I was in Hokkaido for 3 days a could weeks ago, but I kept seeing Fighters stuff EVERYWHERE. Meanwhile in Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama in Japan I had to go out of my way to find any representation of NPB. It seemed like the entire island of Hokkaido is behind this team 100%
Of all things considered, I always thought that Fighters playing Home game in Tokyo outta respect of their remaining fanbase there and the fact that they still had a fan there was very neat. Imagine Calgary Flames and/or Winnepeg Jets play 1 home games in Atlanta every season. Or better, a Stadium Series of Winter Classic in Atlanta
They do not fight with a ham. They do not quarrel with ham. They are the Nippon-Ham…Fighters. Not ‘Ham Fighters.’ They do not fight WITH hams. They do not fight against nor OPPOSE ham. They are owned by the NIPPON HAM company. Do not call them the ‘Ham Fighters.’ Thank you.
It would be so much cooler if they were the ham fighters because their logo could be a man fighting a pig. And that would be a cool logo. Or a pig in a military uniform. Or a pig with boxing gloves.
Great job all around Gaijin Baseball. The history of the Fighters is one that is pretty cool and I didn't expect to have as many interesting parts to it as say the history of the previous five, but I am glad to be wrong and it's cool that the Fighters are still loved in their old home of Tokyo as much as they are in their new home of Sapporo in Hokkaido. Can't wait for the video on the Swallows. Also...I noticed in the description it said they are the Hokkaido Tokyo Yakult Swallows. Don't know if that was intentional or not but just wanted to let you know. Great video as always, man.
I remember seeing an mlb comparison for the fighters being the KC Royals. I thought it was fitting, the way the organizations are run. My first experience with the team was in 2016 and I recall seeing a YT video that showed the Japan series as a type of recap, subbed in English. I can’t find it anymore unfortunately.
Fun Fact: They moved out of the Sapporo Dome last season because the contract between the Dome Owner (Sapporo City) and the Fighters was skewed towards the Owners to reek out as much cash as possible from the Fighters. Resulting in not being able to raise salaries and losing their talents towards other teams (ie Michihiro Ogasawara and Daikan Yoh).
They may not be the Ham Fighters but I have noticed their Japanese fans call them "the Hams" in the comments of the highlights on the PL RUclips channel.
My Japanese isn't the best but it's something along the lines of "The pitch from Michael [Nakamura] Alex [Ochoa] hits a fly to left, this is the winning ball, Morimoto's got it! 44 years after their last championship, the Hokkaido Fighters have won it all" No remotely word for word but that's the general gist of it
Correction: Masayuki Dobashi, not Dobayashi.

I love the knight logo the fighters had, it reminds me of a power pros character literally called Knight who plays in full armor.

Sadly, the home games in Tokyo, as well as in other cities of Hokkaido, will be suspended from the coming season because of the new ballpark...
@@RicciChoi1109 well, let's the ticket profits break even first before thinking of any rural game and Tokyo game lol
That would be a great NHL idea for the Flames & Thrashers (Jets) to do. I would definitely attend that.

The canned ham incident in 1993 would change everything. Now EVERY F's fan has quarrel with ham.

Thanks for noticing the typo, fixed it
Thank you for this!

I heard the yawn ;-) but great stuff GB!! As a relatively young Fighters fan from outside Japan this video was very informative!

My favorite team! I love Hokkaido, and the weird little underdog team they have. Fascinating history too, thank you for showing it off
The real galaxy brained move is to call them the Ham Fighters despite knowing better. I mean c'mon, live a little!
What's the original video of that guy riffing on Mike Easler that you put in at the end? It's hilarious
It's not just Easler he's riffed on

@Gaijin Baseball watched it through twice tonight lol, about lost a lung I was laughing so hard, thank you man and great video!
Shohei Ohtani's first pro team before LA
I'm gonna start saying Ham Fighters even harder now.
10:40 - 10:45 - LOL
11:00 ouch lol we suck but we are nice guys if you’re not the Mariners
