- The Annual Christmas Carol Service, sung by the Harvard University Choir, is America’s oldest carol service. In 1910, the newly appointed University and Choirmaster, Archibald T. Davison, and Plummer Professor of Christian Morals, Edward C. Moore, devised the first annual Christmas Carol Service for Harvard University. The liturgy they prepared has remained virtually unchanged since: three lessons from scripture, interspersed with choral and congregational carols, beginning with “Adeste, fideles” sung in Latin. Over a century later, this service continues to be a cherished part of the festive season for the Harvard and Cambridge communities. A voluntary collection following each service will benefit the Y2Y Harvard Square, a youth homeless shelter in Cambridge. Program: bit.ly/3B1hUe4
It is so refreshing to hear the words of appreciation for the organist conductor choiresters and musicians. Often, senior pastors simply take us for granted.
Thank you for singing the Judith Weir piece, which was commissioned in memory of my father, John Yarrow (1935-2017). Very moving to hear it so beautifully played and sung. Stephen (Dover, UK)
Colorado Springs, Colorado loves Harvard.
Thank goodness in my parish, we remain seated to reflect and enjoy the organ postlude.
I attended during my wonderful years at Harvard College & graduate school.
This is such a powerful organ, it's a shame you don't pull out more of the stops to show it's true sound.
