  • I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

I had a thought when you spoke about the grating. Rather than a triangular shape, how well do you think a "star-shaped" one would work? Lots of little nooks to try to fill up for the beavers, and lots of surface area for water to enter through.

I recently learned that the orange staining on the outside of the beavers teeth is a type of iron which reinforces the teeth making them more durable. It only deposits on the outside of the tooth so the inside wears down faster creating a slicing edge perfect for chewing away at wood! Nature is amazing!

Like other rodents, the teeth are also continually growing, so they *need* to chew on wood to wear it down. It can actually injure or even kill the beaver if they don't. This is why you'll see chew marks at beaver height on anything wooden beside an active beaver pond, even if it doesn't otherwise make sense for the beaver to chew on it (which is the same for many other rodents too).

Flumioxazin is the Active ingredient in Clipper.
    Is flumioxazin toxic to humans?
The data available at this time indicate that flumioxazin is highly phytotoxic; however, it is unlikely that flumioxazin will pose a risk of acute or chronic toxicity to non-target animals. Flumioxazin is relatively unstable and its potential to leach to groundwater is low. Or so they say.

The reason a beavers cutting teeth are orange colored is because their body infuses iron into the calcium that makes up the outer layer of enamel on the teeth to make them harder for gnawing trees.

Because of watching your videos, I was not only able to unplug a culvert and redo the drainage ditch on a property; I was also able to tell the property owner what the issue was with the culvert and how to prevent a recurrence. I also knew not to remove the debris from the bottom edge of the culvert since the drainage ditch has been blocked for 30 years and the water would undermine the culvert. I was able to do the whole job properly thanks to you. I appreciate it! 😊

    Re: the posted notice:
Clipper is an aquatic herbicide (not a pesticide). it is used by several states to control invasive water-living plants considered weeds.
There are many information sheets from various sources online about Clipper, Including notifications by the state of Connecticut regarding applications of this herbicide during the last week of June this year to various bodies of water in that state.
This herbicide is also available for purchase by the public for use (I can find nothing restricting its use to licensed professionals and the company's website has testimonials from private land owners). The info also notes that the herbicide is safe around domestic animals as well as wildlife such as frogs.

Haha, good thing Ghostie was posted on the outflow camera! Anyway, I saw a video recently showing a beaver actually gnawing on wood, and I was a little surprised because most of the work of biting is done by the lower jaw, and the bottom teeth are even bigger and scarier than the upper teeth. The amount of wood those little fuzz chompers can gouge out all at once is kinda sobering--you definitely would NOT want to get one of those stuck to your leg, because you would not be dealing merely with a set of puncture wounds, rather you'd have a huge chunk of flesh carved offa yas. If you used the Theme from Jaws music on your beaver chase video, you wouldn't be far off. :)

Pesticides?! Nooooo! This will affect everything growing natural and organic certified down stream. Do they put everyone down stream on notice?
What your doing though is great for all the down stream vegetation, by ensuring water access. I just wish it wasn't polluted.
    Awesome channel! Subbed 💦😎👍💦

One of my favorites! That pond was so tranquil and the sunset and scenery made this very enjoyable! Thanks Post and Ghost!

I hope someday we can make something that's friendly to both roads and Beavers.
Beaver gonna beaver, so we should try and work around them so we can minimize maintenance and minimum disrupting the Beavers.

I've seen enough SCUBA disaster training videos to be a little concerned by putting oneself in a draining body of water with Delta P.
