- Went into this movie having heard they did some questionable stuff with Frankie. Got slapped upside the head with the Draculaura plot twist at the last second. Can't say I appreciated that.

This is a small issue but it's not Marie Curie but Maria Skłodowska Curie. When she was alive she would use her mother's surename along her husband's because she was proud of being Polish. As the first Polish female noble winner she's a very important figure for our country and it grinds a lot of poles gears when her name is pronounced incorectly and her polish surename removed. It's kind of a wider issue where people just don't want to go through the effort of trying to pronounce polish names correctly because they're too weird or something, so they change them, say them badly or just erase them. While it's not a big deal I just wanted you to know for the future if you're ever talking about Poland for some reason lmao.
yeah, it was jarring in the vid here with the full name on the grave in the picture, like, it's there for a reason! I'll take every bad pronounciation over completley erasing that part of her, especially considering the history

I can see that from a real-life perspective, but from an entertainment perspective, it might be difficult to find an American actor who can correctly pronounce Polish words. I've heard people complain about a show like "Grimm" that uses German words but doesn't pronounce them properly.
At least this stupid and frankly bigoted twist isn't part of the narrative in the animated show.
The dichotomy between how sensitive issues are handled in the animated series over the live-action movies is certainly striking, where one sees the opportunity to treat disability in fiction with care, the other seeks to poke fun at the disabled for the amusement of NT's and the ableds, where the animated series is openly queer, the movies attempt queer-coding, chicken out, and turn it into a bigoted narrative modelled after transphobic and generally queerphobic rhetoric.
While the animated series is diffently better-it also has similier issues to the films
Such as frankies brain being made of “the greatest geniuses”, its not only an issue due to what oakyrm stated but if ill be honest to me it comes off as eugenics-“only accepting brains from the greatest”

Interestingly, I find that Chinese shows do a better job at queer coding its characters. China does have strict censorship laws regarding LGBT content, but I've seen relationships that could be the gay equivalent of a Disney Renaissance love story if they just added a couple of kissing scenes. Then again, most of the ones I've seen are adapted from novels.
Definitely proof that the films have an entirely different team of writers. You can't look at these two continuities and say they're from the same people.

That groomer thing is extra rough,,, and the whole thing with frankie i just,, even ignore the body parts stuff,, just how they treat their character is,, it feels so hella ablist in the worst ways
The nerrative that the coven head gave Draculaura the book also doesn’t make sense considering draculaura is significantly older than her. So she wouldn’t even be alive when draculaura was a “child”
This movie felt like “Clawdeen and Draculaura: The Movie! .... oh yeah and also Frankie is there sometimes.” Frankie really felt like a forgotten third wheel in this movie.
First movie was more about Clawdeen, second one about Draculaura, and you Can see it at the end of the movie; Third movie will be about Frankie
@@clawdmoviemonster I get that, but it made Frankie feel like an afterthought as a character. The movie focused a lot on Clawdeen and Draculaura's relationship while Frankie was just kinda... there. It didn't feel like they were a trio of friends. It felt like Clawdeen and Draculaura were friends and Frankie was a third wheel. I think the first movie balanced the three characters a lot better while still allowing the focus to be on Clawdeen.
You know the writing’s bad when the characters are getting flanderized by the first sequel.

It feels so uncomfantable to have frankie flaunt about how their brain is made out of “the greatest genuises” what happened to them just being a blank slate like g1?? That was fine & made for an interesting character
The whole “witches actually ARE evil” plot was also equally terrible :/ i remeber even asking my mom why would they pull that after spending the entire film telling us witches are misunderstood & no different then monsters
Don't forget the one moment Toralei and Clawdeen share towards the end of the movie. Such a flash of queer-spark then back to Straight-only Clawdeen?

Goddd yeah. Like Clawdeen has such strong chemistry with both Draculaura and Toralei at the end but we're supposed to believe she's actually into Deuce? Press X to doubt.
Both Deuce and Clawdeen act like friends trying to force the romance because their other friends insist they're cute together. So cringe...
Dont forget the fact that the show bible for the cartoon stated clawdeen is in fact a lesbian in g3-as well as the fact that we are going to get a g1 pride month comic featuring clawdeen(whom sanders confirmed as a lesbian) dating toralei (whom is also a lesbian)
It feels so insulting, i dont like how we still cant have g3 clawdeen & toralei date in the cartoon (even tho clawdeen is confirmed to be a lesbian) and only get hints instead yet we can have clawdeen & deuce make out in the movies
@@Man-wolf- plus their dynamic is fun visually considering their species and colours. One is primarily purple and tge other primarily orange, two colours that don't usually work together, but rarely can work together pleasantly

Hi, for Marie Curie, might i suggest that you say Maria Skłodowska-Curie in the future? She wanted to have her Polish heritage known and preserved, and it's a damn shame people have ignored her wishes and erased her Polish identity to make it more French instead

I can't believe that I somehow completely wiped this film from my brain??? I saw the title of this video and thought, "there's a Monster High 2??? When did that come out and more importantly why was I not informed???" And then while watching the video, I started to realise that I'd actually seen it.
Whaaat, I didn't even know there was a live action Monster High. I'll always stick with the animation, though.
I personally prefer the first generation. It stuck more to the folkloric aspect of the characters.

Did they just use "broom closet" to describe a character not being open as a witch? Like, actual witches/pagans use that as our word to describe being in the closet, almost always to avoid discrimination. Like, I understand that there's no chance they knew that, but still, it's a term an actual minority uses to describe being closed about beliefs to avoid systemic and personal bigotry.

Is me of the movie is also pale in the literal way? I mean, is okay if you dont use a bright color palete, and of course what they did to the characters is worst. But the hairs make me so uncomfortable, they look like washed out grocery store dye. Really washed out in some cases. Isn’t it supposed to be healthy natural magic hair? Like they made the color palette les bright to make it seem more real but in the cheapest way possible.
Is Frankie canonically meant to be autistic in this reboot? As an autistic person, I've kind of been reading them as autistic-coded, but idk if I'm projecting.
I headcannon g1 frankie as autistic and if you look at g1 you can see why so it only makes sense she would be autistic coded in the reboot.
I have adhd and thought the same thing. They seem incredibly autistic. They could easily make good autistic representation for the opposite side of the spectrum (from Twyla, who’s canonically autistic, but experiences it differently)
Embarrassingly I am too ditsy to even notice what they where doing with the plot until you pointed it out

I watched the cartoon after one of your previous videos on it, and I greatly enjoyed it! hearing you talk about the movies leaves me with zero interest (also I think half the character designs look bad. especially clawdeen)

Honestly on the topic of the costuming in the live action movies... Would it kill them to match Heath's face to his neck like, once? He looks like he's wearing the wrong shade of foundation every time he steps on screen.

I was planning on watching this movie with my sister, but she kept pushing it back that we ended up just not watching it, which is why I took so long to watch this. Genuinely glad to know what I'm not gonna like in the movie before I decide to watch it myself, loved the video 💕💕💕
We also have to mention the scene near the end where Toralie caresses Clawdeen's new scars. Like nothing about that tiny scene is straight!
I personally just think of these as separate universes. It’s kinda like decendants and the decendant cartoon.

Compare twylas autism with frankies. Twyla is accepted, accomodated for, and welcomed despite her differences. Frankie is made fun of by the narrative and by other characters.

If you do not want any possible spoilers for Monster High season 2-3, don’t read further, but apparently months back the show bible leaked, and everything so far matches up very well, though apparently Clawdeen is supposed to be in a relationship with another girl? The movies really just feel like they took all the queer representation out in order to spread a bad message. I feel like I heard something about the director of the films being a racist too? I have no clue if that’s true or not, but gosh they really are doing the films so wrong, they made Frankie just to non-binary token character who is just there for repeat points, and to be honest as a non-binary person I feel insulted. If you don’t know how to write someone who is non-binary, why not ask the very actor portraying them? I’m sure they have a ton of experiences that would be really cool to explore in a new way.
The director made one of the most racist films called “Krippendorf's Tribe”
The mh film itself has racist aspects too-just look at clawdeens & cleos casting, their played by women who are lightskinned when they are darkskinned
The movies had the potential to be genuinely good, but they fall short on all accounts. At least the show TRIES to be sensitive.

Tbh i always had an issue with the movies having a different continuity from the animated series-espically because the movies were the first thing we saw from g3 , its not like g1 vs g3 where their completly different generations this is the SAME generation yet for some reason they just cant bother keeping the continuity the same?? It makes things confusing

I agree with the lot of things you said when it comes to showing How they treat Frankie in the animated series and the live action. Now, this is my bias opinion.but I'm a sucker for dark Lore I feel like they're choosing. For Frankie's mind and body is a little questionable. It can be good and it can be bad.I just can't see a Frankenstein story without a little grave robbing.😂 Especially if it's Greenish blue skin.I do feel like the live action should be more for adults and the cartoon should be for kids.and tweens Who are future horror fans Long story short, don't do a dark story. And be afraid to get dark.

I haven’t seen any of Monster High and I never had any of dolls or anything but as far as I understand it the creator said that Clawdeen was intended (at least at some point) a lesbian but that’s not the case in the current generation-I’m glad we still have Frankie as a Non-Binary lesbian or sapphic but I still wish we could’ve had lesbian Clawdeen! Except that many neopagans, mainly in Europe and North America, and veritable loads of followers of multiple indigenous religious/spiritual beliefs all around the world definitely call themselves and/or their spiritual guides witches or a similar word in each local vernacular.
Wicca is only one such belief system and not even the biggest. I know a few witchcraft practitioners in meatspace and all but one describe themselves along these lines: "I am a witch but not Wicca."
