Sony made a winner with this and the WXGS920BH.These things are hard to find. Not surprisingly, other companies are not following suit. They know their external amp sales would take a major hit. Sony's mentality is, 'screw it. make the customer happy and loyal.'. Well done, Sony.
If you are using the internal amp to power some new aftermarket speakers, I recommend Skar Audio RPX speakers, you won’t be disappointed. Remember that the internal amp clips at 47/50 so 47 will be your max….if you want to add some bass and done want to use up the trunk or just want bass to add to your speakers for a full sound then I recommend the NVX 10inch Under Seat powered subwoofer rated at 200watts RMS and the enclosure is ported with a built in amp for it. This means that you will set your gains to match the headunit which is volume 47/50 with the EQ Flat. Your Welcome in advance:)
This amp clips at volume 43. I have dsx-gs80. Anything over distorts, you have more power but unclean. RCA out pushes 5v at max volume too, to i suppose it will clip as hell. My one puts out 2.6v at volume 42.to get 5v I had to boost my subwoofer in settings by 5db
I have one and it sound way better than a halo 9 Alpine!!! I was so impressed 😱😱😱, only down side is the 4 channel and sub it us a PSIN IN THE BUT figuring out how to set it up correctly and no help what so ever from Sony helpdesk, so I am using a mono amp and it sound terrific!!!
I can't work out how your supposed to connect these Sony units to Steering Wheel controls. But I will say, these 40wx4 amps, paired with a tiny class D 400wrms amp on a decent subwoofer creates one hell of a lightweight, simple but bloody loud and enjoyable system, purrfect for small lightweight cars. I hooked my mothers Mazda 2 up with the Sony MEX-1000BT, an Alpine PDR-M65 and a 12" Clarion, and holy crap it goes off! And its so efficient which is what you want when your battery is tiny, plus, I put the amp on the sub box all on an electrical connector, remove the lot in 3 seconds flat. I can't exaggerate how loud that car is, and then there's the features, like RBE, it turns the rear speakers into subs to restore sound stage. Sony killed it with this amp.
So if I hooked this radio to (2) 5 1/4" and (2) 1" tweeters that could handle up to 400 RMS, then that's what it could push? Or do 1" tweeters not handle much in RMS watts? Yes, I'm stereo noob. :)

Yes they are ugly imo as well. it appears they remove the aesthetics for performance. In a way you do save money though but not much. Going the cheap rout I'd buy a Kenwood KAC-M3004 amp and a JENSEN CDR462 HU (which has more options) then a SoundBox Connected 8 Gauge Amp Kit. Install everything myself and you're still staying under $300. But all that is the same price if you want to Siriusxm because you don't have to buy a $50 kit for the Jensen and it'll sound better. This is all having an amp in your car. But if your a decent installer you can put the amp where it won't interfere or at least not to much with space especially since it's a mini amp.

Ive got JBL mids and highs that are 3 ohm so as to perform better off factory units and wiring. I power it off my pioneer head unit. I also want and like my big screen. Always these manufacturers seem to miss a feature with their products. Seems like it would be completely easy to make a unit with everything
Hmm.... if this radio actually supported Sony's LDAC or Aptx HD I would seriously consider it.. but as it is without CD and support for a hi res Bluetooth protocol I will pass.. Yes usb can be used for high resolution listening but Sony owns LDAC so I don't understand why it's not included.
All those codecs are still compressed. You will always get the best sound from the USB, and FLAC and WAV's are supported. Honestly, the Sony's downside is the EQ, having only 6dB of gain per band. I got my mother the MEX-1000BT, and cranked to vol46 or even 50 (out of 50) playing a well recorded WAV or FLAC, it sounds REALLY good. So long as your speakers are really good and you don't need to rely on the EQ, the Sony can't be matched, not even close, not with that amp inside..
Can it be bridged to drive 2 speakers at 100W RMS? I have a miata and I'm considering not using the headrest speakers and would like to provide all of the power to the door speakers.
I see ppl 😥on no LDAC. What I will say is that since my mother got an Oppo with BT5.0, the phone connects to the unit when you hit the key, then like 10-15 secs later, the HU goes into source select mode, then wont let you select a source, which means you can't change song, change volume or anything, pressing the select or back button etc doesn't do anything. I think it hates being connected to the newer BT standard, but no probs with my Note 9, so not sure if its an Oppo thing or a BT thing, I'd guess BT tho

This is one of the few units i could see someone paying extra for. 300$+ for a 20w headunit is ridiculous. Android auto can be done on 20$ phones. But I hate android auto anyways.

the amp chip they using can do 100w rms but it needs 24v , sony is already using like 18 to 20v with a boost converter and they can probably do 24v 500w boosting but the stereo will need 40amp fuse , and beefed up cooling , large inductors and boost converter section .

Stock wire, you will need to check the factory fuse size. You may need to run a new power wire.

This stereo literally has no screen so it can't screen mirror, no use for an HDMI and no use with apple carplay because it has no screen

I would go with a set of Skar Audio TX, SK or RPX speakers all are 4ohms and power handling of 30RMS-50RMS
