Amazing day of fishing and perfect weather to cook this large Grass Rockfish on the spot! Used 3/4oz weight, black 4.5 inch Keitech Swimbait.
I left the scales and skin on the fish and it protected the meat from the high heat. Cooked nicely, about 15 minutes on each side without much seasoning. Next time I'll bring back the butter.

I couldn't help but laugh looking back at that day it was such a bummer you loosing pretty much everything to the salty sea water not to mention the otter. I have never in my life been interested in anything that has to do with fishing....Been invited many times and have always declined, just don’t see the fun in it....but my God, this guy does it right, true passion for the fisherman life, I have watched him for months now and have honestly thought of buying a rod and getting to it!

NorCal coastline definitely needs more love, so thanks for this! Also always appreciate the mini tutorials mid-video for things like knot-tying, leader-making, and _especially_ swimbaits which is definitely the weakest part of my fishing game.

If you want to have a more subtle and quiet cast to not spook the fish, try side casting so the bait is closer to the water surface. Controlling your spool with your off hand can help the bait from canon balling into the water. Very common tactic that bass fisherman use in shallow water. Works shallow or deep. Tight lines!

I can't get out of my chair I could just stare at these videos all day it's prolly my new 4k uhd tv I'm watching this on I dunno but it's hypnotic. What a great day you started caught a fish an compensated for the weight on your lure. Not to use to seeing the different type of fish you catching our fish here different from there but love salt water fish especially with the ingredients you adding to the fish....Good job!!!!!
arent you going to burn off the paint on the ammo box before cooking on it? some paint, when burned can put off poisonous gasses. you might want to burn off the pain before using it again. your videos are great.....keep them coming. take care....
Todd Bushcrafter I mean the ammo can was altered to be a grill so I’d have to assume the guy who made it kept harmful chemicals out
Use the scales as a natural timer and protection from drying out. Once the scales are all burned off, then that means your fish is fully cooked.

I'm Chinese and sometimes when we are at a restaurant and we order live marbled goby, we can request that the chef deep fry the scales for us, serves as a good appetizer. Try it sometime. Just deep fry it plain and season with some salt when it's done. Crispy salty scales.

Have you ever thought about having a follow up lure? For example you are using a dark swim bait so it's a dark color "obviously" and rather quite as it goes threw the water. Maybe for a follow up lure use a flashy jerk bait with rattles. I do this for specks and red's off the Texas coast and it works really well for large mouth bass also.
Mats have you considered putting a stinger hook on the very tail end of your swimbait? i.e. a trap rig...swimbaits are notorious for getting bitten off at the tail. Putting a trap rig won't change the tail motion either.

I don't get why people say one shouldn't eat scales either. They don't have any properties that could cause one harm aside from maybe a Barramundis giant ones that could cut your throat right open. But stuff like trout and some smaller seafish are no problem at all.
