      Might be something psychological too, like it feels weird or you feel insecure when being filmed rather than just dancing for yourself in a mirror. If that’s the case then I think that’s perfectly natural and you’ll hopefully get used to it eventually! I notice for myself that I think too much when I dance for a camera, because it feels almost like a test and I have to do better, so I end up looking very bad in general when dancing, sometimes even overthink to the point that I forget moves. But it’s just another stepping stone, whatever the reason is for you, good luck and don’t beat yourself up if your dancing isn’t as good as you hope, if you keep practicing you might just end up improving without even noticing it!

      my experience as a pianist and violinist is that while performing on stage, we only showcase our skills to at most 95%, and most people will only showcase 70%. I'm comfortable enough with my skills on the piano, but dancing? nononono if a single shadow moves while I'm dancing I swear I literally teleport to the nearest shadow-free location instantly from performance anxiety. :( that being said all of these tips apply to basically anything performance-related and they're all good advices.

    Ellen and Brian are literally the best kpop dancers and "tutorial peoples"- they always remind people that there are certain details that change, dancing styles are all different, and you don't have to follow one member as well. They rarely miss details too (still watch the og dance practice tho). And did I mention how freaking talented they are? If I need to learn a dance I go straight to them.

However, I've seen massive dance improvement over a few years and there are covers I've seen that's she's really good at. I don't think her style matches all dances. But, I credit her for learning dances so quickly. However, she tends to miss few more details than others (especially when I go to the og dance practice I noticed it). I like her tutorials too! Imo a lot of tutorial channels tend to go WAY too fast and barely explain anything, making things confusing. But Leia really breaks down everything, I’ve also learned several dances with her help and I tend to look up her tutorials if I’m ever confused with a move just watching the dance practice. Definitely my go-to!

      It really depends on your experience and how fast you pick up. Bruh Vivi's dance was honestly at par with Heejin bc like you said she didn't have a set technique like Heejin and such but her energy was so good she didn't look bad at all! if you weren't born a good dancer all you need is dedication, practice, and energy to be a good dancer. If you work hard you can still look really good. Stan queen Vivi!

    • @ishathakor
      @ishathakor 2 года назад

      i get the sentiment but i just wanna say that literally no one was born a good dancer. not heejin. not someone much better than heejin like dino or jhope and not someone who is literally a world famous dance legend like anna pavlova or michael jackson. all of these people put a lot of practice into their dancing. i'm saying this to put their effort into perspective. since all we as the audience are seeing is the final result of all their effort, we don't realize exactly how much effort went into getting to that level of dancing. vivi doesn't look despite her lack of technique - she looks good because even though she is lacking technique, she still has a sense of coordination and enough energy to execute the dance from her years of practice. you and i will never be able to dance like any of these dancers, but with a lot of practice, we will be able to dance really well and reach our full potential as dancers.

While following a choreography, I do the moves and then record myself and i get so bummed I cant dance like the dancers in the group. Think about it, idols have not only had practice, but unforgiving training over a course of years that made them this great. As a Kpop dancer trained in Korea by a professional Kpop dance teacher I agree with all of your points and would like to add a few
    You have to be precise with every move
    You can’t stand out ect being too powerful or not powerful enough
    Line and balance are extremely important
    Working on basics are very Important here, if there’s something off about your dancing they force you to start your basics all over again
    As well as being flexible you have to be quite thin to get the right look, not just being “pretty” but it effects the way you dance as you look more “elegant and sharp” when you dance and you can get “better lines and power” (these are what most teachers say here).
    And an important thing I would like to say is, you may be an amazing dancer but everything is different about Kpop dancing, most foreign students who used to be professional dancers come here and have to start all over again because of the style and need to blend in , it’s brutal to be honest because I know so many incredible dancers that were assessed and told they weren’t good enough and it just shows how hard it is.

    The teacher really teaches dances and basic technique's well. They're really passionate about helping people learn the basic skills to improve. They have a great stretching video too and Warm Up Videos that combine the basic skills and are categorised specifically for Girl Groups style dances and Boy Group style dances. Although I recommend doing both exercises from those vids because even if you're just learning a girl group dance, the basics that are typically found in boy group style can be helpful and sometimes can be found in girl dance and vice versa!

    Honestly I'm able to learn better from the dance practice/ performance directly, Tutorials are hard for me because we have to take pause in the middle of dancing, which just breaks the flow?? I watch the dance practice & / or the performance atleast five times prior starting to learn, at a low speed so that I don't miss any minor details. Then i keep them in mind and do the dance along w the group 2 times and then go step by step. Takes me a week to learn a choreo this way but the results are worth it!!

    Okay one thing I wanted to say as a dancer again, about the "counts" point, is that not everyone can do their best best with counts. Some people like me, like to analyse the beats and relate dance moves with it, and it's not wrong. I just wanted to say that learn with the method you want to learn. That's all. ALSO, THAT TUTORIAL PART IS SOOO TRUE. I USED TO LEARN DANCES FROM THE DANCE PRACTICE BUT WHEN I USED TUTORIALS I GOT SO MUCH BETTER. I DONT REALLY USE TUTORIALS NOW, BUT I WATCH THE MOVES VERY CAREFULLY NOW.

    I think the most important thing is that you have to understand what dance is like it's a translation of the beat to moves , when you feel it , when you enjoy it that's the point of being a dancer .
    The rest is that you fix what you need to make your choreo looks great as you said flexibility , watching tutorials to get the exact moves ....

    About energy: Yes most ppl learning dances tend to under dance, and i do it too (mostly bc im afraid of looking dumb), but! if you want to look like how idols look, dancing "full out" is key. However, be aware that too much energy can make you look sloppy if you're just throwing your arms and legs everywhere. That's where practice comes into play, trying to hit the right positions/ angles with precision while keeping that energy. Another note: It's not *all* about power. For ex, the diff. between "insert almost any skz dance here" and taemin's move, which is actually harder than youd think bc the choreography focuses on control (on a whole other lvl rly). And some dances have a mix of flowy and sharp movements, so to add flavor to your dance, think about varying your energy level during certain moves!

    Twice- what is love
    Everglow- dun dun
    Twice- fancy
    Blackpink- kill this love
    Bts- boy with luv
    Blackpink- how you like that
    April- lalalilala
    Twice- feel special
    Twice- more and more
    ITZY- not shy
    ITZY- wannabe
    ( also I didn’t put dalla dalla because uhm I find it hard but if you wanna learn it that’s fine lol)
    I don’t have a huge mirror but I have one big enough to look at myself doing the dancing, I recommend learning it from someone on RUclips. Some of these dances I learned by watching a mirrored fancam and changing the speed with RUclips settings. Also after I think I got it right I film myself and fix things that need to be fixed, I still need to work on many things but I’m making progress

  • @michellesmirnova4471

    I tend to follow the dance practice videos mirrored when learning a dance, and then, for stuff I’m uncertain with how to execute or I can’t quite see or, compared to my dancing, it looks off - I look up tutorials and dance covers that show it more clearly (assuming they use the exact same move). Maybe not the most efficient approach but it’s the one I like to go with and it works great to really get things down! For me I kind of try to “replicate things” because I’m still learning the basics, and I partly do that through practicing these moves with correct technique that are often based on basic moves. I think a lot of people do it similarly too. Nonetheless, instead of sharing my own ways that nobody really cares for - great video! I think some of your tips could really help, especially in efficiency when learning dances, thank you!

    • @michellesmirnova4471
      @michellesmirnova4471 4 года назад

      And well, I have virtually no knowledge in dancing so don’t take my word as an educated opinion, but personally I think it’s very important that you’re genuinely feeling the dancing and the song itself and I don’t think enough people emphasize that. Like I’d much rather watch someone with energy and the right feel for the song than someone with proper technique but otherwise lacks expressions or looking like they’re enjoying themselves. In the end, the most important thing is that you’re having fun! Never forget why you dance in the first place!

Also a mirror and a camera can perceive dances very differently whether its just confidence or the way/angle your filming. I would suggest getting into a full outfit even if its just for practice it can give more motivation and more energy + it just looks better overall.

    I´m also a trained dancer so I would like to add one tip related to the counts. You don't have to know the counts if you have good musicality, we often use stuff like "papapa" "boom" and other sounds to mark the beats without having to count. You can start practicing using counts and then change to the beat marking when your musicality improves. To improve your musicality, you can do many thing but I recommend listening to the song many times while marking it (not dancing full out, just to remember the dance) or mentalizing the dance, and also, even if you´re using counts, remeber to adjust the numbers so they match the music (you can count faster or slower, add "and", that is like half a count) and always link the movements to the beat!

    counting is fine and probably better but if you really like a song and you know everything from the vocal rhythm or the instrumental very, very well, you can dance to that too. most dances are based on the vocals and the music (obviously) so the more you enjoy the song, the better you’ll dance to it (or even freestyle if you can 👀)

  • @jiya8358
    @jiya8358 4 года назад +1

    Also:
    Ask others for their opinion (whether they are dancers or not). Just ask if it looked okay and it wasn't boring. Learn to take criticisms too. Don't be such a cry-baby for someone telling you that your techniques were bad. And when you are learning from others, be respectful and don't roll your eyes and say stuff behind the instructors back (from personal experience). Over-all the video explained everything. Also don't be scared and ashamed to start from the beginning. Dancing takes a long time and we all make mistakes. When you do, just smile it out so it won't look like you did a mistake.
    Feel free to ask questions :)
