Momma of a short family here. Teaching myself how to hem pants with youtube videos. Of course I started with a pair of lined carthartts!! This video was very helpful. Thank you!
You are just the BEST teacher! Such clear, articulate explanations and perfect close-up video. Thanks!
This was a great video. Jeans are such a thick challenge. I have also found if you cut out the area where the seam is and then fold up your hem you are then only needing to go through the 6 layers instead of 9. I have made many Levi’s into shorts for my BIL and when I took apart a hem on an existing pair of pants I found that was what they did! Those wedge ideas were great! I have the wedge “Jean-a-ma-jig” that my mom bought over 25 years ago.
Excellent video on sewing thicker seams! Great solutions to a common problem. Thank you so much, I always learn from your videos.
The very very video on sewing with denim. So thankful 👍🏼😉
That is so clever. I thought my machine was just not strong enough. I am going to try this
OMG best demo ever! You are officially the Denim Queen. Thank you for the homemade tool tips. Inevitably you start a project and need to finish, no time to order or run to buy a premade tool.
Hey, this was really helpful! I never thought that using a wedge could solve this. In my case I used a popsicle stick and it did the trick. You are awesome!
Thank u so very much! I have been sewing for 50 years and hemming jeans have always been a problem
Great lesson. I knew to put the gadget behind the needle but I have never seen it used for top stitching. Thanks.
This was such a great and needed video!!! I was using my tool, to get over a seam, all wrong, putting it IN FRONT of my foot instead of in the back - up against the seam. Plus, now I can sew along side a seam. Thank you SO MUCH for this video!!!
Great timing, my friend asked me to mend her jeans, with your explanation I can! She was convinced that she would have to throw them away until I showed her the repair on a pair of mine. I had to hand sew those!!!!! So much ea
sier to use my machine!
Brilliant!! Thank you, Laura. As always, clear and relevant.
I have scraps of fabric that I put under the foot over thick seams. For denim, I use denim, flannel, I use flannel. I fold it to the same thickness of the seams, works every time. For really heavy denim, I use a hammer to flatten the seams.
I bought myself the denim foot and use it a lot but with the addition of the seam guides to help over thick seams it becomes a game changer. Great tips thank you. Clearly demonstrated.
Thank you so much for this! You're the Best Teacher! Greetings from South Africa
Great instructions, thank you!
You're so good as explaining these useful details! I watched another video you did on this topic a while ago, and have used various homemade versions-- really helpful! I call them "risers".
Ha, I have often wondered how to use this tool properly! Wow, so easy, thank you for another great tip!
Outstanding tutorial! THANK YOU LAURA!
Thank you Laura. 😍👍👏👏👏That was so helpful. 🥰😘🇦🇺❤
Laura, you give great tips. Thank you!!!
Laura: This us such awesome knowledge to have. Not long ago I learned the fabric option from someone👏👏👏. Recently I was altering my sons pants, in a pinch for time of course- my husband and son were in the room waiting. I kept saying ughh I need a hump jumper lol, scrambling for a thick enough piece of material! AHHAAAAA I found one and got so excited. My guys were just dumbfounded when I was explaining,😳🤔😝🤣🤣🤣. Well one of those moments ya just had to be there🤪. Thank you so much for all you do for us on your channel ❤️😀
Thank you so very much, not sure my Janome has a denim foot. I sew with denim all the time as i make bags and other goodies….this was so good to know. Have an awesome day/night xxx
Thanks for providing this very helpful video. I am in the process of hemming jeans and this video will ease the stress.
Who knew? Great tips..thanks.
Thank you, Laura!!!
Great, clear video!
Thank you. I really needed that info. I do a lot of jeans repair for all my family. I willput this info to good use.😊
So great tips
Know more about it
And know how to solve this issue
Really helpful and thanks
Love your videos. I always learn so much. Thanks Laura
It would have been so helpful to discuss what length of stitch and tension when sewing denim.
great tip i love it
Good tutorial. I like your scarf, very attractive on you. Your machine sure has a large number of different feet which is a nice feature.
Would you do a video on binding. What width and why. I have seen single double flange and so many different widths. Please explain which one to use and when. I would really appreciate it
My machine has a hinged foot, so the front goes up but the back of the foot stays level. It's an amazing solution that creates perfect stitches. That said, I still love this tutorial, because I like to know how things work.
What make and model is your machine with the hinged foot?
@@carolynnscoffield440 I have the Brother PQ1500SL. It's a single-stitch, high shank, heavy duty machine, not very expensive but has all the wonderful feet you could desire, including the hinged basic foot.
Thank you, Lora!
Brilliant!
Thank you
This was great ! Thank you
Genius ❤
I have being sewing for over 30 years (having started out making my own clothing, including my wedding dress, and am making more quilts over the years) and I always seem to have issues hemming jeans. I just hemmed 5 pairs of stretch denim jeans and was trying to figure out if I should use a jeans needle or stretch. I ended up using stretch and the hems turned out pretty good but I am still curious if that was the best needle to use. I used foam under my pressure foot to even it out.. What do you think?

Thank you for the video ...where did you get your pieces of plastic please
What are those plastic scraper like tools called?
I just use a hammer to flatten the denim; works really well.
This tutorial came a bit to late next time I know what to do
