  • In this video, Dr. Derek Taylor discusses the causes of costochondritis, cautions in treatment, and a sure-fire bet on relieving costochondritis. Careful, gentle and specific chiropractic adjustments are beneficial. Tennis ball massage is mentioned with cautions. Most importantly, the Class IV Warm Laser is Critical and Phenomenal for fixing costochondritis. At the end of the video, there is a success story of a patient who came down with a serious and painful case of costochondritis and was fixed in less than a week using the Taylor Method along with Class IV Warm Laser.

Hi guys i had this after a chest infection in April and it is a really nasty condition. However, after 2 & a half months after being diagnosed i have found some relief. Vitamin D deficiency is a major factor so get some Vitamin D tablets and your pain will ease. Also Omega-3 tablets help. However, when the doctors tell you to rest and "it'll go away" DON'T DO THAT. I have found that the more i rested the more stiff my chest wall felt and i was just seeing no progress. Ultimately, you need circulation to your costochondral joints. Do not do weights but exercise is definitely needed to recover. Pressups are vital even if it causes excruciating pain just attempting half a pressup a day will lead to a full pressup which will lead to 10. When the pain is bad which it will be take an ibruprofen but don't rely on them as you want your muscoskeletal joints to heal naturally. Everyday make sure you do costo stretches by standing in a doorway and putting your arms against the frame and leaning forward to increase circulation in your body. Drink and eat healthily and follow these rules and you'll get better trust me. It's like when you break a bone you don't just rest and expect it to heal you have to slowly train it in order to redevelop strength and make it less stiff. Good luck fellow costo sufferers you'll beat this!

You should not assume everyone has the condition for the same reasons. In my case vitamin d from a supplement would never help and I've always got enough Omega 3s. By the way you need real vit d from the sun as it's not a vitamin.

Very informative and I will have to try the stretching exercise.
I'm a 54 year old male and mine began during violent sneezing from allergies in the spring.
I sneezed so hard I threw a vertebra out in my back and felt a pop in my sternum. The next day I went to yawn and stretch late in the say and heard as well as felt a loud pop. The next morning it felt tender and I wasn't sure what was going on.
It finally subsided until I threw out my back a week ago and went to my chiropractor two days later. The adjustments he made included some fairly extensive compressions to the upper torso and it came back. Good to know it's not my heart!

This condition unfortunately does not go away by its self. I have done so much research over the years on this condition. I was suffering terribly for 5-6years in so much pain could breath or twist and not a lot of sleep I was so distressed. Please try. The BACK Pod. It takes time but I highly recommend it.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have not been to my dr just yet, but I believe I have costochondritis. I was VERY sick w/ a flu-type cold for 4 weeks. The coughing was very intense for the last 2 weeks, to the point where it made me gag and/or vomit. I noticed the pain in my chest after the last time I vomited. (the vomiting was a very violent experience I should mention) So that was about 3 weeks ago, the pain started to finally subside, and then several days ago I had a coughing spell to the point I gagged. The next morning I felt that same chest discomfort/pain again. I don't have any other symptoms than that, my pulse and BP are normal, etc. I am going to try this stretching exercise, along w/ Ibuprofen, to see if it gets any better over the next few days. If not, then I will make a dr appt! Thank you again for making this video!

i would like to say thank you in person but i cannot, so i will say it here. THANK YOU, SO MUCH. i want to jump with joy right now.
i rolled 2 tshirts up into a ball and layed on them with my back. i moved around in a circle, slowly breathing in as i tried to maniplulate the ball of tshirt to really Get In There and.. idk what happened but.. i have absolutely no pain in my chest anymore (it was a little to the left where the rib connects, exactly like you explained in your video)
it started when i tried to reach a mosquito bite on my back and ever since then ive been in pain.
you said it was possible to throw it out of alignment and.. i think i just brought it back.
no pain... anymore... nothing.. it wss so bad it hurt to breath and now im sitting here.. no pain.. nothing... jist a little tight from previous inflammation..
i appreciate that you shared this information, so much.

    Hi Dr. Taylor,
    Thanks for your video.
I've struggled with costo for 3 months and it recently flared up again after a couple laps swimming at the pool. For people who've had it for a while who have rested for several weeks and still have not recovered, what do you suggest I do?
I've seen 3 primary care doctors, a chiro 10x in 3 weeks, physical therapy for 1 month, multiple massage therapists, and a whole lot of money being spent out of pocket.
I've kind of gotten to a point where I'm desperate because my life is predicated on physical activity and exercise.
Do you suggest acupuncture? injection? PT? Chiro?
    Thanks, Nick

Nick Erskine ... Nick, I did a followup video on costo on my channel. I have only been to one guy who stopped mine for a long time. I'm going to go back to him and see if he will let me record on video the maneuver he did. I tried explaining it a little in the video I just put up, so go to my channel and look for "Chiropractor #2 Costochondritis 4am flare-up". See if the maneuver I explain is close to what your physical therapist or chiro did. I'm trying to fix it too, and it's relentless. I'm on the couch now with ice and heat... hence doing an update video on it. (Uggh)

Hi, not sure if mine is costochondritis or not? I'm a 44 year old male. It started about 8 months ago. I get a lot of muscle tension in the middle of my back, shoulders and neck. The chest bit occurs in the morning when I get up and stretch....the only way I can describe it is a 'pop' sound coming from the centre of my chest, around the sternum. It can occur at other times during the day...but once I stretch and hear the 'crack/pop' it feels okay again.
I do have anxiety also, so wondering if it is another symptom of that?

My doctor says that I might have costo, but after hearing you guys talking about how painful it is, I'm questioning if I really do have it.
So, basically the first week when I woke up, I had this tightness on my right side from my back all the way to the front ribs, and it just wouldn't go away.
After that I kept feeling a tightness the whole time.
It's been 6 weeks, and I can feel great improvements. The tightness isn't there as much, I can sit normally on my couch again ( although with a little bit of tightness, but wayyyyy less than the first week), and the cracking on my ribs aren't there as much anymore.
So the reason I don't think I have it, is because I feel no pain anywhere near my sternum, at all. The pops that I feel aren't even near my sternum, it's like its literally in the middle of my ribs.. I can do pushups without having any pain whatsoever, not even a tightness, nada.
So for the people who do have costo, are these symptoms that relate to costo? Or do I have something entirely different? Because compared to the first week, I feel a huge improvement, and I'm currently on week 6.
I hope you can answer this, and thank you for your time.

DivShadow look up Steve August's video on costochondritis. Hes the only one who explains it properly. His 'Back Pod' invention is helping alot of people cure their costo. Sounds like hype but its just plain science.

ibuprofen, advil, aleve, etc should ALL be avoided at all cost, UNLESS its a Life or Death situation in that very moment, IT WILL DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD OTHERWISE!!

I'm 56 and have had a Costochondritis Dx since 1993
...Now, i have been told it is nerve damage and I am an intractable pain patient ...however, it doesn't flair up on a 'continual' basis -
.....It is a horrible condition to have for some 30 years tho..
...Im now a recluse and avoid most if not all social interaction ...body isn't reliable enough for a 9-5 job either. The flair ups hurt until they eventually burn themselves out after 14 or 18 hours. i don't have any meds to take other than over the counter motrin...of course it doesn't show up on x-rays MRIs...and anything else. It's a fate worse than death itself ...i wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy if I even had one....

I've had costochondritis for 5 years and tried everything. I had no control over this so called mystery condition until mid December when I found a video on you tube which made total sense. Just watch for yourselves. Just search . How to fix (most) Costochondritis. There is a part 1 and part 2. Three weeks later after purchasing the Backpod I have hardly any chest pain and feel 90% better. I thought my condition was for life but obviously not. See for yourself. It's working for me .

I've now been using the backpod for 10 weeks and have been pain free for 9 weeks. My back is really flexible and I can breathe normally again. For me, these improvements happened in a matter of days. I am so glad I found the backpod. It is the best money I have ever spent. Well worth it to have my life back..

Been on anti-inflammatory medication since i was diagnosed, initially it helped and i though i was getting better so went to the gym and it's back again... and reaally reaally bad like never before... any help would be highly appreaciated!

Cetin Bilgin The guy who invented the back pod is Steve August. He has people making comments about it on how great it works. I've seen many people say it doesn't work.

    • @gSWG3R
      @gSWG3R 7 лет назад

Jill Talk What are you talking about? You trying to say that all the positive reviews on it are just Steve getting people to say it works for sales? Seriously? Its actually had more positive reviews than negative ones. The Back Pod wasn't invented for costo but it was realised that it adresses the mechanical issues involved in costo. You claim it hasn't worked for many so show us the proof?

I was told I have this about a month ago. I have horrible panic and anxiety already, and this has made it worse. People keep telling me it’ll go away in a month or two, but I’ve heard of so many cases like yours where it lasts for years. I’ve only had it for a little while, but I understand how hard the anxiety aspect can be. I hope you can find relief soon!
