RE: your acceleration test. Next time, unpress the thumb button on the shift lever. Pressing it in keeps it from upshifting. I had a 2009 Sentra, CVT, with over 170,000 miles, zero problems. Loved that car. Maintenance done by the book. I now have a 2019 Sentra, CVT, with 33,000 miles. Initially, not happy with fuel mileage-down on the low 20s. Dealer performed an ECM update, part of a known issue TSB/recall, during the 30,000 mile service. Mileage back up into the 30s like it’s supposed to be. However, this transmission is different than my 09. I prefer the old one where I stomp on the gas, the revs get up to peak power and stay there, and the car accelerated swiftly. This new transmission tries to behave like the old-fashioned multi-speed slush boxes, simulating “shifts” as I accelerate. Nissan said they tried to satisfy those buyers looking for a more “traditional” feel to their transmission.

Sentra transmission is very reliable it only needs someone who understands how to maintain and drive CVT. NO HESSEL. It is getting failed when we treat it like normal automatic gear through our driving style. It needs a soft padel and on time gear oil service. That all.
just bought a 2017 sentra SV. It's definitely different. I had no clue about all these transmission problems. Never driven anything with a CVT transmission. So I wait. Hard to give much credibility to anything when there are so many errors. I don't have a clue who "Jarco" transmissions are, but there is a transmission company called Jatco, which did have issues with CVT's because they did them first...everyone has learned from their mistakes, including them. Second, Nissan and Renault are not merged, in fact the relationship they once had has fallen apart, ever since Carlos Ghosn left the company.
First of all, it's JATCO, not JARCO. I have had my 2017 for nearly 3 years with zero issues. No recalls, no warranty work...nothing. I have averaged 37mpg for the life of the car. I had a Corolla for 2 weeks while my previous car was being repaired from an accident. Rode like a truck and slow...very slow, even compared with the Sentra. The Elantra...thanks, but no thanks. Very cramped and loud car. While Hyundai touts its 10/100 Powertrain warranty, they make you jump through hoops to get anything covered on it.
Lakes Admin sounds like your defending your first car you ever bought it’s ok if you made a terrible purchase decision. But saying a Toyota is not built well you just lost all credibility when talking about cars. Sounds like that accident you said you had was really the transmission 😂.

I called 2 transmission experts and 1 person from nissan, and they said that the transmission problem had been fixed from 2016 but that on some vehicle there could be some problem with the acceleration but that do not break ...
I bought a new 2018 Sentra base model automatic transmission for $13,500 in October of 2018 . I think it was super cheap in price. Has about 32k miles already with no issues. Ok so you don't like the cvt transmission in this. Whats wrong not like a sports car. For a basic driving its nothing wrong with cvt. Less moving parts is better.
@@viralgolwala4590 see my comments at 2:36 but in regards to the CVT transmission... Conceptually they're great! Infinite gearing possibilities, super efficient, but in practice, which is what matters most, they are HORRIBLE! Now, some companies are doing a better job at making the CVTs feel better. They are adding gears and they are managing those gears with software much better to where everyday driving feels and sounds better. You can make a car as efficient as you want, but if it blows a horn all day long as it does it, then people are going to have an issue with it. This is what happens here. CVTs are a very annoying horn on your ear and they do not feel natural, at least not the one in this car.
Congrats to your wife and wish you good luck with it, seriously! They are good value, but please keep an eye out for any transmission weird noises or anything out of the norm. Baba explain to me why in the UAE the roads are invaded by CVT and that you never hear anything about CVT issues here. I just drove a versa/sunny with 150k no issue one of my guy has an altima with 200k on it. Explain to me why in extreme condition such as the UAE tbe cvt are not much of a concern ???? Jatco is sending special top notch trans here, the oil cooler is mega-oversized ???
Just got letter in mail saying there is a settlement for these cars saying that the CVT is bad and they will extend your warranty but I have no warranty and leased the car from a dealer not Nissan so I don't know if I'm f*cked.
What dealer? Follow up with the dealer.
Back in October 2020 traded in my 2007 Sentra SL with 128,000 miles for a 2017 Sentra SV with only 32, 000 miles on it and made sure I got that extented wartanty, last week had to replace the driver side door handle which would have cost $355 for part and labor, just had to pay $100 deductible that was it..
Ain't no point having a safety features on the car if it's going to be in the shop all the time
God of destruction diecast Not once has my 2017 Nissan Sentra ever been in a shop? It’s been getting me from point a to point B for years
Sentra transmission is very reliable it only needs someone who understands how to maintain and drive CVT. NO HESSEL. It is getting failed when we treat it like normal automatic gear through our driving style. It needs a soft padel and on time gear oil service. That all.
just bought a 2017 sentra SV. It's definitely different. I had no clue about all these transmission problems. Never driven anything with a CVT transmission. So I wait. I'm getting it diagnosed next week after a software update was done . If there are errors sent to the new software , I have a reference number and nissan will replace the transmission with a rebuilt one. (They dont put a new one).
But I've also had issues with tire sensors. The yellow caution ⚠️ is maddening!! At any rate and once again just sit and wait.
Toyota/Lexus cvt have been bulletproof SINCE DAY 1. The fabulous Lexus Ls600hL has a cvt.
Corollas had a cvt recall
The 2018 re-designed Camry employs an 8-speed automatic which is having issues. Toyotas are no longer bulletproof.
I agree with you. You are so right. I wish i listened. Also they have problems with the exaust too mention that in next video. I may need get that replaced
On my 3rd transmission just got it back from the dealer today and it’s still broken
Geez... sorry to hear that... is it covered under the warranty at least?
@@Miguelsgarage ya but get real 3 transmissions. That’s not what I paid for. It’s an inconvenience all the way. forget the warranty they can take their shit back lol
If you’re in the states, we have lemon laws. Look into it in your states because it seems to me you would qualify.
I have a 2017 Nissan Sentra with a little more than 184,000 miles on it. I keep my car well maintained, and I haven't needed any major repairs so far. My check engine light came on a few days ago, and I was told I need a transmission AND a catalytic converter. It's still driving fine, so I'll keep an eye on things for now and drive locally.
How many of those 184K miles have you put on it?
@@Miguelsgarage I put 179,000 miles on it. My car had 5,000 miles when I purchased it.
I own a 2017 Sentra. I bought it at 40,000 miles the transmission was acting up around 70,000 miles. I had to replace it, now at 75,000 it went completely out. It was running smoothly no warning signs it just stopped working.
That sucks! Sorry you had to go through that. What are you going to do? Is it still under warranty?
@@Miguelsgarage Yeah it's still under warranty. I was hoping it'll last another five years at least.
@@nsanahtee hopefully it does! I wonder if the last install was done incorrectly. Maybe the oil leaked out or something. It’s weird that it died with no symptoms. Good luck with the next one!!
I got an update, and they said the motor mount broke. Which if I remember correctly the differential disconnected from the motor. I think the transmission is fine though.
@@nsanahtee wow! How did that happen? Crazy to think you would have a catastrophic motor mount failure at 75k miles that would cause the transmission to stop working.
I'm having issues with mine

What happened what year and mileage
@@Anonymous-ji4sb did you drive it like a dumbass
G H did you change your transmission fluid? I started noticing slipping on my transmission at 33,000 miles so I changed my transmission fluid, and that slipping went away, it’s recommend to change it every 30,000 miles
Abraham Guerra is that the only maintenance for the transmission is changing the fluid?
Bought my 2016 with 23000 miles for $6,000. Even if I have to change out a transmission it is still cheaper than all the other cars that were on the lot
Outdoors Nevada Man how did you run away with that car for only $6000? I bought my 2016 with 40k miles for 10k.
Bo Kennedy possibly salvage for him/her?
Fuck I paid 16k for a 2017 at 47k
15000 for 2017 Nissan at 12000 miles
Buy a Sentra today and we will include an extra transmission for free
LOL
Yep true dat.
A friend of mine bought a 2016 Altima . He got a free tranny.
He's right. The transmission sucks . My 2017 sentra transmission went out and I've been renting 2019 sentra and guess that shit suck too
Sorry to hear that. Hope that is still covered under the warranty!
It's not a hot rod. If you drive it gently, you won't have any problems. I have a 2016 with about 75,000 on it and don't have any issues. The best gas mileage for it is about 44.6
How has it been latley
^?
Thanks for this video. I'm thinking twice about my 2015 Sentra thats already giving me problems at 92
72000 miles on the transmission second owner had it flush that's 60,000 miles I plan to flush it every 25 to 30,000 miles the dealer said it should last a long time as long as I'm on top of it like a hawk
Proper maintenance certainly helps!
@@Miguelsgarage I do not accelerate hard I take a good 15 to 20 seconds to get to 60 miles per hour and I do not go above 65 I try to keep my RPMs below 2000
Did he conclude this based on rumors without giving any facts?
Nope there's facts lol
My wife's has 60k miles no problems maybe because we drive it like its a slow car not a race car .
Just bought this car today
C Roe just got this car yesterday
I get close to 50 in my Sentra 47.9 on all interstate on a 500 mile run 52 miles an hour with the cruise control
@@Consolethumbs It actually is the 20th car I purchased.
I want to know if it is safe to buy a manual 2014 nissan sentra or they also have transmission problems like the automatic cvt ones
No
Well I bought my 2017 nissan sentra brand new but I drive for Uber! I have 122k miles already..lol and I need new transmission.$4,000 I'm dropping it off tomorrow..but it has been a great car..
Something else that is in the same price range and class, get a used around 2014-16 VW Jetta SE. The tiptronic Automatic is great, and the engine is a Turbo 1.8 TSI, which is just a slightly lower displaced model of the GLI 2.0TSI, which is a great engine!
And also, that good midpoint between a Corolla and a Camry as far as space
1.8 TSI is garbage.
@@atx-cvpi_99 it's not particularly powerful, but fuel economical, and so far, 150k and all I've done is change the fuel and air filter and change the oil. Just get a 2014 or newer to not get the timing chain issues of previous generation engines.
Cvt is not a very good switch has problems with the transmision
2016 Nissan Sentra SR!! I got 136k miles CVT went out. Paid 14k for it and the transmission was 4K. Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla is the way to go.
2017 is actually a good year dont buy nothing under 2017 though
You sure?
@ziarmmal is my instagram. Join me for a lawsuit against nissan
Does that mean I got one that is not going to break down from the transmission? I’m getting worried now. Do the problems start early in the mileage or even after many miles of no issues?
Victoria M Just change your transmission fluid every 30,000 miles, you should be fine

My nissan transmission sucks and its at his 40000 bad choice plus the dealer keeps saying it's all good 🤬
Ary, I like the style in the 2016 Sentra but is the cvt really that bad? Got to look cool.
Check Recalls, some have no solution. Also NHSTA has a lot of letters on file about the brakes.🚗
These newer nissans were made and manufactured in i think mexico or china. The quality became cheaper. Where as the 90's models were as reliable as the 90's hondas and toyotas. Within just 10+ years, the mid 00's models are already rusting, and breaking down. The cvt transmissions are garbage.
I love nissans, but i'm disappointed in these "newer" ones.
Nissan is aware of the CVT issue and has agreed to a settlement. Not all Nissan's are affected, and are a decent product otherwise. topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/consumer-products/auto-news/931402-nissan-transmission-class-action-settlement/
Cvts are for lease guys, not for anybody planning on owning one for 10 years plus 300000 or 400000. They have ruined a lot of good cars

@@Miguelsgarage you give a review of a used rental car. Buy a car or lease it then give a review.
viral golwala I understand your concern now... however, this car was practically new. It had just 26,000 miles and drove and smelled like new as well... trust me, there were no issues with the car mechanically or electric. The CVT on it is just pure crap! 💩
