Dark UI may be lowkey the single most important mod for this game, I could not play this game for more than 15m at a time seeing nothing but brown everywhere including my UI, brown on brown on top of more brown with a little more brown in the distance and even the greens are brown!! once I installed dark UI... well since Ive put in just over 600 hours into the game, still novice rank, but It really got the ball rolling for me
The modding community has shrunk, but persisted because of the FCS app that allows a modding backbone. Those templates are usable even if they have an open-source DIY feel to it.
The problem is that the modding tool is very barebones. In function it's very similar to Morrowind's Construction Set _(it's literally named "Forgotten Construction Set" too),_ but things like scripts are nigh-impossible to do, town overrides _(for example when you kill an important NPC, a town gets overrun by another faction)_ are pure witchcraft to make and the tool is very limited in other aspects too. The prequel is made on Unreal engine, so the modding of that one is going to be a free-for-all once the game is released.
So I had this game suggested to me on the premise that in this game you are neither special nor are you the chosen one, and I gotta say man you hit the nail on the head. This video has been informative and amazing l absolutely hilarious. You hit the nail in the head. Also you're description was the selling point for a few friends of mine. In short thank you. Keep up the awesome work!!
Man good times, I remember starting my journey with Kenshi when Mourn(or some city near it I dont remember now, the one not belonging to any faction that was mostly abandoned and had this empty center tower, near were 2 rusty and ruined planes you could mine under, probably it) was a starting city and oh boy that was one hell of a grind to survive, not yet experienced in arts of making money most of my time was spend on mining and earning just enough to not starve while avoiding rabid bone puppies and other menaces. I miss the feeling Kenshi evoked in me when playing it for the first time- fear of the unknown, the feeling of dread and excitement when exploring every new area, the joy of meeting first companions and enjoying the banter! The first time being eaten alive by animals AND cannibals! Maaaaan it was so good, I dont remember when was the last time any game stimulated my neurons like that. I really need Kenshi 2 down bad.
I bought this game in like 2019. I pretty much just ran around for like 10 minutes confused, attacked some guards, died instantly then closed it forever. re-downloading as I write this lol
"Don't go there it's all spiders" Oh boy I went there to see if the villages had anything and... let's just say I almost got eaten, enslaved, etc. and got nothing out of it (village had jack shit). So since I was injured and would not make the trek towards the bigger town in the middle I just gave up and went back to the Hub with limbs dangling from our torsos.
First time I played Kenshi I painstakingly remade my group of friends in game. It took maybe 45-60 minutes to make. It only took 2 minutes for the beak things to kill and/or maim each and every one of them.
Kenshi goes to show you don’t need triple A graphics, a “story line”, or anything other than interesting things to interact with to make an entertaining experience. Just make it unique
I've been eying this game on Steam for years, and I've heard many people talk about it. You're the one to finally sell me on it. It's in my library. ;)

You and Sseth easily have the best "Why you should play Kenshi" videos. Just got the itch to play again. Couldn't put it down all day. Such an amazing game.
I'm too intimidated by this game. I don't want to sink 500 hours without realizing it, so I just watch other people play it. It's one of those games where each playthrough video tells a different, intriguing story.
I was the same at first, I think I thought the skill system or just core mechanics were gonna be hard to learn or have some steep learning curve but that couldn’t be further from the truth the game is incredibly intuitive but yet interesting, I think the game dev designed it to be like that on purpose
I too found the building full of skeletons and they function as the main assault force with my skeleton chad, Steady Eddie. He is very well versed in robotics after tanking my first shek invasion and nearly dying several times but just long enough to sell all my possessions for a robotics kit at the nearby outpost. It’s been a while and they are significantly experienced and equipped with specialist gear. The bugmaster hopefully does not stand a chance.....because I duplicated my skeletons accidentally and now have double the army. Your move kenshi
The only xp mod you need is strength xp x10. So you only have to spend 2 hours walking through the desert with a garru backpack containing 500 liters of water while carrying a dead vagrant. So you get the last strength level required to use the FRAGMENT AXE. Trust me i will never get that time back.
Carry a ton of iron and explore the world dude, its fun. You don't need xp mods, just start roleplaying and get immersed to the game and time will past without you noticing. You can also assign a character to do a task and let them run while carrying heavy stuff, for example hauling building materials or iron to a storage unit. While you are training on that character play as another one.
@@matthewgavin3175 Exploring the world at 2 Mph? Your character would have to be on a super high combat level to deal with all the shit that kenshi sends at you while exploring. Because if you carry that much shit, you cant do the flight part, only the getting eaten by beak things part.
Build lots of ore storage, set a permanent job to deliver ore to storage, set lower priority job to mine a ore deposit on the other side of the base, put a merchant backpack full of iron ore into a character's inventory and every few hours empty the storages. Or just set a job to follow a town guard. Either way works. And Fragment Axe is a meme, just use a Plank or any other heavy weapon. For reference to use a Meitou Fragment Axe you need literally 100 Strength and two Masterwork Lifter Arms and even then you have exactly enough Strength to optimally use the Meitou Fragment Axe until you get hit on either arm once.
Start the game as skelly. Run to the west past the hives and beak things if you're lucky and find an abandoned lab on of the islands and loot it,it is unguarded. Now that you have roughly 60k cats you can head past the hub and into okran territory where you will swim up a lake and find armor king,a skeleton who makes armor. You might wanna buy samurai armor which gives high slash/cut resistance which you need for what's to come but alternatives are fine as long as they give some protection. Now that you have some of the best armor in the game (granted you got masterwork tier) you can go near the border zone and wait for 2 hungry bandit groups to spawn. This happens sometimes,a group of hungry bandits merging into a giant one but that's okay, you need this. Attack them. No,really. As they beat the bolts out of you spam your right mouse button to heal yourself. Eventually you'll get your teeth kicked in but it won't kill you nor put you in a coma cuz of the armor. The way toughness works in kenshi is every time you get your shit pushed in you might get the chance to stand back up again, this is considered colloquially as a bad ass mother fucker move and will give you EXP in toughness which scales off of how many people are on your screen (this is where the giant group of hungry bandits shine) meaning you can go from 0 to 95 toughness in less than 15 mins. Now that you are quite literally immortal you can head to bugmaster. Being a skelly with 95 god points makes this very easty cuz the spiders won't eat you after they knock you out. Fight spiders. Get beaten. While on the ground go into sneak mode which will force your dude to enter the ''staying low" stance which gives you bonus stealth of like 50+ (you gotta be naked which helps a lot) that makes you invisible to the naked eye. Again just like toughness, stealth levels up real quick if there's a lot of movement on your screen so we just slide around the room on our bellies and shoot up to 90 stealth in about 2 mins. Now that you are untouchable and invisible to mortals you can get some training on how to knock people out. Find another mega group of hungry bandits and start knocking them out one by one for about 15 mins until you reach around 80 assassination. Now that you are indestructible,a shadow that evades the human eye and can choke out god himself you can try and smack bugmaster on the back of the head. This...might take a couple tries, the guys pretty tough. If successful in aggravated assault we can loot a nice cross tier saber and the body of a super human from another age which costs around 100k cats if you go to the right people. Congratulations, you are a god. Now you get to decide what happens in this world. Enjoy. Great video, always happy to see kenshi getting love.
I only have 1,000 hours playing Kenshi. But it is a really good game, your time playing will go by fast without you even noticing an thats a good thing.
I learned quick the safety of a wall section with no ramp. Set your bowmen along the edge, have a runner go and pull enemies to the wall. Now if your runner is faster, path these enemies back and forth along the front of the wall, or if your runner is slower, build a ramp template (that you can use right away), and dismantle it right as you get up. Yes it's an exploit and I don't use it anymore, but it saved a lot of frustration early on. They could easily fix it by making unbuilt ramps unusable, but I guess the devs are more focused on Kenshi II, which is fine. Oh and BTW I subbed, great editing and humor.
im not lying or joking when i say Kenshi might just be, the greatest game ever created, the concept is amazing, the execution is great, there really is no game similar to Kenshi out on the market also, the music gives me heavy Avatar The Last Airbender vibes
I really enjoyed this video can't wait for more Haha next year probably. This is the first time ever been introduced to kenshin, so glad I watched this
The only thing it needs is an FCS function for "take item" so modders can create full on quest-style interactions. Sadly it'll never get it since they're working on a "sequel" now.
And some updates can be brought back to the first. I have been around back when it originally used Ogre. It took several months for the transition to Unreal Engine. 1 is rought around the edges due to subsequent engine overhaul that quirks just can't iron out unless rebuild from bottom but still using Unreal. They have the assets, but they need to make their implementation of mechanics again from scratch or salvage workable systems from 1 and refine further. If they host a Kickstarter, I may as well pitch in and see what they can bring out from their learned lessons.
My biggest regret is that I cant make myself to roleplay anymore in this game since I got too good at brute force training my squad to death machine status, to the point that I have to install a lot of hardcore mods, ban myself from using thievery(which is the most broken skill in the game as it lets you get everything for free meaning you dont realy need money anymore) and implement several other restrictions, only to end up overpowered anyway...
Tbh, even if you don't use ninja skills, ruin raiding prints an infinite amount of money you realistically can't spend anyway. And you're most likely going to get all the high tier items you'd want too. Only thing would be getting Meitous.
The mod list that i have turn this game into a true gruesome psychopath post apocalyptic simulator, this is one of those games that you can never uninstall once you mod it
According to lore I read on the wiki years ago, that is a moon and it has become tidal locked with the sun which if you don't know means one side is always facing the sun cooking everything on that side but being a moon mostlikely passes by the planet and provides a few hours of shade thus not completely killing off life
Been drifting between games for a while. Must've been a couple years, maybe 3 years since I last played Kenshi. Ah yes, your review is pure truth! Time to revisit Kenshi, before it is too late and Kenshi 2 comes out!
This is one of the games you have to include in your hard drive for some apocaliptic event where internet no longer exists and you can only play whatever 10 games you have installed until you die. And when you eventually grow tired of it after many years, its still definitely going to remain a lot of fun to watch until you start missing playing it again. Eternal fun.

Kenshi is a game that I should love, I played it for 50+ hours but I feel like, the devs finished this game with the basics layed down for them but not improved, it would've been fine if you could mod the improvements, its possible in some cases but most of the time you won't find a mod that you consider QoL. They wanted to start working on Kenshi 2 as soon as possible, Kenshi 2 will be a great game if they take all the features of kenshi 1 and improve them like it should've been done in this game.
You somehow managed to complain about... what, exactly? You whined, and yet didn't say anything at all. "I wish it were better." What a pointless comment.
@@kraanz The game does lack... hm... "side" content. It's pretty much bludgeoning hobos of various power levels until you are literally too beefed up to die from anything. This is a really good Video. I first thought you were some big RUclipsr with a lot of experience who can pay his life with his content. Then i saw the Numbers.
You definitely got yourself a subscription and i am looking forward to more Videos.
Greatly appreciated! That means alot
What this guy said 👍🏻
@@EthansPlace Boi you keep up this quality of content you gonna blow up.
@@morgancook4288 I can see this guy getting a silver play button easily. I had the same reaction as Damian.
Because he's fashioned his whole style around another youtube who is big and does support himself with his original works.
Dark UI may be lowkey the single most important mod for this game, I could not play this game for more than 15m at a time seeing nothing but brown everywhere including my UI, brown on brown on top of more brown with a little more brown in the distance and even the greens are brown!! once I installed dark UI... well since Ive put in just over 600 hours into the game, still novice rank, but It really got the ball rolling for me
Kenshi has sold so many copies but I feel like the community content is lacking. Love seeing new kenshi content. Great video man :-)
Too busy surviving the wastes
Yearly uploads? Finally a channel I can keep up with.
Kenshi is objectively the best game ever made.
Keep up the awesome work!!
kenshi is about running from shark to flats lagoon with a backpack full of hash in your backpack of hash
I love how the modding community made it possible to create your very own unique experience every time.
I'm speechless on this video, too funny dude. The most awesome video to come across, 6 robotic limbs up!
The art design in kenshi is so good it makes me feel like I am in a Zdzisław Beksiński painting.
consistency does seem to be the key, You poped up in my recomended, I click and I leave with no regrets of having clicked! Awesome video!
I pretty much just ran around for like 10 minutes confused, attacked some guards, died instantly then closed it forever.
re-downloading as I write this lol
how did it go?
Man I have to play this again. I got it way back, and just fell in love with it. That music system does an amazing job, the atmosphere is so lively.
Man this is a fantastic video!!! Love everything of this
"Don't go there it's all spiders" Oh boy I went there to see if the villages had anything and... let's just say I almost got eaten, enslaved, etc. and got nothing out of it (village had jack shit).
10/10 game!
@@muskeldundret I tried that too. I made myself and my two best friends. I was the first one to lose a fucking arm due to an attack of a single wolf.
@@tommyvercetti9434 Best game ever right?
everytime i manage to get an animal, i almost always name it after my bestfriend. it was hilarious to me
My first game ended after I met and lost to a shek bandit camp. 1500 hours suggests that must have been fun
Amazing video! I love the editing!
I really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed
uuhhh boy! You wear your inspirations on your sleeve... and I'm loving it! You just became instantly one of my favorite channels.
Kenshi goes to show you don’t need triple A graphics, a “story line”, or anything other than interesting things to interact with to make an entertaining experience.
Just make it unique
Kenshi is a "create your own story" type of game and it works so well. A true RPG.
The most unique thing about Kenshi is not being about anything specifical at all, it's about nothing and everything
Just got this recommended.
Really like the style, subbed!
I've been eying this game on Steam for years, and I've heard many people talk about it. You're the one to finally sell me on it. It's in my library. ;)
For whatever reason description "first ever biological creature to be made entirely out of duct tape" had me crying with laughter.
love this video so much i had to comment twice, the comedy, fruitfulness, and absolute perfectness about everything really grinds my gears and makes me grind my teeth at excitement of how perfectly this video is put together.
Ground teeth is my preferred form of compliment so I appreciate it
@@EthansPlace meant to say grit my teeth but grinding sounds like im tearing chunks off it so i'll leave it at that, keep doing you and making amazing content, eventually you'll blow up/be viral.
@Zain Eleissa Chad
Glad that the algorithm gods blessed this video. Your editing is great and the games you cover are niche, uncovered gems.
Shem is such a good base location. No major factions to hassle you, beak things for hide meat and training, central location. That was my first base.
you deserve way more subs man, so glad the algorithm showed me your channel. keep em coming! :)
Excellent video and editing, subbed cause I know this'll be a goldmine!
Awesome video. But i think the real hero here is one man army. Thank you Chris Hunt, you poured your heart into making of this game and it is turned out to be a diamond in a rough. Best game i have played in last 5 years or so.
i had completely forgot about Kenshi and this video might make me get back into it, in the meanwhile, im subscribing to your channel, keep up with the good stuff man
You and Sseth easily have the best "Why you should play Kenshi" videos. Just got the itch to play again. Couldn't put it down all day. Such an amazing game.
My heart swelled with pride when i saw someone else has used the exact same technique in the exact same place. Lure beak things to hivers = profit
Until you get swarmed by them and devoured in spitting distance from where they would have helped loool
Yeah, unless the Beak Things actually wipe out the village.
From 200 subs a few weeks ago to over a thousand, glad to see the blow up man you deserve it.
Thanks man!
Getting to lategame turrets and watching limbs fly off as harpoons deal houndreds of damage is the best experience i've had in a sandbox game
Great video man, really entertaining editing.
I appreciate it!
I'm too intimidated by this game. I don't want to sink 500 hours without realizing it, so I just watch other people play it. It's one of those games where each playthrough video tells a different, intriguing story.
Isn't that the point of video games?
You have to play it bro it's indescribably amazing
I was the same at first, I think I thought the skill system or just core mechanics were gonna be hard to learn or have some steep learning curve but that couldn’t be further from the truth the game is incredibly intuitive but yet interesting, I think the game dev designed it to be like that on purpose
Bro there is nothing wrong with enjoying a game, give it a go, you wont regret it, those 500 hours will be amazing
To be honest you should give it a try
Can’t believe that song was procedural. It was gorgeous
You put the link for the Soundtrack in the description, are also hilarious and correct
Take my sub, dom
@@matthewgavin3175 Buy up generator cores. Iron ore weighs 8kg a piece, the generators weigh 20kg each.
Congratulations,you are a god.
Now you get to decide what happens in this world.
Enjoy.
Great video, always happy to see kenshi getting love.
This is exceptional quality for a random dude with 1.43k subscribers, keep it up my man you're gonna go places.
I only have 1,000 hours playing Kenshi. But it is a really good game, your time playing will go by fast without you even noticing an thats a good thing.
You know a game is good when you say "Only 1,000 hours"
Kenshi is like Hot-sauce... it burns you, but soon you want more ^^
The asshole burning truth.
First video, ur pretty funny and it looks like u put a lot of work into editing. If u keep uploading ur definitely gonna grow
I’ll sub if you keep making kenshi videos loved the way you put it all together and the whole thing really well done keep it up!
You remind me of a lot of the content I consume, more of this please
I subbed because after watching this, I'm really looking forward to next year's video!😋
Lmao what this guy said 👍🏼
I learned quick the safety of a wall section with no ramp.
Fantastic video! Excited to see more.
We are witnessing the birth of a new great channel.
im not lying or joking when i say Kenshi might just be, the greatest game ever created, the concept is amazing, the execution is great, there really is no game similar to Kenshi out on the market
also, the music gives me heavy Avatar The Last Airbender vibes
Yup, very unique game.
I really enjoyed this video can't wait for more
Haha next year probably.
This is the first time ever been introduced to kenshin, so glad I watched this
You’re everything I didn’t know I needed. Subbed.
It took until I was skinned alive by skin bandit to realize that hey this is pretty good game
It's the small things
Underrated video. Underrated channel. Keep it up Ethan!!
The only thing it needs is an FCS function for "take item" so modders can create full on quest-style interactions. Sadly it'll never get it since they're working on a "sequel" now.
They used an ancient engine, so with an influx of cash from the sales, they should be able to improve a lot of it, and more quickly, for the sequel.
Always take the back pack off when fighting except if they have no penalties
My biggest regret is that I cant make myself to roleplay anymore in this game since I got too good at brute force training my squad to death machine status, to the point that I have to install a lot of hardcore mods, ban myself from using thievery(which is the most broken skill in the game as it lets you get everything for free meaning you dont realy need money anymore) and implement several other restrictions, only to end up overpowered anyway...
One day I will be you 😂 I have a long road ahead of me
Tbh, even if you don't use ninja skills, ruin raiding prints an infinite amount of money you realistically can't spend anyway. And you're most likely going to get all the high tier items you'd want too. Only thing would be getting Meitous.
There's a reason why they don't want you to trespass into that building in Mourn...
It's filled with treasure I tell you
Hmm yes, I wonder what could be inside this locked building. Its the biggest one around surely it must be somethi- OH GOOD HEAVENS
The bar man said something about “pest control”, i wonder what he -OH SHIT
Everyone knows behind big doors is even bigger fun
The mod list that i have turn this game into a true gruesome psychopath post apocalyptic simulator, this is one of those games that you can never uninstall once you mod it
Subbed, for someone who seems new to this the edits and writing are top tier. Keep up the great work!
I think we might be subscribed to the same people... But I'll be damned if I don't need more of this sort of content in my life. This is great!

Looks like the algorithm hath chosen thee young padawan!! Keep them videos pumping it is your time to shine.
i rarely actually like videos on youtube, but this was a good one. good job.
Subbed, the editing and jokes are on point
This video was fantastic, cant wait to see more
You deserve way more views and subs.
I love this game, I'm a sado-masochist myself so it make sense
I am so hoping for a Kenshi 2!
I look forward to playing this game while in some sort of fallout shelter.
Nice video. I was looking for such a style content.
Character get stuck? Order another character to pick you up. Use reset squad position as fast travel to base, [focus on character in base , quicksave in base, load [check reset squad position] boom everyone is home.]
I swear, this game is one of the games where I'll go "idk if I want to play that" but then I start playing and can't fucking stop
Idk why but my favorite shot is you running away from 12 cannibals while describing your character as more of a wanderer than an Olympic sprinter
I didn’t know I needed this in my life. Oh then, how I was asleep, I am now awakened.
Bruv WHAT?!?!? Man has 2.5k subs??? No lie I was sure this was like in the millions, atleast like 1 mil, just because of the quality. Insta sub my man, you're going places and I am here for the ride
Kenshi is a game that I should love, I played it for 50+ hours but I feel like,
the devs finished this game with the basics layed down for them but not improved, it would've been fine if you could mod the improvements, its possible in some cases but most of the time you won't find a mod that you consider QoL.
They wanted to start working on Kenshi 2 as soon as possible, Kenshi 2 will be a great game if they take all the features of kenshi 1 and improve them like it should've been done in this game.
Yeah I have very high hopes for kenshi 2, honestly probably too high
You somehow managed to complain about... what, exactly? You whined, and yet didn't say anything at all. "I wish it were better." What a pointless comment.
@@kraanz The game does lack... hm... "side" content. It's pretty much bludgeoning hobos of various power levels until you are literally too beefed up to die from anything. Or you build a base and play tower defense.
What's already there is good enough for the circumstances the game was created under, but it otherwise lacks complexity to keep you invested in the long term.
@@LecherousLizard Okay, I agree, much better put.
