    Just got back from Audubon Friday. 4 of us and caught perhaps 140 smallmouth. Targeted rocky areas. Nice fish. Thanks for video it put us on fish. If a cold front and high winds had not been factor there's no telling how many we could have caught. Thanks for video.

    It's just amazing how life works.
    Just yesterday, I was studying Lake Sakakawea and Lake Audubon; I was wondering if Hwy 83 completely separated the two or if they were connected.
    Today, this pops into my videos.
    Thank you, guys.
    I certainly miss Tony but Jason is wonderful too.
    Great North Dakota and South Dakota content.
    Keep up the great work.

      Thanks for the comment. Just to clarify, the Corps pumps water into Audubon in the spring from Lake Sakakawea and than drains water from Audubon back into Sakakawea in the fall. The water levels are kept much more consistent on Audubon. Fish can transfer from one lake to the other but they are pretty much their own ecosystems. Really a fun lake to fish!

    It’s insane to think, but it’s very true. The Bon and Sak are premier Smallie fishery’s! I wouldn’t be surprised to see a major fishing event held on either lake!

    May I ask what your setup was for this video? What type of line and knot do you prefer for tying on a jerk bait? Thanks for the education.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  2 года назад

      Early in the year, I like to run straight ten pound mono Berkley XL and tie with a loop knot. I also switch over to ten pound braid like Fire Line and use that as well. I find that mono can work better in cold water and adverse conditions like cold fronts as it seems like it subdues the bait.

    My nephew lives in Minot so I want to book trip to Audobon. Did you say mid-May to early June is best? Assume that is pre-spawn?

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  3 года назад

      Mid May is usually prespawn and an excellent time if there is stable weather.

    I’ll be in Bismarck Later June and this looks like a good day trip fishing expedition. Later in June are these fish moving to deeper structure? Harder to find?

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  5 лет назад

      They will be on deeper rock and there is also a lot of curly leaf pondweed that holds bass. Find the outside edge.

    What month of the year did you target them on the jerkbaits there ?

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  Месяц назад

      Early to mid May is prime but you can catch them on Jerk Baits all summer.

    What rod are you using? It looks like an older Scheels Pro Angler rod

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  5 лет назад

      +Ridgeley Kraft correct, sharp eye. I like that shorter baitcaster that has that softer action for jerkbaits. Great cheap rod!
