Thanks for making such an interesting video about such an obscure product. This was recently recommended to me by a company to care for waxed suede. I know a lot of people go on about Otter wax or dubbin, but evidently this is a really excellent way of waterproofing reverse wax suede without adding a sticky texture to it. Any experience using this on waxed suede?
Just bought myself Sebago Rangers. Now i'm wondering if I should use Saphir Renovatuer Or Saphir Oiled cream. And maybe finish of with Saphir Invulner spray? I only have experience with renovateur, but it doesn't really waterproof the leather. Any advice on this? Best regards, Arno
That’s what I personally do. I tend to reapply the Invulner every 10 wearings or so. Your mileage could very depending on use. Once the leather is dry and needing conditioned. I use either the Avel Glycerin Saddle Soap or the Avel white shoe soap depending on the leather in question. The white is gentler while the glycerin is more agressive. Glycerin works good for most oil tanned leathers and the Avel Shoe soap I personally reserve for calfskin or other polishable leathers.
I spent half my childhood, and all my adult life maintaining my footwear mostly wrong. I used mink oil or neatsfoot oil on oil tanned, and Lincoln wax on regular leather. Recently I bought a pair of suede Chippewas boots, and some nebuck Scarpas. I would have mink oiled the shoes, and silicone sprayed the Chippewas. I got the bright idea to use some rifle sling leather dressing on both. It's mostly beeswax from Pecards, and was pleased with the results. They both shed water like a duck now. I ordered Lexol cleaner and conditioner that I plan on using from now on. I bought Tarrago cream for the rest. I had no idea shoe wax was not good for normal leather, and could lead to cracking without a conditioner. I wish I would have known earlier.
Any recommendations for red wings black prairie leather? Is this the stuff to use? I'm so confused after a few weeks of researching. Everyone has conflicting opinions. I'll trust yours lol
Red Wing recommends their natural leather cream so the Saphir Medaille Dior Oiled Leather Cream here is a cut above that. I use it on my my 3345 Blacksmiths, my 10877, and my Nick’s boots in Wickett and Craig Oiled Tanned Latigo Boots(veg tan). I can’t recommend it enough!
I own the Saphir Medaille Dior Oiled Leather Cream and Red Wing’s natural leather cream. I have used both too. Other than the fact Saphir’s product smells better and is a bit more water repellant I can tell little to no difference between the two, Would there be a longevity difference? Lastly when would one use Nappa Balm and on what leathers?
@@peterfax4323 Makes it more like fresh from the factory. If your leather is extremely dehydrated there will be a bit of a change but it is only temporary.
Avel has a soap that is not as harsh as saddle soap. The Saphir Beaute Du Cuir Avel Leather Rejuvenator Cleaning Soap. Use that if you need to strip the previous conditioning for some reason.
Yes you can use this on that leather however for the more waxy leather I have been liking the Moo Buzz www.cobblersplus.com/collections/oiled-leather-care/products/moo-buzz-waterproofer
To cover up scratches from oiled leather, which would perform better the greasy leather cream in brown or the oiled leather cream in medium brown? Or would either work fine?
What model shoe butler / shine shoe holder do you have mounted on the wall? Is this the same type as Dornstar uses? Do you also sell them? Thanks for the detailed video on oil tanned leathers.
Interesting. I was aware that there were solvents of sorts in the mix, but not silicone. I have been using Sno Seal on a pair of Chippewas since I bought them, and there is an odd surface cracking going on with the leather. Do you think there is a connection? I have been applying the Sno Seal about once every month.
@@lukemorarend2682 Something like Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP would be more appropriate. You can try and remove the excess with a bar of Fiebling’s glycerin saddle soap. It may take you 3 coats though to grt off the excess wax. The nuclear option is Saphir Renomat or Acetone. I recommend ppe if you go nuclear though.
Thanks for this video! Damn it man you just made me buy CXL boots. Keep the honest videos coming. You remind me of Marquess Brownlee when he had 10k subscribers just shitting on tech brands. Now he's 14mil subs🤣

Hello mate First of all nice video Well I would like to ask you , the saphire oiled leather cuirs gras , is suitable with oiled "blonde " leather ( natural leather no color at all) I mean makes any darker finish? Thanks and keep doing great job Panos
Good video I appreciate....have some boots that are that oily type leather...needed some love but wasn’t sure what to do...thought about kiwi wax polish...glad i didn’t. Now i know what im dealing with and how to treat them thanks!

I found saphir creme universelle to work quite well, too.
Conditions, does little to darken, and offers a soft shine.

good stuff man. The oily leather cream is hard to come by where I live, but I don't have much of a problem buying the medaille d'or line
Can I use these on my Copper rough & tough Red wings without much disolouration?
Definitely. This will do a lot less for changing color while doing a great conditioning job
Red wing made a white moc toe boot. Red Wing collab with Beams Japan. Red Wing model number 8871

What would you recommend for Birkenstock oiled nubuck uppers? The ecco oiled nubuck conditioner is being discontinued :(

Which is the correct Saphir product to make a maintence light cleaning before conditioning oily leather boots?

Thanks for the info. AE Stirling boots are Horween’s Dublin leather. Would you say Saphir MDO Oiled leather is appropriate for them?
Yes that’s what I would use
can I use this on Thursday Boot brown chrome boot?
Yes you can

Either would work but they wouldn’t quite cover deep scratch unfortunately

Jason has the older cast iron ones that are awesome.
These are the same but newer and sadly are not cast iron
Cobblers Plus Inc. do you also sell them? Thanks.
Would it be appropriate to use the Saphir Oiled Leather Cream and apply a beeswax based leather protectant like Sno Seal?
I try to stay away from sno seal because of the silicone in it and just use it on very bad weather boots

What’s the opinion on oberhauf? Nicks recommends it for their oiled leather.
I haven’t tried it but hear great things about it. Planning to try it sometime soon
Good but destroys a patina. The ultimate stuff to weather proof boots though.

Is it bad to use Saphir Renovateur with olied leather?
It’s not the best because there are waxes in the Renovateur but if you used it once or twice that’s not to bad
Hi. I read Neatsfoot Oil is bad for Stitching. SAPHIR Contains The Oil. Is that true? Thank You.
Where'd you hear tha gobblygook.
Red wings own natural leather cream is also neetsfoot oil.
Where do I get Saphir in México ? :/
I’m not sure about Mexico. You may have to email Saphir directly to find out
Ebay and Amazon
A 22 min comnerical for Saphir
WIthout testing it on the shoes

It does but you won’t get as much of a shine out of it

It will slightly darken it but will lighten back up typically after a few wears
If people are wearing leather, which comes from a dead cow, why would they have an issue with neatsfoot oil?
I don’t know but it was a problem about 10-15 years ago
