I love my fridge for longer trips in our SUV and definitely would like to make a slider system as we need to keep all the seats intact. Thanks for running through pros and cons.

Thanks, good work on the slider. I am a thrifty and simple guy, too, so my question is: do I really need a fridge? I still use a cooler. And can the fridge only run when it is getting juice from the engine alternator, or do you use a separate battery? Thanks, and yes I am really this thrifty and behind the times.

A cooler certainly is a good way to go, but just the same, a "cooler" slide could be helpful for packing. I felt it was worth the $300 for the fridge over the long run. Just dealing with the ice, especially on long trips was not fun. (again, not lazy but "adverse to unnecessary tasks") You have to plug the fridge into a "always on" power source. I just use one from the truck. If you do not drive at least an hour a day you can drain your battery. The very few occasions I don't drive every day, I do use my battery backup.
