I just ordered Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and this is my first time of cleaning and repaste the laptop (after 4/5 years, it was my dad's but now he gave it to me) im kinda excited and scared. Any suggestion man?

      @DeepteshLovesTECH  3 года назад +6

      Sorry? After how many years?! 😵
      You'll definitely expect a "Blanket" of dust over the heat sink fins. Just clean that up.
      And obviously to do that you need to remove the heat sink assembly and then you'll expose the CPU/GPU. Just rub off the dry thermal paste.. should be easily removed with paper towel.. or just any cloth actually as I expect the paste to be bone dry.
      Only thing you need to take care is while removing the back panel or anything...do slowly so that you don't rip off any cables. Everything else is just:
      Unplug, lift, clean, repaste, plug'em all back. Done.

      @@graze1177 you have to remove the HDD if it prevents you from removing your back panel like in my case. Otherwise it's fine.

    How long does these temps last before you need to change the thermal paste again?

    • @DeepteshLovesTECH
      @DeepteshLovesTECH  3 года назад +2

      Ideally you should change every 6 months.. as dust builds up blocking the heat sink fins. So while cleaning, why not repaste it...

    • @Igor_servant_of_Philemon
      @Igor_servant_of_Philemon 3 года назад +3

      The paste itself does not expire or go bad that quickly. It may dry out over the course of 5-10 years.
      However, it must be replaced every time the heatsink is disassembled from the cpu/gpu.
      Laptops clog easily with dust and other residue. How frequently you need to clean the laptop depends on how often you use it and how dusty its environment is. Usually you should do it every 6 months in dirty environments (like using the laptop on a bed) or every 2 years with very clean environments (frequently wiped desk in a frequently dust wiped room).
      A few laptop manufacturers have implemented ways to remove the cooler fan without removing the whole heatsink/heatpipe, allowing to clean it to a high degree without needing to reapply thermal paste.

      Late answer but I hope it still helps.
      The screws in a normal laptop are standard PH0 sized philips head (the + head, for everyone not american) screws. A few manufacturers are known to use tri-wing screws (they look like the mercedes logo) on low budget Laptops instead, to prevent the average people from opening the devices.
      If you damaged a screw while attempting to get it out, try putting a rubber band in between the screw head and the screwdriver and pressing the screwdriver strongly on the screw while turning it.
      An absolute last resort is wd40. It is not conductive so you don't damage anything, but it is still oil based so it is a nightmare to clean up. Also it might leak into the contact points of ribbon cables which are fragile and hard to clean. So wd40 is an absolute last resort that should never be used if it can be avoided in any way.

      Exactly what iam experiencing right now. I got this same paste but it seems like a fake one. My legion never crossed 100 degree but after applying this paste temp went upto 106 degree. I have done some research and found out that this particular paste is a fake one

      @@thespectator3312 sorry for your experience. My temps are only 2°C higher on average, ever since I repasted in March :) Either you didn't clean your heat sink or you didn't apply the paste properly. Even 150/- local paste will give you big improvements in temps if you clean the heatsinks properly.

      @@thespectator3312 it might have pumped out or dried. Kryonaut is only good for 80 degrees, any higher than that, it breaks down. Look it up, that is why kryonaut is not good for laptops which run hot, yours was already running @100 degrees Celsius even before the repaste.

      @@vectivuz1858 thanks for the information. My cpu temps are lower now, idle 32-35, gaming 50-65, but my gpu get warmer at 65 degrees Celsius. Stock, it never crossed 59. Do you think i should replace vram pads, since i have removed heatsink more than 20 times while applying different thermal paste.
