Man Grabs Coyote’s Tail to Save Beloved Dog’s Life

- A South Carolina man saved his beloved family dog from being attacked by a coyote. The drama started when Timothy Snipe was out in his yard with his pint-sized chihuahua named Roxie. Suddenly, Roxie noticed the coyote and ran right to the wild animal. Snipe knew unless he fought off the animal, Roxie was a goner. That’s when he grabbed the coyote by the tail and dropped him inside the trash can. Animal control later showed up to take the coyote away.
The coyote felt completely defeated when it was being held by the tail
He wasn't even flailing or anything he just accepted his fate.

That coyote did NOT know what to think about being picked up by the tail, they're still capable of curling around and biting you if you grab them like that, I think it was just purely shocked. Good on him for protecting his dog! Keep an eye on your cats and small dogs!

The fact that the coyote became completely docile when he picked him up by the tale did it for me. Smart thinking and controlled the situation.
It was still biting at him but there's not much it can do in that situation. I think being held by the tail would be extremely painful and flailing around would likely increase that pain immensely. It's like your spine extended past your butt and then someone suspended you by that "tail". That coyote went from predator to prey in a second. That's probably a shock to the system as well.

The coyote lost it’s life for simply doing what coyotes do which is eat smaller animals. Animal Control killed that coyote. They do not relocate!

My lil dude Cody was also fearless, which is utterly terrifying..... Although not a Chihuahua, he had that same lack of self preservation thing going, he really thought he was 80 pounds when he was 8 pounds lol.... It finally unfortunately caught up to him one night 2 years ago now.... I miss him terribly... He was my heart and soul dog....
He’s a hero …not only did he not abandon his beloved and precious dog, he protected him. He’s one of the better humans out there.

Not only did this guy sustain bites from this coyote trying to save his family member, but he put it in the garbage dumpster and called animal control to have it removed. Then he bought a spiked suit to protect the little one in the future. Most of the time little dogs have no fear and don't care they're out sized. Great story.

@@davon6704you're exactly right. They more than likely put it down after the bite, so they can test for rabies. I would not be surprised if the coyote did have rabies, because of it being out in the day, and was not scared off by the human. From my perspective, the coyote was charging the man, and not going after the dog. It may have been going for the dog initially, but any normal coyote would be scared off or at the very least be more hesitant while going after the dog. We have two packs of coyotes down at the river, near the end of my property, that frequently hunt on our neighbors empty field for rodents. They get so spooked by any human, even when in a pack, they all take off running. The only time I've ever seen a coyote out in the day, alone. It was later put down by animal control, and suspected of rabies. It had distemper. But I remember coming out to it crossing the back of my property in the early morning. Thought maybe it was just out later and running behind it's pack, but it was apparently spotted later in the day wandering around neighboring properties, seemingly without purpose. So someone called it in. Very sad, but necessary.

Sparing the coyote would be letting it run off. Trapping it and having Animal Control come get it means they killed it to check for rabies

That was my first thought as well. I mean this is a big dude. I am an animal lover, but defending my pet comes first. He absolutely could have killed that coyote just by dropping his bodyweight on it. And I would not have a damn thing to say about it when the potential victim is so very small. I think this is a rare case of one of those gentle giants. This guy could probably put a strangers crying baby to sleep in his arms, and then go lift a Ford F250 off of someone pinned under it. And then refuse an interview because “I’m not a hero I was just in the right place at the right time“. The world would be a safer place if we all had next-door neighbors like this dude.

He's better off building a fence to contain and protect his dog, what is he thinking letting her run around like that? From experience, Chihuahua aggression goes unchecked by most owners so not only is the little ankle biter at risk of picking a fight with the wrong person/dog and ending up injured or worse but there's also a risk she bites someone. He needs to build a fence.

Glad he was paying attention and able to help. I'd do the same thing for my dachshunds. But I'm surprised the coyote tried to attack him for interfering. I've been walking my pups on the trail and regularly check my back for people and coyotes. One time one was following us, and he backed off pretty quick after being spotted and throwing rocks and branches at it. Maybe I was luckier than I thought
Depending on the area, coyotes can be VERY bold. We don't know how hungry the coyote was either, if it was risking attacking a human for a tiny dog.

You don't know for sure if it has rabies, and if it does and you don't get it treated, it has a 100% fatality rate.
The fact it was out during the day aaaaand it tried to bite the human, I’m going to guess it was rabbid.

They always ran away when I saw them. One time though I was walking a dog through a wooded area and a coyote was following us and barking just like a dog. That went on for 20 or 30 minutes. The dog is a black lab and it went up to the coyote but they didn't fight, they just looked at each other for a little while.

We had a rescued Chihuahua for almost 15 years . He thought he was an eighty pound Pitbull and I still love and miss him to this day . ❤ Great coat ! Glad the outcome was a good one .
