That harai goshi was absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully we'll see more no gi judo stuff as the submission grappling game evolves. Wrestling style single and double leg takedowns seem to be higher percentage but a well time hip throw or foot sweep seems to put you in a much more favourable position. We just need some more people to teach these things in a no-gi context.
Ronda is great. Getting a bronze at the Olympics means you're among the 3 best in the world. That's a huge accomplishment. Her grappling technique is light years ahead of any MMA fighter, including men.
The average BJJ guy will not outperform the average judo guy, unless the Judoka trains in "olympic judo" which is more throws down groundwork. Traditional Judokas aim for the finish since in Judo you are taught to finish your opponent as fast as possible. Kosen Judo is the Judo style which strictly trains in ground fighting. It depends on the fighter, what area he or she trains in most.
olympic medal in Judo is a solid and underestimated base for the right people to get into MMA. In a similar way as Jiu-Jitzu is. If you watch Royce Gracie's videos taking the best of other martial arts, the Judo guy gave him the most trouble.
she should have to compete in mens advanced, most tournaments dont have any top level girls competing. kyra gracie, penny thomas, ect pretty much only compete at mundials, adcc, or pan ams. Would like to see rousey at adcc next year.
@iandemagi That actually was an armbar, its just done with the legs. she traps the back of the elbow against her thigh and stretches it out with the other leg. Its a nasty arm bar.
I've trained in both judo and BJJ. I'm a fan of both. The average BJJ guy generally tends to be a bit better at strictly ne-waza/ groudfighting because that's almost their entire focus. However, a judoka is going to dominate in terms of control if the match is expanded to include throws and doesn't begin from the typical BJJ kneeling position. Of course, you can be better in any aspect if you train enough, which is why Ronda is dominating regardless of her opponents' styles.
Compared to BJJ players crossing over to win a judo grand slam or Olympic gold. Or trying to win a freestyle or Greco Roman wrestling world championships and Olympic gold medal. I’m not saying judokas or wrestlers are always dominating bjj players at their own game, simply not true I’m just saying that judo players and wrestlers have a better shot at becoming bjj world champions and ADCC champions.
I think that if you have well known credentials in Judo like Rousey does, you have to compete in Advanced. Collegiate wrestlers are always pushed into the advanced divisions at tournaments, so yeah Rousey is basically sandbagging if she's in anything other than advanced division. The other option would be to compete in like men's intermediate or something like that.
Against a bb on the feet she'll do some damage for sure but the ground transitions on the ground are different. Thats why you can pull or jump guard in sport bjj because that is the focus, ground. That chick was way out classed. No one art is the best they all compliment eachother. Its good to see her kicking butt in mma.
@christlicker Can't tell, but looks like it could be Udegarami from scarf hold. I haven't done that in a while but when you are pinning the opponent, with your left side towards the ground.. its with opponent's upper arm on your left thigh, forearm and wrist under your left calf.
@k0d0kan I totally agree with you Rhonda needs to be in the advance division hands down, just for the fact that she's a world class judo fighter,i mean just with her throws alone puts her a step above many jj females fighters already!!!
@MrRkellz there are other nastiers throws. In fact depending on the Dojo, they will either no teach them, or if they teach them you are not allowed to apply them during randori. There are throws that can break ribs, and there are some throws thar were originally neck breakers throws. Judo modified them into standing arm bars. Heck someone landed on my bladder 2 weeks ago, and I thought I was going to piss blood..That is Judo
What about him? He's not the only one ever to win larger opponents if that's what you were getting at and doesn't mean size would not be an advantage. Rousey isn't exactly clueless on the ground either, so I just think it's bit of a fetch to say for sure that Kyra would win especially as people who have rolled with both have said that neither is clearly better.
though it will only start in the kneeling position in mostly only in BJJ matches. In MMA or judo a BJJ practioner won't have that advantage. another way of looking at it is you're saying judo wont dominate in BJJ rules, well ofc since the competition's rules are going to be in the favor of its original art. like saying how the taekwondo fighter is going to dominate under WTF TKD rules against the kickboxer where you are not allowed to use hands.
All should love or respect Ronda Rousy, lots of hate speech coming from brazilian gayjitsus that do not understand the grappling game, if they did, they would abandon the dishonorable notion that the gracies invented or modified jujitsu. Bjj is not jujitsu, bjj is diluted inferior Judo. Ronda has proven that a Judoka with deplorable stricking skills, will always outgun any other martial art, as long as they stick to the principles of Judo, the true heir of Samurain Jujutsu, a killing art.
@unclebraddah japanese jiu-jiu jitsu aka ju jutsu is where judo originated from, and then BJJ was refined from Judo by the Gracie's, so my history isn't wrong, you just chose to go further back to where judo began
@gdoh No. Three points for the takedown straight to sidecontrol, and the sub finished the entire exercise in number-keeping. SUBMISSION! The way champions leave their mark. - E
Sandbagging? All I ever hear is how a Black belt in Judo is only at the level of a low end blue belt in jj anyway. LOL. Honestly, I'll bet Rousey could easily hang with female black belts in JJ and she doesn't even do JJ as far as i know.
@CrystalBJudo I am not talking crap, I'm speaking the truth. Do you know what sandbagging is or do I need to get you a definition from the dictionary? At any rate, I don't really hold it against her, because like I said, sandbagging is the norm.
Did that other girl have any idea who Ronda was? Can you imagine going to a little tournament like this and then end up matched with an olympic medalist? Crazy
I hate that argument that a judoka is only like a blue belt JJ. People need to learn history. Both are derivatives of Japanese Jiu Jitsu. You think there are not some translations there? Either way Rousey is legit. Judo is defintely Legit!
@grimsgrinded You do realize I was talking about grappling competitions, right? Hillary Williams regularly competes in men's divisions at NAGA events etc.
@karakteran In an interview on sherdog she stated that her Olympic pursuit left her completely broke with no real world work experience. All she ever knew was Judo and there is really no future in it.
Ronda Rousey is a Judo Olympic medalist and Women's MMA Champion of the world. What accomplishments have you given Judo or Martial Arts for that matter? It's easy to cower behind a keyboard but in real life I doubt that comment would ever come out of your mouth in front of Ronda.
Nice throw a combination ogoshi and harai goshi....look the referee ....he is scared. Ronda rousey is a good judoka......she is an expert ...its not rare.
@OVERCAPITALIZE This b.s. that Maeda or Kimura were ground specialist is morronic. They were complete Judokas. The goal of Jujutsu (killing art and Judo's predecesor) was to kill the opponent. If you do not kill during the throw by snapping the neck, then you must finish him off in the ground. So to say that Judo is lackin gin the ground is moronic. and each time a Judoka mops the floor with brazilian gayjitsus they always have excuses...
Are you serious? "barely got a bronze at olympics" You can't even spell olympics so i'm sure you've never been olympic material. But to answer your question she got into mma cause she likes it and it pays more than judo.
@CrystalBJudo 1st part to Mr. Crystal's Father Alright, sir, I see what you are saying. Thank you for clarifying. I take back what I said. 2nd part to Miss Crystal I hardly meant to offend you or Ronda. Still, girls like you are even more attractive when you are angry. A pleasure to look at. If you have got more videos of yourself or Ronda competing, please send me a link. Agtren.
@karakteran er....um.......barely got bronze.......at the olympics? LOL.....yeah...that's nothing. I did that last week. Judo in the US is a joke. Comp judo is turning into more of a joke every year. Ronda did the right thing in leaving and going to fight. There was no real future for her in Judo in the US.
you know why? cause judo doesnt give you the feeling that what you are doing is real. judo is just a sport. and you cry like a baby, why you even care why she left judo? so you are saying bronze medal in olympics its bad? what medal did you got?
holy crap i saw that throw in person. never knew it was ronda until i seen this video!
The match in the back is pretty TIGHT! There's a good throw too.
No, one guy tried to make a throw and the other just put him in the floor with strenght, No judo there.
11 years later and I still agree with this statement, we need more of this in no gi submission grappling
You know it's a good throw when the referee flinches.
Also, I think I'm in love.
Ronda is great. Getting a bronze at the Olympics means you're among the 3 best in the world. That's a huge accomplishment. Her grappling technique is light years ahead of any MMA fighter, including men.
Yeah... both girls are awesome! Ronda is immensely talented and very gracious. Great to see good clean competition.
I never heard that Kosen Judo trained strictly ground fighing, I have always heard they train throws like any other Judoka
Not to mention she learn from a 10 Dan Judoka
hahahahaha even the ref was like :O
That was a devasting Sweeping hip throw! Props.
olympic medal in Judo is a solid and underestimated base for the right people to get into MMA.

In regard to all the "this martial art vs that martial art" banter: I train in BJJ, Judo and Muay Thai.... and I love all of them.
It's a shoulder lock from scarf hold. She's basically using her legs to apply an Americana.
@iandemagi That actually was an armbar, its just done with the legs. she traps the back of the elbow against her thigh and stretches it out with the other leg. Its a nasty arm bar.

this is simply not true Judoka do not all dominate in bjj tournaments
@@bigmember5908 true but judo players and wrestlers have a much better chance at winning BJJ tournaments and even the ADCC world championship.

the ref's wince to the throw was the best
@christlicker

@k0d0kan I totally agree with you Rhonda needs to be in the advance division hands down, just for the fact that she's a world class judo fighter,i mean just with her throws alone puts her a step above many jj females fighters already!!!
Well, it was a little longer than her Davis fight.. I think..
@MrRkellz there are other nastiers throws. In fact depending on the Dojo, they will either no teach them, or if they teach them you are not allowed to apply them during randori. just beautiful
You know it's a good video if there's an angry internet fight on the comments.
pure badass
YOU GO GIRL. Very nice.
What submission did she use?
What about him? He's not the only one ever to win larger opponents if that's what you were getting at and doesn't mean size would not be an advantage. Rousey isn't exactly clueless on the ground either, so I just think it's bit of a fetch to say for sure that Kyra would win especially as people who have rolled with both have said that neither is clearly better.
much respect for ronda rousey !
she is almost as strong as a man
You guys swear Ronda can't beat BB BJJ's. She already have in MMA! Come on.
@OVERCAPITALIZE Did he now? Where does he clearly state that?
Ronda Rousey: 💪💪💪💪❤️❤️❤️❤️
@CrystalBJudo Wait, why would Ronda participate in beginner's instead of advanced? Sandbagging, much?
@nowaydo Are you talking about a Japanese Armbar?
The other looked so pissed looking at Ronda like "who TF are you? :O"
What division and weight class is this? Anybody know? I'm impressed by this girl.
I dont think I would have the balls to clinch up with an olympic judoka, I would be pulling guard off the beginning handshake haha
@unclebraddah Stop. Maeda clearly stated he was in SUMO before he took JUDO.
Trap the arm with your legs and just press the shoulder down.
Awesome throw!
though it will only start in the kneeling position in mostly only in BJJ matches. Wow Roussey won by something other than arm bar!
The Rousey haters are getting MAAD OLD really quick.

I'm on tonight, you know my hips don't lie..
@gdoh No. Three points for the takedown straight to sidecontrol, and the sub finished the entire exercise in number-keeping.
SUBMISSION! The way champions leave their mark. - E

Any videos of those?

plus there is hardly any money in judo, people still need to pay bills you know
@Dudongo86 deep over hook instead of grabbing belt and grabbing elbow instead of sleeve.
lmao that asian chick got OWNED
@phamax111 Thank you, in my country No Gi is not very popular so I have never tried this Harai.
CAUSE U DONT GET FUCKING PAID.
@grimsgrinded You do realize I was talking about grappling competitions, right? Hillary Williams regularly competes in men's divisions at NAGA events etc.
ronda es la mejor
@karakteran shes the champ now homie
LOL, did you see the ref, I think he wanted to call Ippon!
Got me...
@karakteran In an interview on sherdog she stated that her Olympic pursuit left her completely broke with no real world work experience. All she ever knew was Judo and there is really no future in it.

Poetry...
Most likely a straight armbar with the legs doing the sub.
Kosen Judo FTW!
There's more money in MMA. Plus maybe she is better at mixing it up than with just straight Judo rules.
@SlipNRip Maeda was a jiu-jitsu practitioner then entered Judo competition.
The guy in the background gets slammed
@karakteran Because you don't get paid.
@karakteran I wasn't aware that you weren't good if you wree an Olympic medalist. That's news to me.
they got the name right! massacre
Nice throw a combination ogoshi and harai goshi....look the referee ....he is scared.
Ronda rousey is a good judoka......she is an expert ...its not rare.
no money in it
@CrystalBJudo So she chose beat up on the unsuspecting beginners. What a feat for an Olympic Silver Medalist. I kid, I kid. Everybody sandbags.

@k0d0kan you do realize that modern day BJJ came from Judo right?
@Nicoya48 haha, any martial art is a way of life.
@SlipNRip ummm...you need to check your history again. BJJ came from Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. Judo was the sport version of Jiu-Jitsu.
Judo Baby!!!
I could watch 0:10 forever.
Are you serious? "barely got a bronze at olympics" You can't even spell olympics so i'm sure you've never been olympic material. But to answer your question she got into mma cause she likes it and it pays more than judo.
