I LOVE the twist in the end that recontextualizes the main menu and Kratos saying "my vengeance ends now" at the very beginning. on the main menu, you think the chaos behind him is due to the ongoing battle that Kratos is leading, leaving chaos in his wake. but as you get to the end, you realize it wasn't the battle that caused all of that chaos, but Kratos and his actions alone. and in the beginning, you believe he is referring to killing Zeus as his final act of vengeance, but at the end, you learn that his last act of revenge isn't just "the god of war killing the gods who wronged him" but "Kratos killing ALL of the gods". he is no longer the "god of war" nor is he the "ghost of Sparta", that is him reclaiming his humanity and becoming "Kratos" again. its not a subtle twist, but instead, in a true godly fashion, it is a deceitful twist that never lied about what it was going to be, but never corrected you on what the intentions were in the beginning.
I’ll always remember as a kid playing the opening scene of GoW1 in Blockbuster and thinking “oh yeah, I gotta see this all the way through.” Still the best trilogy I’ve ever played.
You don't even know as a kid. The platforming and Hades literally drove me insane. Insane. My mom came home from work. It was listening to me, curse as a little kid. She's like guaranteed trouble. Because I cursed so much at that platform.
I'd like to appreciate how with the first game, it doesn't just do away with high-level combat (like GOW 2 and GOW 3) did from the start, but rather, takes its time to get us USED TO the environment of the combat.
From the very beginning kratos has been one of my favorite characters in all gaming ...2018 and Ragnarok and it's DLC Valhalla just adds to his story and I pray we get to see more of him.... Do his son's standalone game but still have kratos.... And what that DLC truly showed us is we all want the original trilogy to get a remake
I never realized when i was a kid, but once you start the original game the background music actually says "Kratos, son of Zeus" It didn't hit me until i replayed it for the first time in AGES a couple years back, but when i caught it i was like holy shit they told us who he really was in the literal first 5 seconds of the game
It wasn’t until I watched the original GOW3 video that I realized we use our thumbs to hit the buttons in the same exact manner as Kratos gouging out Poseidon’s eyes.
The free Valhalla add on is probably the best add on to a game ever made, it’s a rouge like that encourages determination and learning from failure and playing at your own pace, I have never ever played a game that encouraged you to play this way constantly
I remember when I was like, 10-12 years old, me, my sister and our mom would put god of war 3 in the ps3 and pop some boneless buffalo chicken wings in the oven to snack on while playing, good times.
I have a defense for killing the boat captain. If before hou get to the hydra battle, theres a room full of people begging to be let out, but the boat captain had the key. He INTENTIONALLY LOCKED THEM IN THERE AND LEFT THEM THERE TO DIE! The boat captain cameos were fun, but trying to turn him into some innocent man is bull!
I love all of them but 2 of the old trilogy is my favorite cause I love the scenery the bosses and the Spear of Destiny is my favorite weapon and I used it from when I got it to when I finished
Just beat Valhalla and I'm more than amazed by the gameplay and story. It's everything I wanted the game to be, playing as Kratos only and fighting endlessly.
Something I always liked about posidens death is how it changes the perspective to show you how scary kratos is. It fits with kratoses story in this game. Because this game is all about him crossing the line. Where previously he was only known as the general or the fallen god, now he's a destroyer. He becomes a true monster and the perspective changes shows that. Another detail is just how brutal kratos kills posidon. Where previously he would kill his enemies relatively quickly with blades, hammers, and even his hands to simply snap there neck, this is different. He doesn't just kill posidon, he tortures him. And posidon as bad as he is hasn't done anything to kratos at this point. He's simply fighting him because Zeus commands it and to protect his own throne. But also even though a point of this is how kratos is becoming this monster there's still moments where he shows mercy and honor. It's also about how now kratos and his choices don't just hurt the people in his way, because by the end everyone is dead or dieing. Morals who may have never even heard of kratos. They weren't in his way, but they suffer the consequences anyway. Even in the previous games you could attempt to justify his actions as simply "they were his enemies, or they got in the way" but now you can't do that. Even when he burns the Athenian soldier in the chamber of sacrifice in the previous game, you could say "well he was an enemy soldier" but again by the end of the game kratos just kill soliders, he kills everyone. How many people of Sparta escaped the burning city? Were they alive when kratos doomed the world? I just love how complex the story can be when you think about it. On a final side note: this is also why I like the valhalla dlc so much, because even Tyr himself says it's not about forgiving or even justifying Kratos's actions, merely understanding them.
To me the og trilogy was the best of the series because of the mechanics and character development of kratos as we play the game and about all the critics and people criticizing kratos rage the reason for that was because the gods didn’t forgive him of his sins and Zeus betrayed him in gow2 then in the end of 2 he specifically said to Athena that he was only going after Zeus not the other gods then in 3 the reason that the other gods died was because they kept getting in his way and wouldn’t let him defeat Zeus so he didn’t have much of a choice when it came to defeating the gods of Olympus and I wish these people would understand the reason for his rage is because he was betrayed by the gods!

Between you cinema wins birdman and Lemino… I have you guys on a constant loop in my house. It’s always playing on one of my TV’s Keep it up big homie. Pizza
They did keep referencing The Boat Captain in the newest ones. There is a treasure map in one of the shipwrecks around the Lake of 9 titled The Boat Captain's Key and Kratos references The Boat Captain in his journal in Ragnarök after unchaining the whale that was trapped by Mimir.
24:48 I always thought it’s because he is the God of War, and how befitting that his final attack is a nuke centuries (according to known history as we have found artifacts tens of thousands of years old that could ONLY be created through nuclear fission) before it was invented. it is the most devastating weapon created by mankind and he will know ALL aspects of war, past, present, and future.
In defense of the bride of Poseidon scene: if you go back to the wreckage, the camera focuses on it like a lore tidbit and says… nothing. It’s as if kratos and the game itself is as speechless as you are. The ghost of Sparta has taken many a life, but this one had the chance to continue if it walked forward or to the side. The fact that it didn’t, that merely interacting with the usurper god of war leaves blood on his hands, gave him pause; it made him wonder if it was worth it. He would then rationalize it with “I’ve come too far to stop now, I’ve got nothing left but this crusade, and it’s Zeus’ fault for commissioning a faulty door design”. Kratos then did what he always did: put that trauma in a box, and focus on what he means to kill later.
@@GamingWinsin GoW 2,Gaia didn't really save him, Gaia just gave him the morale boost to keep going thus Kratos healing at will... also in GoW I, it's not like Kratos would forever be stuck in the Underworld as he not only f3cked the rules up but would still try his best to finding a way out...
@@GamingWinsand another plus, Kratos was already known as Death when he quite literally killed Death aka Thanatos in Ghost of Sparta and it's where Zeus disguised as the grave digger labelled Kratos as 'Death, The Destroyer of Worlds'
I am SO glad you understand Kratos' story was just as complex in the trilogy as it is in the Norse saga. I am sick of the narrative the mainstream media keeps trying to push that only written well now and that was just a "raging monster the the Greek saga!
If anyone complains about kratos being weaker in the Norse games notice how he went from fighting giant Greek monsters in the tutorial/opening to fighting Norse gods in the tutorial/opening
I’d imagine there’s a document of some kind with a video schedule, but I would like to suggest that you consider covering the Metal Gear Games. 1-5 and Revengeance.
Hey Mr. Wins. Fantastic video. You should check out Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Its often dissmissed as just a God of War clone but its so much better than that.
One fun fact for the trilogy is the meaning of his Rage mode cause each one shows where Kratos's Rage is at. Gow of War #1 is the Rage of the Gods since he's using the Rage the Gods have for Ares (but mainly his own Rage for Ares) to increase his power. God of War 2 is the Rage of the Titans since he's using their Rage to take down Zeus. And then God of War 3 is the Rage of the Spartans since he's all on his own and wants revenge with the very thing he has left to keep his power and strength. Neat way to tell where Kratos's Rage lies with each game.
Athena probably or Poseidon probably tasked Kratos to defeat the hydra that is ravaging the seas around Greece. Then Ares attacked Athens and suddenly they thought "Well good thing he is already so close."
I know I'm in the very minority for this but GOW2 is my absolute favorite game in the series, I love the music, I love the weapons and having the blade of Olympus as an actual weapon and not locked behind a rage or anything is just amazing, I also have some biased as it was the last game I played in the series before 2018 due to my copy on PS2 always freezing on the long chain ride back to the island after getting the horses to push it together so playing GOW 3 and seeing kratos kill Athena before even going back to finish GOW 2 and just being in anticipation on what happens in the game gives me nostalgia for it and makes it my favorite
I love both the new games & the originals, even the PSP entries & Ascension. But man, do they need a remake. Mainly the first two entries in the franchise. Not anything that changes the gameplay or pov at all, but a complete graphics overhaul & maybe some fresh voice acting. Hell, maybe even a few little extras thrown in. I'd spend whatever to get my hands on them if it ever becomes a reality. Doesn't even have to be all of them, I'd be happy with the main trilogy 🤷♂️💯 I'll keep dreaming though it probably won't ever happen lol
1:04 It's not just you the music does say "Kratos." And then right after says "Thanatos," which in Greek mythology is the god of death or the personification of death.
There is a reason why Hermes's death releases pestilence upon the world, goods and trade are the primary routes of disease, his staff is also a common symbol in modern medicine as well.
“to catch a fly from the ass of zeus is not worth my time” is the only thing Kratos tells Hermes during the entire chase sequence
*wastes his time chasing Hermes down anyway*

the line, "all hope is lost spartan, even for you," and seeing how this trilogy went is an interesting thing they did there.
How are you not at 1mil yet!!
I’ll continue spreading the good word of gaming wins!
You must stay hydrated. If you know you know.😂
Also Corey Burton (GOW2 Zeus VA) voices Hugo strange in Arkham City, dude has a hell of a voice
You don't even know as a kid. The platforming and Hades literally drove me insane. Insane. My mom came home from work. It was listening to me, curse as a little kid. She's like guaranteed trouble. Because I cursed so much at that platform.
I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it but I love that you edit your own subtitles into the video because YT closed caption aren’t always accurate lol
0:23 what he says here is so real I’ve rewatched this vid and his other vids so many times while eating thanking for feeding my iPad tendency
I never realized when i was a kid, but once you start the original game the background music actually says "Kratos, son of Zeus"
It didn't hit me until i replayed it for the first time in AGES a couple years back, but when i caught it i was like holy shit they told us who he really was in the literal first 5 seconds of the game
I'm praying he does a video on the new DLC, Valhalla, next after the release of this video; I'm absolutely loving this.
Can’t wait to see everything great about one of my favorite game series. ❤
Literally 10 minutes ago, and i already know it'll be a banger
It wasn’t until I watched the original GOW3 video that I realized we use our thumbs to hit the buttons in the same exact manner as Kratos gouging out Poseidon’s eyes.
The free Valhalla add on is probably the best add on to a game ever made, it’s a rouge like that encourages determination and learning from failure and playing at your own pace, I have never ever played a game that encouraged you to play this way constantly
Please do the darksiders games I’d love to see you play them and hear your opinions on those games
I remember when I was like, 10-12 years old, me, my sister and our mom would put god of war 3 in the ps3 and pop some boneless buffalo chicken wings in the oven to snack on while playing, good times.
You need to do metal gear series next!! Now that’ll be a hell of a video 😆
Love the great effort you put into your videos; it shows. And hope you're now doing better
“I know you’re all just like me and rewatch videos”
You’re god damn right brother
Know how many times I put everything great about last of us or GTA’s when going to bed???
Between you cinema wins birdman and Lemino… I have you guys on a constant loop in my house. It’s always playing on one of my TV’s
Keep it up big homie.
I didn’t know hardware limitations were a thing just because GOW1 was the first game I ever played. Because of scenes like 10:45
Loved the original trilogy you should do baldur's gate 3 next that game is juicy with so many good things
Truly a great trilogy that still stands (yeah yeah yeah) couldn’t help myself
Doth none appreciate thyne 9th Symphony?
1:09:10 best line in the video😂. I never thought how much this story fit Hermès’ boss fight
I didn't know the R3 & L3 buttons existed before the Poseidon quicktime cutscene. I had trouble with the cutscene and had to Google what R3 & L3 were.
I had the ps2 discs for GOW 1 & 2 for ever and i finally got a hold of a PS2 so I’m gonna replay them
It was actually Athena who cursed Medusa.
“Have been playing longer then I probably should have” I felt that started when I was 5😂
In defense of the bride of Poseidon scene: if you go back to the wreckage, the camera focuses on it like a lore tidbit and says… nothing.
This video is awesome cause I can't watch the older ones cause age restriction exists
Yeah i tried my damndest to fix that with all the censoring!
@@GamingWins thx a lot for that 🔥🔥🔥
@@GamingWinsin GoW 2,Gaia didn't really save him, Gaia just gave him the morale boost to keep going thus Kratos healing at will...
also in GoW I, it's not like Kratos would forever be stuck in the Underworld as he not only f3cked the rules up but would still try his best to finding a way out...
Love God of War. I also.love the gears games! You should do the second gears game soon!
Absolutely love ur videos mate keep it up 🙏 ❤
Gow 2018 had a side mission that mentions the boat captain
5:30 It's a literal Deus Ex Machina, which is fitting for a Greek epic.
Hope you do the God of War DLC next I'm one of your Subscribers from the Philippines
The claws of hades are my favorite weapon in the whole game
One of my all time favorite series!
46:55 the first translator in the finla dificulty, had to glich the map to abuse of a checkpoint just for that part
"Well running like that, I don't think you're gonna get very far" 😂
19:17 "Enjoy my pain."
Me: Thank you, kind sir! I will! 😊
Nothing will ever top the original GOW trilogy in terms of epicness
and of course another dismissal of Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta and Ascension...
Small correction, Athena cursed Medusa, not Aphrodite.
