  • “4 Hard Truths About Getting Your First Chin Up” explores the requirements and the implications of getting your first chin up.
    Specifically, the video covers:
Weight: Obviously, the lighter a person is, the easier it will be to get the chin up. However, being overweight doesn’t automatically disqualify from you getting your first chin up. It may be possible; however it won’t be easy. What is nearly impossible is getting your first chin up if you are obese. It pays to lose weight first.
Gender: Given a male and a female at equal height and equal weight, the male will on average have more muscle relative to fat mass. This makes it easier for males to get their first chin ups over females. However, the most important factor in getting your first chin ups (and beyond) is consistent practice.
Height: Shorter people will have an easier time getting their first chin ups over taller people because shorter people use less range of motion than taller people. Again however, the most important principle is consistent practice.
Mindset: When we feel safe and confident, our nervous system allows us to be at our strongest. However, if we are scared and a feel unsafe, our nervous system can shut down our strength which can prevent us from getting our first chin up. This is why it’s important to have an efficient process to get our first chin up which we’ll explore coming up.
