BD 86 is my favorite Drumline which also includes the fact that Steve Campbell-center snare 🥁 was my high school drum instructor and who by the way scored a perfect 100 that year in the individual snare drum category! Hats off to all the 86 Drumline and to the staff and especially Tom And Catherine Float!

Loved '86 BD. I really liked '82 BD battery too (before the whole pit thing started). Check out Float's '81 Spirit of Atlanta line. Believe it's the largest ever with 12 snares, 7 tenors, 7 bass, 6 cymbals, two mallets, and 1 stationary timp player. 36 total. We had 32 in the '82 Cavaliers line I marched in. 8 snares, 4 quads, 4 tri's, 6 bass, 4 cym, 4 mallets, 2 stationary timp players.

This is what Drum Corps should be about, those guys going out there, giving their all with no enhancement from technology at all.

Thank you for the post. Tom Float had 12 snares his first year in 1982 with the Blue Devils. It was a wall of percussion.

Damn, this hits hard. He was our instructor in the mid 90’s when I was in high school drum line. Super funny guy. May he Rest In Peace.

Spirit 79-81 here. A great memory was that in the middle of a rehearsal he would cut......and take on "Nature Walks"...sometime through folks back yard.....sometimes with trampolines....now that was fun.

Thanks for showing 86 blue devils. I marched in 70's but really like 80's corps. With the strict "tick" system prior to 80's, the corps could only let it all out marching wise in the last few minutes of the show, when the field judges stopped marking tenths of a point off for every micro mistake. The 80's allowed much more creativity! Since the blue devils have won so many titles, they would a great example of the changes in corps in each decade. Just an idea. Thank you so much for these segments. -- Wayne - Guardsmen 75 and 76.

Actually, the tic system lasted through 83. 84 was the first yer of the purely build-up system.

Dianne Fashing. Marched with her in the years before this. She is awesome! I was BD pit, ‘83-‘85. Great years. Think ‘84 stands up.

Thanks for watching David! I love that show! Everything was just perfect for me! Great hornline, great percussion, great guard, great concept! It is so crazy how effortless it seemed, but I know there was a lot of hard work. Thank you so much for watching!

The thing that’s a crime by the tv people is not showing the snare 🥁 line visual at 6:41 which is called: The Spyder where half the drums have hands up while the other hands are down and the split across the drums makes it look like a spider web going right to left down the snare line! Absolute CRIME not to show it instead just watching the Roger North drummers just standing there playing nothing 😡😠😤🤯

Which guy of the “trash can trio” was Tom Float?
