    27 year TBI survivor here from a bad car wreck on 3/31/97... I was in the hospital 26 days and in Physical Therapy 18 months... I struggle with repeating myself,poor multitasking skills,poor short term memory loss etc... Post TBI I attempted and failed at several careers-( Special Education Teacher,Car Salesman,911 Radio Dispatcher) The combination of TBI issues,PTSD issues and career failures led to increased depression,anxiety and suicidal thoughts... I FINALLY have a somewhat decent quality of life... I FINALLY received SSDI-( Social Security Disability Income ) after 15 years,4 appeals and 3 attorneys... I now drive part time for a car dealership and build model cars as a hobby... These activities give my life meaning,help me deal with my TBI and PTSD issues,and improve my self esteem...

      Here are some questions from a colleague who has knowledge of this area:
      Do they like listening to music? Can they tell differences between tone, pitch etc. Do they play an instrument? Are they able to do any part of what they could do before.
      Let me know your answers and I will try to get you some suggestions.

    My niece is currently 6 weeks post diffuse axonal injury level 2. We are currently looking for a rehab but, unfortunately, having insurance issues. Could you please explain the difference between a neuro rehab and rehab that states the treat TBIs.?

    • @UtahNeuroRehabilitation
      @UtahNeuroRehabilitation  Год назад

      Neuro Rehab is a broad term. They may treat TBI also. You really want someone who is experienced in working with brain injury survivors.

      It is hard to say because it is different for different people. To help him now, make sure he gets brain breaks. We have a video on the Utah Neuro Rehabilitation You Tube channel on brain breaks. We also have one on improving memory after brain injury. Could he get cognitive therapy?

      Jeremy initially could not walk. He then began walking with a lot of assistance. He had physical therapy which helped a lot. His family also worked with him each day to practice walking. Take a look at two other videos on the Utah Neuro Rehabilitation You Tube Channel: Brain Plasticity to Improve Function and Daily Steps to Recovery.
