Ordered 2 sets of your panel...in case I turned out to be a slow learner! Find the practice just what I needed. I have used rulers on my domestic machine for about 5 years and see there's a big difference. Thank you for such a thorough tutorial.
I’m brand new to rulers and longarm quilting, and I have to say your tutorials are the best I’ve seen. I’m learning so much! Thank you for filming and sharing these.
Thank you so much for the comment. I cannot believe these videos are three years old. I am so glad that they are continuing to be useful! Happy Quilting!
I'm watching this a couple of years after its making. This is so helpful and giving me tips on how to use rulers better (many chipped rulers and messing up the timing). I'm looking forward to seeing more. You're an excellent teacher, Michael. You've mastered online teaching!. Thank you.
One of the best videos on rulers that I have ever seen. Your descriptions are so good. I love how you give all the scenarios for what could and does happen. I just ordered your whole Baptist Fan set with the extension set as well. Love your quilting.
Hi Quilting Chick! Thanks so much for your comment. Made my day! I am recovering from surgery and needed a pick-me-up! So glad you view me as a good teacher! Happy Quilting! Michael
Thanks for both of these videos. I've watched one and two. I've had my longarm for about 2 years and I've gotten fairly proficient at all types of stippling. I bought your rulerwork 101 on your website. Wish me luck.
You are an EXCELLENT teacher. Thank you for sharing your talent of teaching with us. I finally am understanding working with rulers on my long arm, which is an old one without any automation. 🙌🏻
Hi Carol. Thank you so much! I love hearing that and I am so glad that the way I try to teach is helpful to you and others! Let me know how your quilting journey goes when you have time. Have a wonderful day. -Michael
So glad to hear that stitch in the ditch isn't always perfect!!! Especially on long arm. Domestic with walking foot - yes......long arm free motion? Not so much 😳 Great beginner video! There aren't many step by step beginner videos. I appreciate your time and I'm learning much.
A thousand thank you’s for posting this video. I bought a long arm last week and with this crazy pandemic there are no in-person classes available. I bought this ruler and thread to get started with ruler work. I wish I could buy the panel. Please post more videos.
I'm so glad that you found this online class and hopefully it continues to be a reference for you. Congrats on the longarm purchase! I'll continue to post as often as I can. Thank You!
Yay I received my 101 ruler today… perfect and flawless. ❤️❤️ I just took my spoonflower panel off my frame yesterday. It’s going back on tomorrow to practice the curves…
Just found you, this is an awesome video.Shared it with all my quilting groups in hopes of inspiring those who are scared of rulers and to hopefully get you more likes and subscribes. TY soooo much for this I've been wanting to do/learn this for a long time and just haven't been able too YOU are a BLESSING!!
Hi Dawn! Thanks so much for your nice comment. I am so glad you found me and are enjoying the free online ruler work class! It's very similar to what I used to be able to teach in person and I miss that so much. I am planning some Zoom classes soon. Keep an eye out. And if you have any questions, feel free to email me. Happy New Year! Michael
@@dawnbelair3246 hah ha. I know. my local quilt guild is still struggling with that, but more and more members have been learning. I'll make a video on how to join a zoom class here on my channel before I schedule one. How's that? LOL. Thanks again! Michael
Thanks for sharing your knowledge in a very enjoyable and informative video! So many "that's such a great way to make that stitch" moments. Hope to see more online classes from you.
Good afternoon! Happy New Year and hope you are staying safe. May I ask if ruler work with this type of intricacy can be done on a domestic machine? I do not have a longarm but would like to get into ruler work...thanks in advance.
Hi Mary Lou! This video is mostly geared towards how you use the rulers with a longarm, but Yes! Many of the same principles apply directly to domestic machine and the same designs can be created for sure! Some things are irrelevant and specific to either but not both. But yes - the rulers and designs can translate to domestic machine. One day I will film working on a domestic. Thank you for your question. Let me know if I cna be of further help! Michael
I am so excited to have found you, Michael. I am a very long time quilter, but pretty new to the longarm. You are a very good teacher - and you never talked down to us. You mentioned Spoonflower and adding a link to the panel you are using. I'd love that link, please and thank you AND do you have a video on how to properly mount quilts to the frame? I would sure like to learn that, too. I'm only using a Q'nique 15R and a Cutie frame...so nothing too big. Still...understand and experience are what I need.
Hi Cari - thank you for your question and comments! Here is the link to the panel: www.spoonflower.com/en/fabric/9030331-rulerworkpanel1-by-quartersquaredquiltco_ The link to my Loading the Frame video is here: ruclips.net/video/4YU2Kya5vnU/видео.html This is an older video, so I might update in the near future, but it is still basically how I do. Happy Quilting! Michael
Michael you should post your web site so people can purchase your rulers. I had to get a magnifying glass and stop the video to try to read what you were using.
Hi Lucy. Thanks for the comment. I'm probably a better teacher than I am a salesman...LOL. I will make a note of that and make sure to make access on how to purchase more prominent. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I hope my videos are helpful.
Hi Linda. The panel is available through Spoonflower. They do all the work. Here is the link. www.spoonflower.com/en/fabric/9030331-rulerworkpanel1-by-quartersquaredquiltco_ ***Please note - their default length is a fat-quarter. You need to change that length to 1-Yard. Then buy as many as you want. But do not but fat-quarters - you won't be happy. Wish I could change that, but it's all Spoonflower. THANK YOU! -Michael
Thanks for your question. My favorite is the smaller ruler base. However it takes some getting used to when using very large rulers since you have to be mindful to keep pressure only where the base. With the larger base, you have more surface to rely on, but less quilting area due to taking up more space. But my go-to is the smaller one.
Hello Alicia. Everything is in stock other than the Fan Set which will be back in stock tomorrow. The website shows In Stock then sometimes shows “can be backordered” which is confusing. It means it’s also an item that can be backordered when it’s out of stock. But it’s in stock. Weird I know. The panel is always avail through Spoonflower as noted. Happy Quilting! Thank you! Michael
Hi Marla. Thanks for your question. If I were to pick only one curved ruler, I would probably go with the 10 or the 12. If you can ask yourself what type of quilts you most likely come across to quilt and if you can determine if they are block based and what size the blocks are, that can help you decide. Example: Scrap quilts with lots of small blocks under 8", then smaller curves would be best, so maybe the 8 or 10. if you think most of the quilts you would quilt have larger blocks, like 9"-12", then maybe the 12. OR if you think you want very intricate quilting designs that are smaller, then the 6, 8, 10. Or larger quilting motifs, then the 12, 14, 16. Safe bets are that you would use the 10 and the 12 a lot. Hope this doesn't confuse the decision more. Happy Quilting! Michael
Thank you so much, Teresa! Here is the link to the panel on Spoonflower - but before you buy it, please remember to change the "Size and Quantity" to Yard. It defaults at Fat Quarter. You need size to say Yard so you get the full panel and not a quarter of it, then buy as many as you like. Thank You! Michael
