glad you found a use for it. I love these sharpeners because I am into sharpening charcoal and pastel pencils. They effortlessly sharpen my stabilo pastels and Generals charcoal pencils. I respect though that some would prefer a long point for pencils. I too have a KUM long point. Unfortunately, it is hard to find replacement blades for the KUM and I do not like repurchasing the whole sharpener. The blades for this M&R are readily available. So I have learned to live with the standard point even for shading. These sharpeners come in three other styles, the standard looking single hole, the standard looking double hole and the bullet shape.
actually I just checked and I am happy to learn that the M&R replacement blades are exactly the same size as the ones in my KUM automatic LongPoint. So I have the best of both worlds. Nevertheless, like you I found some pencils (e g. FC 9000 Junbo) and even pastels (e.g. Conte pastels) are too fat for the standard hole sharpener. By the way the M&R replacement blades come in a pack of 10 and cost about $6.50 before taxes and shipping on Amazon.

Large hole is great for very soft or pastel giving a short point,
The large hole takes the jumbo pencils from Lyra and Cretacolor and others with ease.

Does the KUM AUTOMATIC LONG POINT (multiple slots) have all the housing made of plastic? Or does it have any part made of metal apart from the blades?
Which one sharpens a longer tip: the all-magnesium KUM MASTERPIECE (double slot) or the all-magnesium KUM LONG POINT 400-5L (single slot)?
And compared to the all brass M+R CASTOR (single slot)?
Can you get spare blades? I go through them pretty fast... Thanks!
I read a comment where you can buy spares and that they are interchangeable with Kum. Personally I cannot confirm that.
I have recently done a review in my channel and my conclusion is the same. M+R (triangular in my video) has a shorter point than KUM automatic long point sharpener. I prefer KUM of course.
Hey, have you ever tried the Kum Ellipse? I've had it for a week or so, and it's rather nice.
It's the quality of the wood. In fact, put in some cheaper wood ( not cedar) pencil and that super sharp quality-blade will get blunt much faster... and certainly when you continue sharpening you're pencils in the way you just demonstrated; twisting the pencil instead of the hand-sharpener. Know don't worry, you are absolutely normal! Cause 90% do it you're way.
The brass nugget, you pay for theheavy brass, the quality blades and a somewhat odd angle of the sharpening holes. Because I am with the other 10%, I prefer the brass bullet because of the angle that German quality steel is laying in it, makes sharpening by turning the sharpener and shaving the wood away by cutting rather then forced cutting by friction on the wood of the pencil. And since all wood comes of a living organism, it always loses from the harder brass, metal, magnesium and even the harder plastics and that is the only good news:
Don't worry and keep forcing and twisting you're pencils in that cone-hole... the geometrics and angle of the hole will stay intact and you won't have to buy an other sharpener.
(rationally, the cheapest metal sharpener with one of those m+r blades I would recommand and when only graphite I recommand you're own sharpened short German steel kitchen knife )
And don't be afraid to make you're hands dirty by letting gravity doing the work, what's the point of a heavy brass sharpener ???)

No, not yet. I'm sure it's just like the 8b but a microscopic difference. I did order the new 'Black' Lumos, which I believe contains the 9B along with the other soft pencils having 'carbon' added. Can't wait to try those out.

You are a great artist but I'm a numbers man and I can't stand a sharpener with a super short point! This sharpener fails imho! In closing I'm so envious of your talent! I love my master piece Kum!
Wayne Landry I'm a novice artist but thank you for saying that. I'm with you on the points. My preference for art or writing are the LONG points. Kum Masterpiece, Kum Longpoint, Big Triple, Helix and similar crank sharpeners are my favorite. Thanks for watching and commenting!
