- This is a loose, gestural portrait sketch in charcoal from start to finish. It is a very loose interpretation focusing on form over likeness. About 20 minutes in real time & shown here 4x speed. I hope you enjoy it! For a small channel like mine, a comment and a ‘like’ really helps to get the video seen, so please do so if you can. If you have any questions, just leave them in the comments and I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for watching!

👍👍👍
Love it! I'm a big fan of your work. Can't wait to be as good as you. someday ... someday.
Thanks so much, and best of luck with your drawing! You'll get there, it's just a long gradual process.
You always show top-notch drawings!👍
Thanks my friend!
👌👏
Im doing a charcoal portrait of a friend and want her to send me some photos for reference. She just has a good iPhone but no studio or lights/reflectors etc. What is the easiest thing for her to do to achieve some good Rembrandt lighting in this instance? Would it be best to shoot in colour then desaturate or shoot in B&W? Or is there a different lighting that suits charcoal sketching that gives good emotive and artistic effects for reference photos?
I sometimes will desaturate color from a photo reference if it's too distracting but color or black and white are both fine. I personally like Rembrandt light but it's a matter of preference really, A fairly strong light coming from above, slightly in front & slightly off to the side is a simple explanation of it, but a google search of Rembrandt lighting will give you a more thorough explanation of the setup. Hope that helps!
Great Inspirational works.
Can you please suggest me 80lb drawing paper online shopping
Thanks! I use Strathmore 400 series drawing paper quite a bit.
@@JeffHainesArt thank you so much sir
Watching you really is incredible. Thank you so incredibly much.
May I ask, on patreon, is it voice over tutorials with line arts?
I think I would be too scared to try without one. I guess I’m not really afford to, but I dream of being able to .
Thank you so incredibly much
Hi Paige, Thanks so much! Drawing isn’t anything to fear, just try to relax and have fun exploring your process and progress. I have a lot more videos on Patreon and most have commentary while I’m drawing. They’re not really tutorials, more of a discussion of technique and tips while I’m drawing. They are meant to be instructional and informative, just not structured in a step-by-step way. I hope you give it a try and best of luck with your drawing!
genius!!
