got the 2nd (didn't know we were playing along until then) was wrong on #3, had seen the word before but forgot! got all of Phil's though (the last one is an answer to a quiz on the S Bahn train entertainment screens)! PS: Jimmy Fallon is NOT smart, not whatsoever!
Last word got a bit of history in it. It came from the medieval times where people believe in witchcraft so if they got the pain out of nowhere they just explained that a witch shoot ‘em with the pain. There fore it’s called Hexenschuss so the shoot of a witch
Good word! I won't spoil the test or give away the answer, but I had to look up the translation of "Schneebesen" when I was living in Germany. And I knew what "Schnee" means, but "Schneebesen" confused me!😂
You must play this game more often! It's so much fun! Ich lerne Deutsch und lerne gerne neue Wörter. I'm studying with DuoLingo now, after getting halfway through Intermediate German at university. I was getting very confused when doing sentence structures because I hadn't paid enough attention to the articles when learning vocabulary. It came back to bite me! The articles are everything. It's good to start again, go slowly, and learn the article together with every noun, as if it's all one word. Deana, you're doing so well with German! So impressive!
That's a very good advice for every german learners. Learn the nouns with the articles, as if it we're one word. As like the americans name there states always together with the capital city. If I can trust, what I've seen in TV 😉
Deana, I was right with you - wrong and right. As an American in DE, I have a few favorite words….scheibenkleister, schleimer, Streber. This was a fun video!
I was surprised that she's from the south and hasn't heard that. It might be a bit older phrase but I definitely heard people say that a lot growing up in Alabama.
As a native speaker of German I would also like to take that kind of quiz. So could you please make a video with reversed roles? (funny English words). (I'm not a native speaker of English. "bilingual" is only referring to the videos on my channel)
Ive never heard anyone using Backpfeifengesicht ever. I dont know why it is always included in videos like these '-' Damn, Phils wrong answers are so good. If I werent born here, I wouldnt have any clue as well!
'Spassvogel' also has a negative connotation. It's often used in situations in which someone thinks he's funny, but the other person doesn't think so. Then that person would call the one who thinks he or she is funny a 'Spassvogel'
So funny! Love this video and congrats on the sponsor! I got all correct, except for one. A fun German word is Eichhörnchen for squirrel - little acorn eater.
Congrats to Deana for her progress! Cause German language, difficult language! (Every co-native speaker will agree) I have a funny word for this game, but I can`t remmember if you had used it in any elder video: Nasenfahrrad.
Thanks to you guys I started 2021 out with the Lingoda Sprint, completed successfully, and put my refund back towards more classes 😄 some of these words from Phil were tricky, I couldn’t tell if it was a literal answer or more of the expression aspect! Typical Germans lol
I've got one for you guys... Susswassertang. 1.) Orange drink the Astronauts like, or 2.) A kind of plant found in Aquariums. Any idea? Good luck from Arizona.
Mmmm I'm German and I have to say never heard of drahtesel!!! That's why I'm staying in the states,so I don't have to think about how to speak in German 😅🤣😂
Moin, find euch super. Da wird einem erstmal klar wie unterschiedlich aber auch gleich die Kulturen sind. Habt ihr schon mal überlegt sowas wie Sprichwörter zu übersetzten. Sowas wie " der dümmste Bauer hat die größten Kartoffeln!" Freu mich schon auf die nächste foodtour und eure anderen Videos. Greetings from hamburg

Ich freue mich schon auf Eueren Nachwuchs, denn das wird dann sicherlich noch ein viel größere Spaß, soweit das noch möglich ist! Gibt es schon Bemühungen in dieser Richtung? - Liebe Grüße vom Rainer-JGS.de
I usually do that too! I'm trying to get into the habit of responding in German as much as I can now. 🥴 I have some new words to add to the vocab list. 😋
@@DeanaandPhil since my opa died year's ago. I refuse to speak German anymore. I think i sound stupid. When i say certain German words. My dad was German. So when we moved to America. you forgot to mention that a "Waschbär" = "washing bear" is a racoon..
what the heck is wrong with 'Drahtesel' best description for a bike🤨😕😁
"Waschbärbauch" is the opposite of a "Waschbrettbauch" ...lol;-))
😜
Some people have a sixpack, some people have an entire party keg.
Ich kenne da nur den "Waschzrommelbauch".
I have begun calling horses Fleischräder when passing them by on my Drahtesel.
Last word got a bit of history in it.
It came from the medieval times where people believe in witchcraft so if they got the pain out of nowhere they just explained that a witch shoot ‘em with the pain. There fore it’s called Hexenschuss so the shoot of a witch
Another good word for the quiz wood be "Schneebesen", because also could confuse her with the A and B option.
Good word! I won't spoil the test or give away the answer, but I had to look up the translation of "Schneebesen" when I was living in Germany. And I knew what "Schnee" means, but "Schneebesen" confused me!😂

Drahtesel reminded me of the Danish slang term for bicycle "Jernhest" (Iron Horse)
Lol I grew up in Kentucky and say naked as a J-Bird all the time 🤣

Yikes, Phil, Deana is right. You made these exceptionally difficult.
I got 3 correct but that Bcuz of the multiple choice. I know very little German. Good words to try and use, though! Do more of these,Please?! 👏🏼

What about " kitchenfriend" Küchenfreund 😅 is it a friend who only comes into the kitchen or something you need when you fry anything in a pan?
8/10! My college degree is good for something…
It feels like cheating when you do the test as a German🤔

I love the way Germans just string together adjectives to make a new word. Still, there are things that you just don't have a word for in English.
