Native California here. I lived at the very bottom of the tax/class bracket having grown up in the agricultural central valley of Northern CA to now living comfortably financially in the Sacramento area. I'll gladly pay an extra few cents on the dollar for the weather, access to outdoors and national parks and job opportunities.

I'm used to 100-110 degree dry heat in California's Central Valley, I can live with it. However, 2 weeks in Houston one July a few years back was pure HELL. Florida is just as bad, too. I'd be very hesitant to give up CA weather for the sticky, oppressively hot and humid southern states.

And odds are more and more people will fall into poverty as California and the federal government continue to hike prices and taxes on every citizen that lives here and wonders why they can’t get the high income earners to pay their share because no one can afford to live here unless you suck the Sacramento governments butt as a corporate lobbyist or your part of the 1% that lives outside of everyone else

I'm a middle-aged adult who wants to go back to school, and eventually get a job working in the film industry. One thing I like about the idea of moving to LA, is that it's a city that has a lot of creative vibes, and I feel like it's a place where creativity is valued, not something you use for a hobby because you need to get a "real" job. I have creative skills and I want to be in a place where I can learn how to use them. I live in Kansas, a decent place in itself, but not very exciting, and I like the idea of living in a place where I don't have to worry about icy roads in the wintertime, and having to drive for two days just to see an ocean, or anyplace that I consider a fun place for a vacation. I also like the mix of people who come from places all over the world. In the city I'm working in now, I'm used to driving myself everywhere, so the lack of walkability and public transportation doesn't bother me. I find LA an intriguing place in many respects, in spite of its problems. I'm just trying to figure out how I can afford to move there, since I know that LA is NOT a cheap city to live in!

When you said that you recommend a single person make $50k a year to live comfortably in California, I got a bit scared. What industries pay this much out in SoCal / L.A. area?
It's just that here in my home state of Maryland there aren't many job opportunities and as a college-educated 31 year-old, I know I need to move somewhere there are abundant opportunities that don't exist here.
So, what fields are hiring right now in California?
Where I live now is horrible. I want out. But I don't want to leave Maryland without a firm plan in place for employment and housing.

That being said, service, parts, sales etc are good but the jobs I'm applying for are sales/service related. That's where the money is imo. I buy and sell cars now here in Canada for work so I know the ins and outs of the industry and have a lot of practical knowledge and customer service skills that people seem to value highly as far as what employers are willing to pay me specifically.
