Question: You are standing in an open field and are not quite sure where you are. If you had the artillery piece at the barn, that is the orientation point. Can you then only take one direction towards the enemy from there? I mean, you can see on the map how far it is between the barn and the target. But on closer reflection, it becomes more accurate when you can see the point of Oritering, you can't aim so precisely at an enemy you can't see. Forget my question.

@@gezalesko3813 Okey, my question is if you know exactly where you are. Can you then only take out only one azmuth direction towards the target or will the precision be too poor then? Do you always have to use Orientation azmuth as well?

@@gezalesko3813 As I understand it, you don't need to worry about compensating the compass for where Santa lives, because you're only looking for angular relationship. I have never played TV or computer games. Nor can I make such illustrations in the computer as you do. Do I think you're a fifteen year old dude making these illustrations, no I don't. Admittedly, the math is relatively elementary, but the application of it is not. You must be a real artilleryman.

@@gezalesko3813 If the following scenario prevails: the target is 4km away, and your Target Azmuth is 48-05. It turns out that you are 100 meters wrong to the left. Can you then use head count to compensate for the error, or do you have to redo the whole process? I mean if I know that a MILS is one meter at a distance of one km. At 4km, a MILS is then 4 meters. I then compensate 25 MILS and get new Azmuth to 48-30. When you fired the first grenade, you said to the enemy, Hey guys, here I am! In that situation, you want to say thank you for the coffee, and leave.

Where did the 4508 as actually come into use? Did I miss you zeroing in on it and then coming back to 3000 to verify you are actually at 3000? I would have thought you’d use the OP at 4508 to anchor your az change to the target. Maybe I’m missing something.
ETA: never mind…was missing an import point. I was miss understanding entirely the OP

I suggest you to dig trough this video first. The barrel is always at 3000 dont need to "zero" it, the sight shows your counter angle relative to barrell, if it shows 3000 you see where the barrell points...
I know it is not easy you have to manage to mentally "see" at least one fixed and two rotating circles where one is upside down and numbered counterclockwise... need lots of practize

It is the Azmuth angle that points to the Barn, he uses it as an orientation point. The MILS is in the Russian 6000 system. The optics now point to the barn. He sees that the angular difference between the Barn and the Target is 627 MILS. The optical circle appears to increase the numerical values counter-clockwise. So he starts at 3000 MILS which points to the Barn. He turns the optics counterclockwise 627 MILS and ends up with a value of 3627 for the Optic Circle. Now he does not touch the optics, but turns the entire artillery piece Clockwise until he sees barn in the optics again. Now the optic is pointing at the barn and the artillery piece at that target. I have never been in contact with Artillery mathematics, but this video is the best explanation I've seen.
