- After three years I installed a Magnaflow stainless steel cat back exhaust on my Ford panther platform Grand Marquis. The sound is extremely pleasing to the ear.

Dum question what's a ford panther?
lmao🤣
"Panther" is what Ford calls the platform the car is built upon. The 79-93 ford mustangs were built on the "Fox" platform. GM & Dodge were known to use letter codes to name platform types such as A-Body, B-Body, etc.
@@OldeCarrGuy Correct!!! The Panther platform existed from 1978 to 2011 and served as the base for the LTD, Crown Vics, and even the Country Squire wagons, as well as the Mercury variants and Lincoln's Town Cars, and most Continental models. Hmm, I wonder if I could fit a 460 in my 2004...
Sounds great. I'd like to see an H-pipe crossover on it, but otherwise very nice!
That is the perfect sound. I thought that I wanted Magnaflow, now I know. Sexy rumble but not obnoxious.
You definitely notice it more in person. I LOVE IT.
"Sexy rumble but not obnoxious."
Fuck it. watch a 100 videos and this is the one that's finally got me to go to cart and checkout. thanks bud.
😂! Happy to help you spend your hard earned dollars!
“My wife’s gonna be so mad”, “actually no she probably gonna like it” 😂😂 coolest dude on RUclips
First, I bought my Mom's 2000 Grand Marquis when she was told to stop driving. Marq is my favorite car so far, smooth, comfortable and capable. Her license plate was "GRAMMI", which made her kin to "GRANDMA". Unfortunately, she doesn't have anyone but Stainless Works making systems for her. I was looking at getting the Walker system, but this video talked me out of that quite convincingly. Dude...
Grandma sounds AWESOME!!!
Second, I don't think that grin's gone yet!
Definitely not! Still Smiling!
That does sound much better! I installed the same set up you had done previously and have already changed out the mufflers. Always look forward to your next video and projects! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Ken
GOOD CHOICE! This is the same system I bought the 16788 for my car. Not too many videos about this system, but I’ve had it on my car for almost a year and still love it. Great mellow sound. I also used stainless bolts to bolt it up to the cats. So glad to see someone else giving this system some love, everybody looks over it!
I also had to wiggle it around to get clearance around the frame rails
Right on! My wife is very happy with it and that’s what matters! Lol 😂 I love it as well!
I am currently driving my 5th Panther platform car. Love 'em. The only previous experience I've had with Magnaflow was on my Contour SVT when I put an 18" oval Magnaflow in place of the factory resonator. Sounded awesome. Slight burble at idle, quiet on the road, wakes up beautifully to compliment the fantastic Contour induction noise when you stomp the fun pedal.
The Crown Vic Sport I have now will get this kit. I'm itching to buy but waiting until I get some other projects done or a sale will spur me to click the 'checkout' button. I hope the system will compliment my Mustang long tube headers...
You will definitely be happy with it!
This is on my list of things to do on my 99.
I have a 2005 Grand Marquis LS Premium with factory dual exhausts with an H pipe. I always wanted to put a system like this on mine. I call mine Granny.😊
Wow. It sounds much more throaty. Love it
I think so too! You should hear it in person.
This channel is the best
THANKS BUD!
Oh hell yeah! I approve it! I wish all Crown Vics (Police Interceptor or Civilian) Gran Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car would come like this from the factory since they all share and use the same 4.6L V8.
Loved the music choice, and think GrandMa sounds throatier! Fantastic!
Been trying to change it up a bit. It does sound quite super.
My father-in-law had this installed on his crown Vic five years ago or so and it literally sounds like you put a big cam in it. It sounds awesome. It’s got throaty noise. It’s got a nice road noise going down the road that same kit is $1200 straight from Jegs it is on my to do list most definitely on my crown Vic
Best upgrade I ever did to one of these panthers!
Had a Borla catback installed on my 06 Grand Marquis last year and it sounds great! Sure does turn heads when I pull away from a stop.
That is awesome!
@@OldeCarrGuy I also had a Borla catback dual exhaust put on my 2010 Mercury Ultimate Grand Marquis. Sounds terrific and does draw attention when the 4.6 starts up and I kick it in the butt and it accelerates. When I saw the grin on your face when you floored it takes me back when I did the same thing on my Merc. I also got a K&M air filter on her too! My wife reacted like yours did, too!
Oh yeah, I have an 05 Mercury G/M. I want that sound now. 👍
Do it. You won't regret it.
Man I want that on my 08 MGM so bad 😎
Do it! You won’t regret it!
sounds sweet!
Sure does! Thanks
I have the same catback mine really woke up after I put long tube headers on it. I’m glad you like your new catback 😎
I love it!
Where you get the headers from im looking for some
You do a lot of work on the panther platforms so quick question... Where can I find the blowerhose that goes from the crankcase/driver side valvecover and the air flow tube/case?
Keep getting the passenger side results for the pcv hose and the blowerhose int the back. Looking to put a new hose and not have to get a used one.
Have a 2003 mercury grand marquis ls
If you find me on Facebook or Instagram, could you send me a picture?
So your rear cats have essentially been deleted? You should do a follow up video to see how nicely it’s broken in! Love how it sounds so far. I’m thinking about using Magnaflow for my Marauder.
I likely wont do a dedicated followup, but if you follow my Instagram, I'll post something there.
nice sound. great improvement. wish l had something similar for my OLD FOSSIL but it does not have dual exhaust. only single.
We can change that you know! 😂
@@OldeCarrGuy cost must be $2000 approximately after parts and labour which is more than what the car is worth.
That rocks! Gotta put Magnaflow duals on my 08 LX. 👍
Highly recommended!
I bought a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis GS last year. I called it "Frankenstein" because they had so many different parts from so many different vehicles to make it work. I swapped in a 5.4L from an F-150 and I converted to single exhaust to a dual exhaust by buying a walker h-pipe, a pair of Joe's Exhaust Flowpack 1-chambered mufflers, and a pair of Flowmaster tailpipes for the 19 70 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. (Yes those tail pipes fit on the Crown Vic / Grand Marquis.) Is it loud? Yes it is. I'm not tired of it yet because it gets attention so I'm going to keep it for the time being as is.
Most folks wouldn't touch a 5.4 with a 10 foot pole. Good on you for making it happen.
@@OldeCarrGuy It was a chore but I finally worked all the bugs out of it. Unfortunately it took pulling the engine twice. It runs great now. 7500 plus miles so far and no issues.
Sounds outstanding! Where did you order the exhaust system from?
I ordered from a supplier here in Canada called JRP Online!
I have a 08 vic with a single exhaust, i put in a cherry bomb and put 2 pipes out the back and it has a nice high exotic tone instead of the raspy v8 sound which I love a lot.
My 97 TC has cherry bombs an i find it too snappy. But I'm old!
Have you got the tail pipes on there right sides.
They will only fit on one way. I'm guessing this is why the kit is designated 2006 and up. Must be a slight change there somewhere.
Not bad at all. Not too loud
WOULD STILL 100% RECOMMEND
I have a 06 Grand Marquis, what do you think about Borla ?
I like Borla.
Any idea how long the muffler case is?
Not off the top of my head. But my guess is the same as any universal muffler, around 18".
So I just noticed that you live in New Brunswick. I have a question about rock salt and your Magnaflow exhaust on Grand-Ma - if they use rock salt to help y'all with traction in the winters you're known for (notorious is such a strong word, don't you think?), how has the 409 stainless steel been holding up? I'm planning a move to Michigan and am torn between Borla cans (in 304 SS) and Magnaflows. Both sound wonderful with a 4.6, but I want the longest lasting system I can have. Buy once, cry once. (then get a hotter cam and start over 😂😂😂) Thankx
I've since sold the car, but it was not an issue in the time I had it!
@@OldeCarrGuy Thanks 😁
How is the sound on the interior? Is it loud, or just a mild note?
Definitely loud enough to hear inside, but not droany!
Any benefits to headers, maybe a pain to install?
Definitely a pain to install, but may change the sound and let free flow.
I have a 2001 grand marquis..will this work on it..I'm having trouble finding a system that says it will work on a 2001
The biggest challenge is the tail pipes. 2002 and older panthers had a different suspension in the rear and the pipe routing was different.. You will likely need to have a custom exhaust built at a shop. You can still buy the MagnaFlow mufflers and have the shop fab the pipes.
Thanks for the info
To me it sounds about the same. Maybe it's because it's coming out my phone. I'd love to hear headers with that system. I bet it would wake up a sleeping beast then
Yeah, the camera certainly doesn't do it justice.
If I delete the rear cats. Will it affect the O2 sensors and cause codes?
It doesn’t on mine!
I deleted my rears and had no issue. The oxygen sensors are up and downstream for the first set of cats but not the rear.
When I changed my 06, I thought about magnaflow, but went with Stainless Works to get the X Pipe system. Marty Tune one day to finish it
A Marty Tune is next on the list.
No crossover pipe?
No! I'm not too worried about it. It's not like I'm pulling major horsepower.
Nice car
mortske repair said I should watch your videos
You should. Thanks Arthur
Think I’ll get some magnaflows.
Do it Ed!
I have disliked magnachoke exhaust for years. Barely louder than stock. Cool video though 👍
Fair enough! But I'm not building a racecar, just letting that V8 sing!
Your fuel filter looks pretty nervous
haha It's not that old either. That's the rust belt for ya!
My take-away is to never buy anything from the company that made that old exhaust (Walker?). I've had half a dozen Panthers and the only one that ever needed exhaust work was an 88 GM in about 2003. My 95 TC with 500K miles still had stock exhaust with no leaks, dealing with Michigan winters. Can't see the point of replacing a part that doesn't die with one that does.
I get your point, but I wanted dual exhaust and wasn't prepared to shell out the dough at that time. but now? I'm happy.
Sounds a bit like blackjack....lol
Kinda, only more expensive! lol
@@OldeCarrGuy ya alot cheaper to just let it rust out lol
I thought you sold Grandma last year
No sir. I sold Black Jack last summer and just sold my 97 Town Car.
C00L
Personally I blame squirrels..
Them dam squirrel's they get into everything, sure you don't mean Chipmunks 😅🤣 all the best to you all
First comment in every video.
ROAR... was that ALVIN singing?? U certainly changed your tune..
Waste of cash
To each their own.
Sounds great!! Great video Jason, did you keep the stock 4.6L in?
Thanks @BoobeeMyles Yes I did.
Nice!, did you ever find a white led 3157 for grandma?
@@BoobeeMyles I’ve never bothered. Just felt as though Grand Ma didn’t like LED’s.
@@OldeCarrGuy oh I was wondering why I never seen an update video
