I remember back in middle school, all the boys in my class wanted to be a "Shikamaru" but could barely solve a math problem.

Your question is actually one of the most hotly debated ones in Naruto. I wont say whether it gets fleshed out more or not, but i will say that, at the end of the day to the villagers he is not just Naruto, he is also the monster who killed their friends, parents, siblings, kids, etc. Grief makes people act rashly and Naruto became the scapegoat for all the feelings these people had. What potentially made it worse was as we saw at the beginning, some people didnt know completely how the seal worked ane believed the fox was possessing him from the start

You're not dumb, Hiruzen the third hokage is a criminal 😂. Had Naruto eating cup noodles and drinking spoiled milk and never told anybody who he is

I love the parallels between Naruto vs Pain and Sasuke vs Itachi here. Both are given a great power to defeat the villain, a power which only happens because of the death of a person close to them, someone whom both would trade that power back in a heartbeat to get who was lost back. Both Naruto and Sasuke have a moment where they lose control and turn into an 8 headed/tailed monster but they are saved by a loved one and the power is resealed. Sasuke vs Itachi is Sasuke discovering an evil man is actually truly good and Naruto vs Pain is Naruto having to explain to a man who purports to be good why what he is doing is actually evil

no one bothering to tell naruto who his dad was is an entire meme in the fandom. you didn’t miss anything, it genuinely is bizarre

  • @lorestiralongo1618

No words for our girl Hinata and her confession is kinda crazy tho.

  • @colibri224

This is where is the meme of the "talk no jutsu" came from.

Naruto vs Pain was probably the highlight of the whole series for me. Because at the end Naruto got something he was craving for his whole life.

idk if you've already seen the episode for Asuma's funeral, i think its 81, i can be wrong, but you must. its mostly anime original and it was done so beautifully and the cinematography is incredible.

  • @FrantifaSuperSoldier

You’re not alone Merphy, the fandom hated this resurrection so much it coined the term “talk no jutsu”

  • @kutami2951

I dunno if you speak of this or if it's one of the clips your patreons showed you, but there is an anime-only scene with Shikamaru and his dad, after Asuma's death that shows him asking his son to play Shogi with him. I won't say anymore if you haven't seen it, but I want to say, that's a scene that added SO MUCH to Shikamaru's relationship with his dad and his feelings towards Asuma and his death, and how he was handling his grief.

I think Pains 'redemption' was kinda like Darth Vaders, it wasnt necessary for the world to know, just the one person to carry on the legacy.

Deidara didn't train his eye to become immune to the sharingan, otherwise everyone would do it, he just trained it to deactivate genjutsu at will, but in order to do that he needs to know he's under a genjutsu, otherwise he won't know when to use it

I actually think Nagato's choice at the end made sense from his character. It wasn't that he didn't want to hope for a better future. It was just that he simply couldn't anymore. Then, when he tried to convince another of Jiraya's students of his cause and the cynical line of thinking that he himself held, he was not only met by resolve from Naruto to keep believing in a greater future for humanity, even after having bore witness to the destruction of most of his village and death of his comrades, but also was reminded of his friend from long ago with the same idealism and the hope that Naruto had. This didn't mean, however, that he could just change back to that optimistic young adult he had been at one point, but when faced with death regardless of what he was going to do after Naruto beat him, he chose not to stick to his guns and give that hope a chance in the form of Naruto. He died a cynic, but one who right at the end chose hope because he didn't have anything to lose by doing so.

Shikamaru being the one to get Naruto out of his slump is my favourite moment in the entire series. I love how it is developed organically. We get to see Shikamaru learn that lesson for himself when Asuma dies; which is why it's so powerful when he imparts that wisdom on Naruto. It's incredible writing.

  • @john-up5nm

I love how kakashi actually helped shikamaru instead of lecturing him like sasuke. shows some of his development

  • @anonymousname5860

It isn’t a subtle message that the Cycle of Hatred destroys peace. I love that Naruto realizes that the only way to undo it is to let the anger for your enemy go, and realize their humanity and the pain they have as well. No one lacks pain, but the answer is never to give into it.

  • @MonkeyDJoshie

You need to keep Naruto and Sasuke’s perspective in mind at all times. Sasuke had parents and lost them, Naruto never had parents and then found out he had a dad. Naruto’s character growth from this afterwards seems very organic to me

  • @jimpavlidis5915

One thing I LOVED in the Naruto and Nagato final scene was when Naruto, after hearing Nagato's story, he still can't found it in him to forgive Nagato. All the rage and pain doesn't just go away. Yet, he choses to trust his master's words, believe in his vision and gains a lot of strength from Jiraya's belief in him. He choses to hold true to his values and stand strong besides his feelings for Nagato and besides his pain. That made the scene more relatable and much more powerful.

  • @medimed4772

i like the parallel of how both itachi and nagato were changed by war, nagato wanting to make everone feel the pain of war, while itachi using any means necessary to avoid inflicting that pain on others.
