turn on, there needs to be a certain amount of pressure in the system. If the pressure is too low or too high, the compressor will not turn on. If there is a chip in the condenser, then most likely the a/c system lost refrigerant and there is not enough pressure. There is always the possibility that the compressor went out, blown fuse, wire disconnected, etc.
I need a picture of the high pressure switch harness and wires.....can u help or email a picture?
Bought a salvage car and need to know which wires i need to splice into as i got the connector off ebay.......but i see 3 bare wires.......red.....green ....purple that are suppose to go to the harness of the high limit switch......
Do I just buy one of each of the o rings listed in the description ?
You just need one of each (if you are working on just one vehicle).
no need to do this on your own - - - - Honda put a 10 year warranty extension on the condensor
Compressor** (if it was replaced)
U didn’t know that there is a recall for the condenser for 2016-2018 Honda Civic? They change mine last year for free. And lifetime warranty
They changed mines for free today! There is an extended warranty on 2016-2018
Is it 50ml of oil as well for the 1.5l turbo engines
Most likely yes (assuming it is a US/Canada production model)
USA/Canada production models - 50 mL (1 2/3 fl oz)
Except US/Canada production models - 25 mL (5/6 fl oz)
Si - 50 mL (1 2/3 fl oz)
Type-R - 25 mL (5/6 fl oz)
Hope this helps. Do this at your own risk.
What vacuum pump did you use? Where did you get it?
Orion Motor Tech 5CFM Vacuum Pump
Got it from Amazon, link below

Piotr Are the o rings the same for a 2019 Honda civic touring ?
o rings should be the same
My civic was build in Japan
So 25 ml of oil to add to condenser
Correct ?? Just making sure
Thank you
Piotr your reply doesn’t show
Will the pag 46 oil work for the condensor ? And how much fluid did you add to condensor

@@PiotrBilek i ended up getting compressor oil from oreilys for the r1234yf ac system
I am pulling a vacuum to make sure there are no leaks and that there is no air and/or water in my system.
did you replace the ac drier receiver ?
A/c condenser and receiver/dryer desiccant are together on this vehicle. They were both replaced.
The front facia is not that fragile lol
Hi thank you for video! Can you say me code serial number of part Ac condenser? Thank you :)
I used an aftermarket condenser. The part number is below. keep in mind, my civic has a 2.0L engine. Make sure it is compatible for your vehicle.
Murray Climate Control A/C Condenser With Drier
Part #7-30007
dude really, you could of been a little quicker. . . I'll find another video or you're going to be paying me to watch lol
