"Hey May, how the hell are you swimming on land?" "I have no idea, Flannery! I was doing some sick bounces on my acro bike, and I somehow glitched through the land when near the Fortree River and now I can surf on it! Call Professor Birch ASAP!"

Part of the fun of these videos for me is trying to figure out which step of the preparation phase is going to cause the most pain in trying to escape a potential softlock, but I was thrown for a loop since this uses a glitch I didn't know about. Thankfully, I've seen enough of these to know that A) having a team of level 100 Pokemon with only attacking moves means that there's a battle we probably need to lose, B) having Intimidate means switching Pokemon in and out will take even longer, and C) having shiny Pokemon will disincentivize starting a new save (it also adds an extra animation while switching). Also, with how specific of a glitch this used, I'm kinda surprised that it was caught in time to patch it out of other versions of the game.
I love to think about this from Winoana's perspective trying to figure out why they came in with 6 traded shiny level 100 gyarados only to try and intentionally lose in a battle that takes 2 hours
I love that moment in all your soft lock videos of trying to figure out what the trap is this time around and having that moment of slowly dawning horror everytime realizing just how devious this trap is, only for it to then turn out even more horrific then I originally thought. Like here when I realized you'd be trapped in an un-losable battle, only for the switching and later disobedience mechanic to come in and make everything even worse. Brilliant
This series continues to get better with time. This is such a cool tidbit, the fact that you can use the acro bike to surf on land, and it's used for such a dastardly setup. It's perfect.
Whenever I see one of these videos, I always wonder what a speedrun of this would look like. I know you give us the estimated times for the pseudo-softlocks, but I honestly think it'd be very funny if someone actually tried to do this at some point as a sort of meme speedrun.
I LOVE the commitment to "give them all Leftovers". It's the most pointless thing, "we can just remove the leftovers before we try anything", but it's the _principle_ of it! If anything, we could lean even more on the idea that most people _aren't_ going to go through all the setup and just start the battle, only realizing "oh, shit, i need to change my settings" and then "oh this is NOT doable if i have leftovers, wait, i need to take those off", which really adds that little bit extra. It's the seasoning to our absurd dish here that really does it for me. 👌
Oh, no. Think about it: Leftovers HEAL. Which means that if we don't remove them, it's possible we can't lose at all. So it's not pointless that it's leftovers.
They will have met the final boss. The power of annoyance and dragging ass semi efficiently. Truly terrifying. On a serious note it would be pretty cool.
The final turn’s actually a guaranteed loss. Altaria will have used all its Dragon Dance PP, so with a raw Speed stat of 73 (sourced from speedrunning documents), it’ll reach 292 Speed at +6. Gyarados’s max Speed is 287 with a perfect IV, 252 EVs, and a +Spe nature. Even if those numbers were a little off, the paralysis (which cuts Speed by 75%) would absolutely guarantee that Altaria outspeeds. You can actually see at 11:16 that Altaria KOs Gyarados without any additional text box for full para or disobedience. I love these videos, but I’m always fascinated by the blind spots that even super knowledgeable people have.
I think this one is my favorite. Just short enough people might actually be willing to do the hard work. Active enough that you can't mindless your way through. And puts the only real chance in the run to the very last turn.
Gawd I love these Soft Lockpicking vids. Honestly, the insane situations people manage to find and put you in, AND the fact you actually test the soft locks out..... just, that's commitment mate. *claps* I couldn't do it, that's for sure. Either way, I look forward to whenever the next one comes out. No matter how many months it takes. They are always 100% worth it.
Indeed. Though it must have taken quite a bit of time to get not just 1, but 6 Shiny Magikarp, evolve them, get all of them to level 100, and teach them each move specifically to set this all up. It is stuff like this that makes his videos take so long. Good to see you dude.
@@enderluckjarmg985 Yeah getting the Pokemon doesn't take too long however, it still takes real time to actually get to the point he needs to while not screwing up the setup. Then there's the research and testing he has to do for consistency and estimates for how long it'd take roughly to escape or attempts to.
I never realized how nostalgic that opening jingle is. This was a great week for your channels, I hope this momentum carries forward deep into this year
I love not just the diabolical ability to come up with these scenarios, but I also admire the effort in pain that you put yourself through to actually record the scenarios. Well done.
Good video, but couple things I believe you got wrong: You can absolutely guarantee that 5 Gyarados get endeavored (?), you just have to switch between two Gyarados, and the moment one of them gets hit with endeavor, you stop sending that one in against the swellow and just switch between the other and a new one, and so on until you get bit with endeavor 5 times Also, by the time your final gyarados has to attack vs altaria, you'd probably be paralyzed and it'll be at +6 speed, so it's definitely faster than you, it will just struggle and kill you, no rng involved
Yeah I was confused by the endeavor part too. I looked it up and apparently Endeavor has 100% accuracy so I'm left wondering why he's explaining it as if getting hit 3 times by it is some rare occurrence you need to pray for.
I love this series!! I'm in college now but I remember watching it in high school and it still invokes all the same interest and memories for me. I hope you keep finding soft locks like these! Thanks, Pikasprey Yellow!
it's always a treat to see a new soft lock video, they're as genius as they are delightfully cruel, and every time I think it can't get any better/worse, you prove me wrong again! we love to see it!

What chaos is in store this time?" *watches* "Huh, doesn't seem too bad so far if you're still allowed money" *glitch-surfs onto land* "...ok, I can see where this is going" *ends up south of Winona's gym* "Ohhhhh..." *battle is explained* "OHHHHHHHH.... OH NO" *says how long it can take and even the last part is no guarentee* ".........dude, this is just straight-up evil. And also the very content I subscribed for" Seriously, I friggin' love these things. Another nice video!
Pikasprey: this diabolical trap has you with 6 shinies named AAAAAA, the player will be in a torturous situation where they can't reset if they want the shinies! Muahahaha! Me: *resets because I don't want a pokemon with the name "AAAAAA" that I can't change*
If Altaria is at +6 speed from using all its Dragon Dances and the last Gyarados has been paralyzed, doesn't the Alraria move first? It looks like that's what happens at 11:15. Also (and this could obviously be changed in the setup) if one of the damaging moves is Frustration, could the player just run around for long enough to reduce Frustration's power to 1, letting Winona's Pokemon survive a few hits? Running around to raise something's friendship from min to max would honestly be a pretty killer softlock picking mechanic.
I liked your self promotion at the end! It was cozy and tasteful. I've been watching vods of your pikmin 251 and others after I watched all of your Fool's Gold series. Great content
I think in the video you said "selling all your items doesn't matter", but it will matter if the user has pokeballs. They can use pokeballs to stall at the end instead of gambling if your pokemon obeys you or not. edit: as others have pointed out, he mentioned at 2:20 to throw away any items. my bad. once again pikasprey proved goofballs like me wrong who have zoomer brain attention span
To make this (or really any near-softlocks where you have to white out to escape) extra cruel, you can not use a single Pokémon Center ever in your playthrough so they respawn back at the start of the game. Also, for extra fun, make sure each Gyarados has maxed out their HP and defende EVs.
The idea of this video is the type of scenarios i used to make as a kid to make someone suffer. i cant believe theres a channel dedicated to it lmao. Awesome stuff!
Just imagine how Winona feels seeing this all happen. Some kid shows up in her gym with 6 Pokémon that are WAY too strong, and...he just keeps switching them out. She might think at first that he's just being indecisive, but then she sees that they're all the EXACT SAME POKÉMON. Then when she finally whittles him down to the last Pokémon, he orders them to attack, and they just DON'T. So she finally KO's them, and he just blacks out. I'd like to think that she had one of her Pokémon fly him to the Center.
If you catch those Gyriados yourself on the same save file, then the chance of you escaping would truly be the 50% of the paralysis and you couldn't rely on disobeying anymore.
i start kicking my feet whenever im watching a pikasprey soft lock video and he says "i think you all know where im going with this" and then i know where hes going with this
Something I love about Pikasprey softlock/escape room vids is that moment in *every single one*, when I realise where all his setup is going and my mouth physically drops open in abject horror. 😂 (This time, it was the point where I realised you'll at some point end up with only one conscious Gyarados and...what that means for the player.) Great video as always! 😊
This one is amazing, and I always enjoy how shinies serve the dual purpose of a) wasting more time with the shiny animation and b) incentive not to just reset
After about 1 or 2 years, a pikasprey video finally shows up on my recommended, reminding me how much i love these videos. Good to see youre doing well
Awesome video as usual! This soft lock is like the perfect storm,; not only is it pretty unique from the other ones you've shown because you have to lose a battle (instead of normally winning to escape) there's also the final turn RNG. Finally if you DO manage to escape you're rewarded a team of shiny max level Gyarados to cruise through the rest of the game!
"I've tested this." The fact that you not only come up with, but also fully experience these torture situations is insanity. Thank you for the hilarity at your own expense again!
I just really appreciate the dedication of not only creating such scenarios, but then also showing them off by going through the process of removing the softlock.

I always love it when he knows he can tweak a few things to make it a true softlock (i.e. beating Winona before saving), but decides to give just the smallest glimmer of hope to up the evilness of the lock
Looking at his "ludicrously long and tedious battle" softlocks and his "absurd RNG" softlocks, Pikasprey was left to wonder what to do next.
At that moment, inspiration struck.
i think this is my favorite lock of yours so far. each realization hits like a brick...
"Hey May, how the hell are you swimming on land?"
"I have no idea, Flannery! I was doing some sick bounces on my acro bike, and I somehow glitched through the land when near the Fortree River and now I can surf on it! Call Professor Birch ASAP!"
Gotta love how these have slowly transformed from genuine gamebreaking softlocks to sadistic Saw traps
Not even John Kramer is this evil
This is diabolical. Absolutely devious. A most heinous endeavor. Glad to be a long term subscriber!
God I love this series. Your dedication, thoroughness, and ability to keep finding new softlocks is incredible. One of the best series on youtube
Falling off a ricketty bridge will trap people in a haunted forest, and people think they need to write creepypasta about Pokemon.
It's your fault for surfing a fat-ass Water Pokémon on a small rope bridge 😂
"You could start a new game and get back to Fortree before you could lose to Winona"
Yeah but could you get six shiny Gyarados before then? Not likely
Getting 6 Shiny Gyarados doesn't take that long with a copy of HGSS tho

Wake up babe, new soft lock-picking video dropped
Brilliant
Imagine setting up another pseudo softlock when they respawn at the last pokécenter.
Pikasprey creating an escape room for other pokétubers to escape from would be 🔥🔥🔥
They will have met the final boss.
The power of annoyance and dragging ass semi efficiently.
Truly terrifying.
On a serious note it would be pretty cool.
DO IT PIKASPREY DO IT!!!!
08:38: I reckon some folks are mixing that up with Colosseum and XD's "CALL" mechanic.
These videos are pure art. It's so unique seeing someone create a puzzle instead of solve one
I really like these and I finally figured out why. It’s a reverse speedrun and you’re a master of your craft.
Random citizen: “so why is Winona the gym leader?”
Other citizen: “she once beat 6 level 100 Gyarados with a bunch of level 30 birds.”
true legend to actually sit through the pain of switching to show us how long it took

This was a great week for your channels, I hope this momentum carries forward deep into this year
Pokemon Desert Bus Version
I love not just the diabolical ability to come up with these scenarios, but I also admire the effort in pain that you put yourself through to actually record the scenarios. Well done.
Good video, but couple things I believe you got wrong:
You can absolutely guarantee that 5 Gyarados get endeavored (?), you just have to switch between two Gyarados, and the moment one of them gets hit with endeavor, you stop sending that one in against the swellow and just switch between the other and a new one, and so on until you get bit with endeavor 5 times
Also, by the time your final gyarados has to attack vs altaria, you'd probably be paralyzed and it'll be at +6 speed, so it's definitely faster than you, it will just struggle and kill you, no rng involved
Babe wake tf up new softlock picking!
it's always a treat to see a new soft lock video, they're as genius as they are delightfully cruel, and every time I think it can't get any better/worse, you prove me wrong again! we love to see it!
Truly one of the most painful "Are you winning son" you could ever get.
*sees video* "Oh great, a new one! And also the very content I subscribed for"
Seriously, I friggin' love these things.
Yes, Altaria definitely outspeeds Gyarados
oh man time to get stuck again with a sadistic way to get out yayayyaya

I liked your self promotion at the end! It was cozy and tasteful. I've been watching vods of your pikmin 251 and others after I watched all of your Fool's Gold series. Great content
We need speedrun categories of these soft locks
Player: "Wynona, just kill me already!"
Wynona: "I'm trying!"
I mean, why don't you just ask her to let you out? It's not like she's in on it. 👀
Yea but at 2:23 he does say to throw them away
No, he said get rid of all your items, and MONEY doesn't matter.
You didn't pay attention
To make this (or really any near-softlocks where you have to white out to escape) extra cruel, you can not use a single Pokémon Center ever in your playthrough so they respawn back at the start of the game.
Also, for extra fun, make sure each Gyarados has maxed out their HP and defende EVs.
I'm a simple man. i see a soft lock pick, i click.
Absolutely diabolical
The idea of this video is the type of scenarios i used to make as a kid to make someone suffer. i cant believe theres a channel dedicated to it lmao. Awesome stuff!
It’s amazing how much duct tape these games were made with back then
Just imagine how Winona feels seeing this all happen.
If you catch those Gyriados yourself on the same save file, then the chance of you escaping would truly be the 50% of the paralysis and you couldn't rely on disobeying anymore.
paralysis only triggers 25% of the time. although it certainly doesn't feel like it
@@rhysdog8600 Yeah, 25% for full paralysis, I had it confused with the 50% speed drop.
@@RGC_animationthe speed drop is also to 25% in gen 3
i start kicking my feet whenever im watching a pikasprey soft lock video and he says "i think you all know where im going with this" and then i know where hes going with this
Babe wake up
New softlockpicking just dropped
Who is this, babe? And why are they always sleeping?
Something I love about Pikasprey softlock/escape room vids is that moment in *every single one*, when I realise where all his setup is going and my mouth physically drops open in abject horror. 😂
(This time, it was the point where I realised you'll at some point end up with only one conscious Gyarados and...what that means for the player.)
Great video as always! 😊
Who would think selecting "run" would pass your turn???
It does waste your turn in some other turn-based RPGs (especially older ones) so it's not the most unreasonable assumption
This one is amazing, and I always enjoy how shinies serve the dual purpose of a) wasting more time with the shiny animation and b) incentive not to just reset
After about 1 or 2 years, a pikasprey video finally shows up on my recommended, reminding me how much i love these videos. Good to see youre doing well
Very cool unique one of a kind content. No one does what you pioneered pikasprey. 💯
swear to god your soft lock picking videos are my favorite pokemon content on the internet
you're awesome man, thanks for doing the good work
i was JUST rewatching a bunch of softlock picking videos yesterday, this is perfect timing and i am hype
"I've tested this."
The fact that you not only come up with, but also fully experience these torture situations is insanity.
Thank you for the hilarity at your own expense again!
The tenacity... Insane! Well done. You're my favorite RUclipsr.
Well done, this is just fantastic. This is indeed the most evil setup I've seen you find. Bravo.
I just really appreciate the dedication of not only creating such scenarios, but then also showing them off by going through the process of removing the softlock.
This is some of my favorite content on RUclips. I only wish I haven't seen all of your videos or I'd have more to watch haha
I literally just came back yesterday to check if there was any new softlockpicking videos. I am so happy to be updated
This series always makes my day. Never stop finding ways to break these games in the most diabolical ways imaginable!

If nothing else just know that you bring this one youtube person so much joy when you post. Thank you so much for doing what you do, and bringing a smile to my face. Keep up the good work my man!
For the final turn at 10:35, is it possible that Altaria with six Dragon Dances outsped your paralyzed Gyarados, which is why it went first?
Currently sick with the flu and unable to sleep, it's nice to see another soft lock picking video, I think i'm gonna make some tea and watch this ^^

Second to the smeargle playthrough you did. I neee to watch that again
I gasped when this showed up in my feed. Hands down best show on the Internet. Hope you're well.

I like this. It's not as long as some of the other softlocks, but the insanity required to get out is on a completely different level. Others like this please!
LOVED this one. Cool to see getting stuck without glitches, but I really dug how specific this one was!
