How incredible is that? You have said a few different times that you feel like you are seeing things that few people do… that is such a true statement. You are running in a circle with sailors but out side of that little circle few do get to see what you are seeing. What a life you are setting yourself up for Max. I must say I may be a wee bit jealous. Thanks for sharing your journey my man!
Those British Seagull outboard motors are amazing. I still have the one my old pa bought new in 1968. Sadly my pa is no longer with us but the Seagull lives on!
At 1:35 you complain that the length is measured as 41 ft and that is 4 ft more then the actual length. However, 11.4 m is 37 ft 4.8 inch (1 ft = 0,3048 m, 1 inch = 0.0254 m) , so no reason to complain. Feel free to comment :)
Kneeling down like that in the sail loft is a bugger for the knees my darlings. I was once tiling the floor of a highly regarded British surgeon and he told me I was not only setting myself up for nasty knee problems but was, in a way, abusing our fabulous NHS. He was right on both counts, because although I didn't have knee pain then and never abused my knees like that again, I WAS inadvertently abusing the NHS, just as any 'risk taker' is. Now, 20 years later, I have very painful knees which lock up in the bent position and really hurt to unlock. They ache in the cold, if they remain unmoved for an hour or two, and are badly worn such that I face an operation or maybe two to try to rectify the problems I could have avoided. Please take care of your perfect young knees as, like it or not, they will - hopefully - one day be middle aged knees, and in that lovely surgeon's words will, "ache like a mother-fucker"!!!
Umm... That's not the US history I was taught about the Panama Canal. Though, admittedly, you can never fully trust what your own country teaches you about their role in anything. The Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty of 1903 granted the United States a 100-year lease on a 10-mile wide strip of land for the canal construction, included a one-time payment of $10 million to Panama, and established an annual annuity of $250,000. Additionally, the United States agreed to guarantee Panama's independence.

Good video! The Panama Canal is an unforgettable experience, surprised you want to sail to Mexico instead of French Polynesia.
