  • As a civilian, prior Marine aircrew, I talk about my experience from the start of the process to the packet, through the board, and selection to become an Army Helo Pilot. SIFT ACFT Flight Physicals...I've got my seat at flight school and want to pass situational awareness to anyone else who has the desire to try this.

    Small world. I work at HMHT-302 on New River.
    My entire career has been Aviation. I’ve worked at a MAG, Base Operations/flight clearance, Operations Chief, ATC with the JASDF (Foreign exchange), air passenger freight/pax terminal, Aerial Observer (MV-22), school house for the MV-22 (VMMT-204), school house for the CH53E (HMHT-302), and recently earned my private pilots license.
    HQMC just approved my inter service transfer to the Army. I’m going in as enlisted first primarily because I want to attend Airbone, Air assault, Sapper, and Ranger School. I will also be doing college along with everything else that adds to my resume and makes me more competitive for the WO board. I’ll be a 15P (Aviation Operations specialist) the same job I’ve had in the Marine Corps since 2016.
    A great benefit that comes with being a 15P is that I’ll already know the job. I’ll just have to learn the Army’s way of doing it of course. Another great benefit is that after I am able to display that I’m great at my job, I’ll be able to schedule myself to attend all of my desired schools (Airborne, Air assault, Sapper, and Ranger School) and successfully complete them all within a time window I have in my head because towards the middle of my contract I’m going to start the process for the WOFT board.
    Aviation is my passion. My dream is to make it to the airlines and utilize being a WO pilot in the Army as a major stepping stone to make it there. I want it more than life itself. I am destined to make this a reality.
    Side note: when you said “there’s more to life than sitting in an office waiting to die” it hit me hard because I’ve been telling my Marines that for years.

    Hello warrant officer. I only have a high school diploma and I have been working as an electrician past 12 years. I love aviation and always wanted to work with aircrafts. I was a navy cadet NCO for many years where I was trained by Marines. Now I’m 34 and my army recruiter told me best option for me is a to enlist in the army as an aviation electrician or mechanic then build my package and apply for a warrant officer pilot. Please share your thoughts on the best way to go about it if I want to become a warrant officer pilot in the army. Thank you.

    • @kemardudley156
      @kemardudley156 Год назад +2

      You’re already pass the maximum age for going through Warrant Officer Flight Training, and would need an age waiver at this point. You should talk to another recruiter before you enlist, spend time doing something else, get older, and they don’t accept your age waiver.

    • @FAZILJOY
      @FAZILJOY Год назад +1

      @@kemardudley156 thank you. I was thinking the same. I have a friend who’s a colonel in the Air Force he will give me an recommendation letter if that helps with my age waiver. I think all recruiters will try to get me to enlist first and ask me to try for warrant officer pilot after. I’m physically fit and will take the ASVAB in a week I will probably have good score on it too. I’m also studying for SIFT. Do you think I can find a recruiter that will help me to prepare my package and join as an warrant officer pilot directly as an civilian?

    • @Zack1931
      @Zack1931 Год назад +2

      @@FAZILJOYactive duty army has a street to seat option that I heard they offer that's your best bet to guarantee that you become a pilot. My intentions were to join as a warrant officer pilot. They told me the same thing enlist first then you can apply to be a pilot. I'm about to do the state board today. I enlisted September 1st 2020. So keep in mind it could take a while. The whole packet took me over a year to get together. A lot of things will be out of your hands like going up the chain of command for a letter of recommendation from the battalion commander took around 4 months. I'm not entirely sure about how the street to seat works but if flying is the only thing you want to do then it's the safer bet. You'll have to find a recruiter willing to put in some work, which might be the most difficult thing.

    • @FAZILJOY
      @FAZILJOY Год назад +2

      @@Zack1931 I’m spoke to few recruiters and they all said because I’m 34 I have to try to become a pilot after I enlist and if I can do exceptionally well on my ASVAB and SIFT I have a good chance to get an interview with the aviation board. But if I don’t join before I turn 35 I might have to get more waiver and it will be more difficult for me to get recommendations.I’m taking the Asvab next week so let’s see what I can do from there.

    • @Zack1931
      @Zack1931 Год назад +2

      @@FAZILJOY you're on the right track. Take the asvab see how you do. You need at least a 110 GT then get them to let you take the SIFT. How long til you turn 35?
      If you want to join the army regardless even if you can't be a pilot then by all means go for it. If you only want to be a pilot then really push for street to seat option. If you want to be a crewmember and fly there are other options where you can give yourself backup plans that still get you in the helicopter flying (just not as a pilot)
