- Stephen grew up a healthy athlete who never smoked. He had just started his teaching career at 29 years old when he got the shock of his lifetime: he had stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. After genomic sequencing, it came back that he also had the ALK+ mutation.
In this interview with www.ThePatientStory.com founder, Stephanie, this father and husband details three sections of his story:
Video 1: First symptoms, scans, and getting diagnosed
Video 2: Treatment, focused specifically on targeted therapy drug (alectinib)
Video 3: Quality of life reflections

Alectinib is avery good medicin, I had allmost no side effekts. Now i'm on Lorlatinib sinds 2 months, it has more side effects!! Just like Stephen I can do everything and have agood condition with 66 years!! I wish all people good health because that's the only fortune you can have! Greetz from the Netherlands!!
So true - health is the true wealth! Thank you for sharing.
I am very happy for the gentleman , that the target therapy works for him except that this video was done 2 years ago, what about in 2023 how is he doing please update us as well as other patient on target therapy it’s important to see if the same patient is still doing well after so many years, specially it gives hope to the new Lung Cancer patient that Target therapy works for a long time, thank you 🙏
Thank you. I was diagnosed with TNBC, emphysema & a category of a stage 4 lung nodule since a lung biopsy isn’t an option for me. Triple Negative Breast Cancer May have just saved my life. I am on Chemo 5/12. Genomic testing for the BRCA gene mutation result should be available in 3 1/2 weeks. Stay well & May your treatment continue to work for years to come! 💪✊👊👍✌️🤟💕🙏
That is incredible news for you - thank you for your well wishes for Stephen! -Stephanie
I also have stage 4 lung cancer. I was on oral Tarceva for 2 years but stopped being effective. Switched to chemo, now on maintenance Docetaxel 😢, which makes me tired all the time. On my 6th cycle, but on other chemo previously for a total of 15 sessions. I thank God my body still tolerates it. My modules remain the same size
Does Stephen have a positive attitude, or what? That's got to be helping him. I enjoy your channel, Stephanie, thank you for what you're doing.
First viewer!? Nice. Love this channel.
Thank you for the kind words!
How’s he doing today?
Yes. Would be nice to have an update!
Nobody should be guessing if you have certain mutations or not wtf? There is testing for that.
it's all about the mutations now. if you're the %95 with good old fashioned lung cancer you're still screwed
I enjoyed your work a lot. I have been trying to research for an educational RUclips vid similar to yours that really educates everything in this video! 🙌 The knowledge at 1:20 is my favorite. Your explanation for sure reminds me of the videos of Doctor Ethan! Ethan's demonstrations are really helpful and I learned a lot for my midterms.
I recommend you see his channel out and give the doc a like! ➡️ #FutureDrEthan
